The alert level been reduced from level 4 to a 3. Far from over but a big step and good news on the virus front.
Hopefully no 2nd wave and will just be pockets of outbreaks like the flu in winter..

Yes, good news. I hope it means that we will see some relaxation of the social distancing rules soon, if it looks like it's getting safer out there. |

It is good news, although the sceptic in me wonders how much of the decision to lower it is influenced by science and how much is because the government needs to be able to get the economy back on track |

I should think it's a bit of both. It's a judgment call as we live in unprecedented times where there is no road map. I just think we need a bit of luck, like a really good hot spell to help keep us all out in the outdoors. |

Signed off by the heads of public health in all 4 nations of the UK. Seems to be that there has been a wait for the scientific evidence. No doubt some in government would have gone earlier otherwise. |

That's why it's good news. They waited for the science and the CMOs are in agreement. Hopefully, it'll become a habit. |

More good news just on BBC.
Birmingham NHS trusts have ZERO patients in ICU (having previously being highest in country). Their CMO also stated that the virus seems to have got weaker as far fewer patients confirmed positive are getting serious symptoms.
Suspicion is that virus could be mutating....as SARS did and becoming less dangerous.
Fingers crossed.... |

I've been saying that to a few people, it could easily just die out, I'll be keeping my fingers crossed.
One thing about this pandemic, it's taught me to appreciate my life more and that I'm actually a pretty positive person.
For all the bad that it brought, it's also shown up some of the world's kindest people. |

It's not gone, we've just gotten to the point where the measures have flattened it out. Everyone waiting for some magical all clear before 'playing' again is gonna be waiting for a while. It'll be with us for some time to come in one form or another and it's going to be up to individuals, not websites, to determine their own risk. If you're willing to suck a bunch of random cocks you're at a higher risk of disease than the average bear anyway.
The thing everyone ignores is the number of lives that will be lost by continuing with a hard lockdown. It's likely to be many more than COVID will take, so as cold as it sounds we can't keep living like this as a society indefinitely. |

Cant see it..this one has caused too much upheaval.
They may target certain areas if there is a spike but cant even see how that would work.
Fingers crossed we are coming out of a long dark tunnel.
Hopefully a vaccination isnt too far off.

The way this government works is to leak something and if there's too much backlash to the leak, they pretend it was never policy. The leak will almost certainly be reliable in this case. |

As to a positive mental attitude making lives better, that's not always the case. A false sense of security can be dangerous, so until such time as Fab outlaws free speech I'll share my thoughts as I see fit thanks. |

A lot of people on here moan and groan about the governments response but somehow or other the virus seems to be on the wane, not sure why or if it will stay that way. This is against a back drop across the rest of the world where there is a huge surge in cases and deaths, record numbers yesterday.
I think by and large we should thank our lucky stars we are born and live where we are as it looks to me as if the virus is running rife in many countries with a lot of potential to wipe out millions. If we get away with 50 to 60 thousand we will have got off fairly lightly. |

But a very substantial number of those deaths are from Covid 19
Yes good news, the situation seems to be stable but the number of infections and deaths is not reducing quickly enough for complacency. And the virus may be mutating and becoming less dangerous, that would be great, but there is little evidence given that most people are still taking precautions and the numbers are just stable. |

From Kings college London
This week's incidence figures suggest that COVID cases have continued to fall across the UK, which is great news! New daily infection rates have dropped by 26% from last week's figure and the R-value is holding stable below 1. However, extra vigilance is needed in London and the South East where these figures have dropped the least. |

Good news in Northern Ireland
The Department of Health COVID-19 dashboard has reported that today, the 20th of June, is the first day since the 10th of March with zero new COVID-19 cases.
Over the last 7 days, 25 individuals tested positive out of the 5,964 that were tested, giving a positive test rate of 0.42%. This is low in an international context. |
