The bubonic plague in china.

On Tuesday, they confirmed a case of it in beijing, they have issued a level 3 warning for the plague prevention, the second lowest in a four level system, how dangerous is that plague and it could it spread world wide?
The last time europe had it was in the middle ages, it can be prevented only if they act quickly about it. |

There is another "scary" thread on this.
1. The plague never went away. A few hundred deaths every year.
2. As it has been around for hundreds of years there is a high level of inherited immunity already.
3. It isn't viral...it is bacterial....so easily treated with antibiotics.
This is just another no news story.
Want to have a real story? Try TB. If this year is "average" for TB deaths then it has killed more than covid19 this year alone. No headlines for this.... |

See growing up in the 80s with threat of nuclear war.. I thought the end of the world would be 4 minute warning of last chance sex.. Maybe it was hiding behind a old sofa and some unhinged doors all the time lol

Most likely the press just trying to get attention. Like with Necrotizing fasciitis - the flesh eating disease - a handful of people in the same area had it back in the 90s & the press went crazy for a few weeks.
The plague won't come back, unless everyone started crapping in their own garden's again and not washing their hands. |

I remember the Rabies posters when I was at school, there was real fear it would reach the UK back then but never did. It's still the most lethal desease known if left untreated, it kills 100% and a very unpleasant death.
Pandemics can cause unwarranted hysteria, even antibiotic resistance is seeing some interesting research these days.
So yes an outbreak of something like bubonic plague might make the news now but it wouldn't have done a year ago |

Oh Okay. Let's just dismiss it as irrelevant then because 1 in 2000 people you know 'might' get COVID and less than 5% will die from it, because compared to 1 in 8 of everyone you walk past on a street will get Alzeimer's or Dementia and will definately die from it.
Curious logic.

mother nature punches us in the face every 100 yrs or so iys just there isnt anyone about who remembers the last time.i should imagine in future my 8 yr olds grandchildren and there freinds will be freaking out thinking the worlds never gona be the same.in five yrs time i doubt people will even give 2020 a second thought |

That plague bubbles along, with a low number of new cases around the world each year. We have treatments and, unless there is a significant deterioration in the infection levels, it's a minor has been today |

Anthrax,Ebola, TB, Malaria and measles .........all still around all still very dangerous..........the world is a dangerous place! |

Anthrax is a posionous substance and wouldn't spread across a country. Ebola a awful illness, but there is a vaccine and it's a well researched disease. Malaria, affects only hot or tropical climates and can be treated, it still causes a problem worldwide, but treatments and ways to eradicate it are closer to being a reality.
Measles, has seen an increase thanks to the debunked MMR jab autism theory and the antivax lobby. If everyone is vaccinated then herd immunity makes it very rare. It was near to being eradicated at one point too.
None should give you too much worry. |
