No, to be fair, you want there to be consequences as a result of those who went to the beach. You dare not admit that those trips had little or no impact. |

Couple in Lancs..
I respect you and happy to debate..
I am no more an expert in transmission than the next man but I do know stats.
.WSM and BIF have both ecperienced spikes in the R rate. I only speculate that it was beach related at WSM. It could be unrelated but reports said they shut the hospital because 40,% of staff had covid. I don't know if that's true.
I don't think overcrowded beaches help. I never saw a beach when I worked in BIF.
For some moron to suggest that I want the R rate higher is moronic. I want to go to pubs and restaurants and holidays
But I challenge HMG spin |

R number is 0.8.
Which is why nob essentials are still being allowed to open on Monday.
R number of 1 would have brought that to a stop.
Ring Downing street if your gonna question it.

I'm sure your valuable information that the experts have missed cos they've only been following this for 3 months will make the decisions to keep the country on lockdown so much easier.
I'm absolutely positive the other 63 million other people would love 3 more months of this because you found regional variations! |

I wouldn't trust the gov numbers. They don't even know how many people have been tested for the last 3 weeks.
They've gone against all their own guidelines to open England up again. It's pretty risky. |

I trust the numbers in the sense that they are the only numbers we have. The regions are huge.. the South west includes the west country, up past Bristol and across to Southhamton almost. It has the highest R rate according to Govt figures not mine. Within that area there are R rate figures above 1 |

If I am right. And I am not saying I am right. As it stands, in areas of the south west have an R rate just above 1.
With more social contact this is likely to rise. I fear the citizens are guinea pigs in an experiment. Open the lockdown, see what happens and react to hotspots.. |

You mean the fictional place that doesn't really exist because its not real?
What do your stats say?
You have the figures that the government experts haven't told anyone else.
So if kings landing has an above 1 "R" number maybe you need to tell them. |

Why are some people fixated with others going to the beach ? Jealousy ?
It's a clear proven fact that the virus will dissapate rapidly when there is any significant air movement (wind)(beach) and will rapidly die when exposed to UV (sun) (beach)
If and when the infection rate increases it's most likely going to be on crowded public transport not the fkn beach
There's a lot of people that really should just lock themselves away and avoid social media, newspapers and tv and let the rest of the world use common sense and get on with their lives. |

It appears that the likely majority are concerned about the way that relaxations are believed to be being rushed in. This and other statue pontifications from on high are easy ways to distract people.
Whilst we had no detailed official route out of the full lockdown, we don't have a plan for what we are going to do should contingency measures be needed, nor what they are.
This has been a succession of missed opportunities, failing measures and the UK starting from equal positions to countries like Germany. The others only did better.
It appears reasonable to be concerned when the reproduction rate is close to exponential growth rates, as the population seems to. We have no effective tracing system and test results aren't universally fast, that would help people to isolate faster and stop further transmission.
It's about the country, artificial regions but most importantly about stopping anyone from having to be surrounded by large volumes of infection, even if just close to your home. |

Have a look at sky news online although it was yesterday and you might have to search. My analysis that the government have acknowledged the hotspots and they give a R rate range, an R rate mean or average.
If the range is up to 1.1 then it's 1.1 somewhere. By lumping this figure in with the rest of an areas figures then you will get an average of below 1 and below 1 nationally. I won't die in a ditch over it but that's my analysis.
The devil is in the detail.
I won't flog this one to death ..
Have a great weekend.

Does it matter ?
The infections are falling
The hospital admissions are falling
The deaths are falling
Some parts of the country are at different stages
London was hit first and hardest so will be lower per 100000 population than other areas
There will be outbreaks in clusters hence the traceing of contacts
Ideally lockdown should be eased at different stages across the country but there are too many stupid people for that to work.
I don't think R is particularly relevant anymore unless we start to see an increase of hospital admissions again which is hopefully not going to happen.
I'm more concerned about the "we will be ok" attitude of brexit as there doesn't seem to be any sort of coherent plan whatsoever.
The prime minister can hardly string a sentance together during briefings which worrying.
The whole government seems to be answerable to Dominic Cummings and while I don't know enough about him to critisise him it's rather worrying that from what I see the people we elected don't seem to have a say in the running of the country.
Maybe I'm wrong ?

Good points... Don't know much about Cummings. He seems to be the puppetmaster but is he to Boris what Alistair was to Tony. I don't know.
I am a brexiteer and not worried. I love Europe, it's cities, it's people, it's languages and it's trade. I actually liked most parts of the ECHR. I welcome European people to work and live here. I also detested the European project as they called it. I didn't like the Boris bus but I detested Project Fear even more. I worry constantly but I am not worrying about a future out of the EU. |

The gov are lyin about the R rate, there is a reason they won't give the community R rate, and that's because its virtually non existent, and they will lose control of the people, its now all in hospitals and care homes, funny how all tables been going down since peak, yet They say R is just below 1 and hasn't changed, you don't need to be a statistition to see through the BS |

There is a slide on BBC news. If 1000 people have covid and the R rate is 1.1 then after 60 days 25000 people will be infected. (Not deaths)
R rate is very important.. keep it well below 1 and the numbers significantly drop |

Not sure I trust R rates at the moment especially the good ones. It all could be a plan so as to lift lockdown to give people and business a break.
The virus has had it's 153 day herd immunity probation.
Now it's free to take it's course.
Go out and enjoy if you feel lucky.

"I find it hard to believe that anyone could contract this virus on a beach. "
If you wash you do not touch your face too much when touching surfaces that others have (including rocks and stones and tables) and toilet paper and door handles, if nobody coughs and sneezes on you.
Then sure. Impossible to catch.
In reality, the issue is more the part of the day when you are not actually on the beach.
It's not that you shouldn't do it. It's just that you should be aware of changing your behaviour. It's really about washing your hands far more frequently and wearing a mask in enclosed spaces. |

"How do they calculate the rate anyway, don't they need to know who has had it but is also asymptomatic which they don't without mass testing which has not taken place? "
The UK and other countries which didn't test suspected infections that people had - especially during the earlier days/weeks of this virus, have had to rely on estimations of infection levels and the R value. The high proportion of asymptomatic infections added a tougher element to the job, whilst we had limited experience. It's easier now and should be more accurate, having higher levels of testing and proportions of those who test out of the total number who are infected, as well as having higher accuracy now for predictions of untested but infected people.
Younger people tend to have particularly high levels of asymptomatic infections and lower levels of severe complications, which helps to keep them off the radar.
The R value is important, as it lets us see if there's a growing problem. The actual number of infected people is critical for managing it, as things are so much easier with just 2 people infected (New Zealand last week) compared with a country like Brazil, where there's much higher numbers of people infected ir The USA, which is similar but many states seeing growth again.
We can each individually carry on doing our part to contain the problem, as our country relaxes more control measures. I'm uncertain that we could have local lockdowns, once much of our lifestyle is reopened. |

The track and trace app was to monitor those people who were very close for longer than 15 minutes but ignore shorter durations of proximity. Our time close to others is restricted in most earlier public de-restricted activities, such as longer travelling distances, exercise outdoors etc but bars and restaurants are going to bring us back together with others, including strangers, for significantly longer durations.
Perhaps musical chairs and tables switch arounds could be done, varying who you are near to
We've reduced the risk levels, now our infection numbers are lower, hence the changes underway. With good common sense used by us all, even those out drinking , we can get our lives back towards the levels of freedom that people want. |

From what I remember, Tom was pretty much right in what he said back at the very beginning
He was, people laughed and scorned at everything he said, there was even people who said they worked in the NHS and that we all had nothing to worry about as their bosses had told them it wasn't going to be a problem but Tom didn't waver
Turned out he was correct
Nobody did anything like that and not sure why he’s correct?

testify!"
Really uncomfortable to read, people were so rude and cruel with the things they said, it was like a herd aiming abuse at one person |
