I have a question - how many people does that scenario apply to?

The answer is simple by the way - the kids will have to stay somewhere else while they go to school

If both parents are shielding then the child will be able to stay with a family member or guardian until its safe to return.

That’s a very genuine concern and one that needs to be supported not brushed aside.

People who are shielding because of very serious health issues need better advice on how to manage things like school etc

It’s important though that people don’t worry unnecessarily - the risks are getting lower and by September it’s possible that the number of positive cases will be very small and limited to specific areas. I would say wait and see what happens in the next month or so and try not to worry about it right now - it’s difficult enough as it is without worrying about something in the future.

Seems sensible.

Hasn’t the shielding guidelines changed now? Also I’m sure I saw from 1st August it will be no longer in play, so if your child doesn’t go back to school until September it won’t apply, unless you want personally carry on shielding until you feel safe to stop.

"Yes - no shielding after 1 August."

Official blanket shielding ends in august but doctors can ask/tell individuals to shield after that.

Contact your childs school first.

Some children may only be going back for 2 days a week in their own social bubble. One day a week the school gets the deep clean, ready for the next 2 day a week bubble.

You can also arrange with the school to continue home schooling if this is safer for you.

Some schools are not agreeing with the governments blanket open everything stance. Contact your school and find out what they are doing, or willing to do, for you.

I agree schools have to open but the government's plan is absolute bollocks as it stands. For younger children that stay in the same class and are taught by the same teacher thats fine, a social bubble of max 30. Older children in different classes with different teachers and children. Talking about year group social bubbles of maybe 200+. Seems a recipe for disaster.

If we legislate to the Nth degree for a very tiny percentage of the population where do we stop ?

Some people need to take responsibility for themselves and leave the rest of us alone

People shielding were advised they could return to work, the scheme is extended until the beginning of August and then paused.

If you are that concerned then why not legally remove your child from the education system and hire either a teacher or someone to help you educate your child/children at home?

Each local authority has someone that is responsible for the children being home schooled. That hasn't changed during covid and there's been no announcements to change or remove that job.

Do some research into what options are available instead?

I think one thing people have misunderstood here is that the government are NOT trying to prevent everyone from catching the virus.

They’re just trying to slow it down and protect the vulnerable. And when you look at it in that context then all the plans make sense. “Bubbles” just make it easier to track and contain outbreaks. They aren’t designed to completely stop anyone getting it. And they’ll really help to stop a “disaster” of unlimited mixing together

Shielded people around 6% of the population not a tiny percentage. If you count the people with conditions, such as asthma diabetes etc, that make covid much more deadly that puts the % upto between 30 and 40%.

How many of that 6% have children of school age? I’m willing to bet hardly any

My initial thought, if I'm honest was, great so every parent who wants to take a holiday during term time, just tells school they have to self isolate and the whole year group is sent home for 2 weeks

It'll be interesting to see how it pans out through the end of the calendar year

The idea is there is enough hospital beds available at the moment that if your kid goes to school then brings the virus home and you get ill enough to need hospital treatment then there will be a bed available for you hence why the goverment have slowly staggered the easing of the lock down its all to control beds in hospitals not stop us getting the virus.

The plan is if 2 or more children test positive in that bubble then everyone gets sent home. Are they really going to send 200 kids home at once and what about the the other year groups at the school do they keep going in?

Many people either cannot follow simple rules, or deliberately misinterpret them, so having every last permutation is just going to add complication or smartarsedness.

I'm sure that anyone with a specific set of circumstances will be given appropriate advice if they ask for it from the school or LEA.

First of all, relax. Exhale slowly. get your breathing under control.

Edit your post. Punctuate. Get rid of the shouty capitals. We all get that you seem to be more engaged than the average person in this.

Here's a top tip. Always find theright expert to ask the question of. This is not the place to find the right experts. Your school / LEA / social services is the place to find the experts. Ask them.

Our school aren't accepting children with parent(s) on the shielding list.

There are no fines until September, so I guess wait until September and see how comfortable you feel about the situation.

Legally remove your child from school and home school? That's one option which is perfectly legal.

Child stays with relatives is another. If there are relatives of course.

However shielding comes to an end in August. Not sure how or why because surely it's not over?

No its not 30 to 40 percent... Though I'd be interested to know how you arrived at that number.
