Chief medical officer said today that the virus may not be controlled til this time next year. They really need to talk to us about new relationships and our society and human life carrying on through a probable second wave... What do people think about that.. Hopefully it will be regional lockdowns instead of a blanket return Nightmare scenario?

Chris witty actually said this at yesterday's downing Street briefing, I think he's the only one being honest about ,it's a nightmare prospect of a 2nd wave and lockdown ,let's hope the therapeutic s and vaccine are available soon

Only heard it today. Its all where you draw the line isn't it. In Holland they were brave enough to talk about sex and said yes you can have a sex buddy.. But are powers that be are being so British about it. They need to talk about sex and new relationships directly I think

I like Chris Witty, I think he's been honest and upfront since the beginning. He was also asked yesterday about what he was most worried about, he said that he was worried that people wouldn't respond to the track and trace if they are contacted. He's right, I don't think people will isolate if they are contacted

" What do people think about that..

Well personally I'm not going on with the charade that covid19 is the kind of threat worthy of rearranging our lives around. The ONS has a measure that the media refuses to talk about, it's "contribution to difference in life expectancy". The elephant in the hospital is that a 14 year old dying is worse than a 40 year old dying, and a 40 year old is worse than an 80 year old dying. The ONS measure is basically looking at how many years off their life expectancy did it take. The answer for covid19, on average, is fuck all. Life expectancy is 79 for a man and 83 for a woman here. Heart disease and cancers, that's what actually takes most people out before their time. I find it bizarre how we're falling over ourselves to try and avoid covid19 whilst stubbornly refusing to make far easier changes that would reduce heart disease and cancers. Takeaways are open and gyms are closed, but they are looking out for our health - give me a fucking break.

Let's just ignore the countless collateral damage from people who recovered but were stuck on a ventilator, may have permanent lung damage, been isolated from their friends and family for up to 6 weeks whilst in hospital.

It's all so convienient of course that you ignore the fact that all these deaths and severe illnesses are from the lockdown being in place, and that you've paid zero attention to what it would be like had there been none at all.

But of course reading a book on critical thought is considered unnesesary. You've got some conspiracy blogs and 5 minutes on google to inform you of everything.

"whilst stubbornly refusing to make far easier changes that would reduce heart disease and cancers. "

Because everyone was excercising SO much before they had 3-4 months off with nothing to do BUT excercise.

It never stops astonishing me how much people with low to no information are happy to just see everything with a one sided view because they'd rather jump to a safe easy conclusion than put the work in to figure out what's going on.

What conspiracy of the BBC or the government is it going to be this week from you I wonder.

I think you maybe correct. People may not afford to take the time off or if they don’t feel the symptoms not care.

All i know is i may lose my job this week

A 2nd wave and lockdown will definitely with no doubts guarantee that.

And with UC way past capacity claim I'll have lost my home before that's dealt with.

So the concept of being jobless and homeless with my children are just the start of my stresses.

It's just your ignorance and naive belief that nobody would die if we all stay home. All you are doing is moving the deaths from a group of people who would mostly have died in 2020 anyway, to a group that wouldn't. Some people just can't accept hard choices.

Likewise, you don't get to tell me that I don't care about lives lost just because I can admit that I'd rather an 80 year old died with covid19 than a 50 year old died of cancer and yes those are your fucking choices in the real world.

Bollocks, if people stopped moving around, sneaking out, just popping in for 5 minutes, the lockdown could have been shorter, I have never said no one would die, but less would have. The pain on the economy would have been less, the NHS would be able to treat more people and people wouldn't have to be making the choice between an 80 year old and a 50 year old cause some arse wouldn't have transmitted it to the 80 year old and the 50 year old would still be able to get treatment. I'm prepared to change my lifestyle and expectations so that someone's beloved grandad doesn't die, if you don't give a shit, cause they most likely would have died in 2020 anyway, then I hope you remember those words when your 80, and someone that could have saved you just by putting up with a little inconvenience for a while, comes in and tells you, sorry, you're nearly past it anyway and there is a really good football match on this weekend, see ya."

Last reply to you because you never actually have any facts or evidence to your assertions so it's tiresome.

This time last year, 254,182 people had died. 317,280 have died this year. Even if I add every single case that they've dreamed of associating to covid19 to the 2019 figures, there are still 14,232 people more dead this year. In short, lockdown saved absolutely nobody and wrecked the economy. Congratulations.

Well done for providing a figure that proves nothing, without lockdown no one knows how many would have died except it would have been more, which pretty much every sensible health organisation globally agrees. Don't forget, no one gets their cancer operation if the surgeon got Covid and died. I've spent too much time this year trying to console dear friends who have watched colleagues who used work at a hospital become a Covid patient and ultimately get carried out in a box from the place they used to try to save lives in.

**“That's just the way the so called health experts roll....”**

But that’s exactly how health experts are ‘supposed’ to roll.

Their speciality is to give advice on health matters; the economy doesn’t have to be on the forefront of their minds.

The same way some economists will give advise about the economy without thinking about the health issues and implications.

It is up to the politicians to create the balance between health and the economy, and that’s why it is the politicians that make the final decision on these matters.

If we are going to get a second wave, surely all the looters, protesters and counter protesters would have lead to one. Infection and death rates have dropped again. We are well passed the 7 day gestation period, yet not even the slightest of spikes. Are we to assume that not one person who protested had it, and while in such proximity didn’t pass it on? We are also 5-6 weeks on from all those people pictured on beaches supposedly risking all our lives, no spike then either...

Good for you but plenty of people doing what you have done have caught it , spread it and kept cases and deaths higher than they would have been had people followed the rules. Hope you are proud of yourself.

Also, working for NHS. I presume not working directly with covid patients...In which case, pointless comment.

Whether there will be a second wave or spike; I don’t know, as I don’t have a crystal ball.

Anyway those scenarios you cited about the protesters and the beach were all outdoor events where the risk of transmission is low.

Transmission is greater indoors, so now that we will be meeting in pubs and restaurants social distancing will need to be adhered to.

Central

It seems negligent of those in. 'control' to be stepping back just as they are releasing many of the major controls that lowered the infection levels - sustained social engagements.

They haven't got great control measures in place yet, with the so-called worldbeating track and trace app due for May now declared a failure, with another not due until the winter. Apart from a brief mention of unspecified local lockdowns, of vague scope, we don't have a plan for what may happen if there are problems.

We didn't have a plan at the start, nor how we'd get out of lockdown and there's no plan other than the current multiple areas being relaxed.

Yeah I think this could be a big problem, take countries like China where the population is very regimented and follow 'orders' then even you get New Zealand who follow advice because they have respect for their government. Take Britain and a lot of the population have a 'fuck you I'm all right Jack' attitude, this is why this country is fucked. Also much of this attitude manifests itself down to the chaotic handling handing of the British government

Even though you said earlier that you didn’t get it.

One wonders whether anything you’ve said so far should be taken with any degree of seriousness.
