If masks are good at preventing contagion then no need for social distancing. If they are not good then we keep social distancing and don't need the masks.

You need one with wire over the nose bridge. Prevents ait coming out the top....no steaming up. Works for me with my sunnies anyway....

I agree wearing a mask is a pain but I'm all for any measures which reduce the risk - even marginal reduction in risk may prevent a resurgance if most people abide by the rules. Otherwise it could be back to a full lockdown again in a few months time.

It would take something drastic to happen for another nationwide lockdown, the government know the economy just can't cope. So I'm affraid if the figures are rising those at risk may have to stay in for their own safety.

They will only lockdown again if the hospitals are not coping.

"Don't cough in your mask...

That's one of the problems with masks, they can lull people into a false sense of security.

I don't think masks are really useful in public, only for in situations in very enclosed spaces (like the London Underground).

At the moment politicians and advisors seem to be throwing every thing at the wall and seeing what sticks

Airborne transmission is still being evaluated. I'm assuming that a few variables will exacerbate or limit infection potential, including the types of ventilation in use and how humid the air is.

None of us want this problem around for any longer than it needs to be. Wearing a cheap mask that won't be as successful at stopping you from infecting others as medical grade kit, is a small effort and investment.

Many repeatedly emphasise that this mostly kills older, or vulnerabile people with other conditions - the majority of people may be largely healthy but could take small steps to stop themselves passing the virus on to vulnerable people.

£10 or so is a low investment to help reduce the level of this problem.

The experience of every outbreak in Asia would say otherwise. Masks are used in every day life and Asia has very low rates of transmission.

In fact, if you see someone wearing a mask in everyday non-pandemic life it means that person is feeling unwell but doesn't want to pass to others.

Look at the lack of lockdown in Asia and low death rates. All due to mask wearing.

If it was as simple as that why are so many professionals not advocating their use (including the HSE) and why are a significant number saying that they are ineffective?

Face coverings are used in Asia where somebody has a basic illness like a cold, this is not as contagious or debilitating as covid which seems to be spreading mainly through surface contact?

If the NHS struggled to get the proper masks to give them protection what's the point in everyone having to wear one that has been made/sold by tom dick and harry when you know most are going to give little or no protection at all

The face covering we need to wear is to reduce transmission not to protect ourselves from infection - different principle to the NHS workers who need PPE for their own protection.

Yeah seen the story. I don't like her and yeah strictly to the letter for about 3 minutes she broke the rules. But fuck me if you read the story it sounds like she was giving bjs to all the male guests.

There's real problems to report. She's apologised let's move on. This culture of going after people is very unedifying.

That was the one and only time I broke the mask rule at a funeral of a family member back in June or July.. no one was wearing then...not even the minister holding the service....I was totally out of my comfort zone.

The things happen a emotional events as a funeral...and we can do stupid things out or respect to the deceased it was a understandable lapse more have done far worse imho

Where did the 3 minutes come from?

You're completely right though. I think she probably stood up from where she had been sitting (without requiring a mask) and walked towards this table or even maybe she has been sitting in the chair she's leaning on as she was leaving.

It's ridiculous that this is even a story.
