Social distancing in a stairwell

Staircase of five floors, too cramped to pass with required amount of space unless at each floor level landing. To get to each landing there’s a series of five steps then small flat floor then another five steps, the small space does not allow adequate passing at social distance either. Staircase winds up and up so unclear who is also on stairs till you meet at a specific section. No other up or down routes.
What tips, signage, ideas, strategies can be used to make it a safe stairwell at the workspace for use by employees? |

Are corridors any wider, passing through double doors, entering into an office while some other is coming out, coffee points... the list goes on.
Common sense is what is needed, we will return to normal ways soon. Just use sanitizer and be respectful around others. |

It's harder than you think to not gain on the person in front not doing the speed you want"
Can’t you slow down if they are walking up at a slower speed maybe they have a bad knee or are short of breath
You make it sound like it’s all about you
And not a care for the person struggling on the staircase not a good luck lady  |

Whilst it's not ideal anywhere, perhaps a note for people to pause on the flat level. Those ascending could pause on different floors to those descending. This could allow the slower people to get needed rest and for the faster to overtake.
Obviously every time people pass it increases risk but if they follow other good principles here, such as facing away, not touching etc, it could minimise it.
I'd have signs reminding of the guidelines all the way.
Potentially limit any transportation of things to specific times of the day.
It's also important to factor in the needs of those less able, so that they are not unduly affected adversely. |

Big horns honked (twice) every time you want to pass someone...
Anti virus red noses, buckets filled with confetti created from shredding all the government guidelines on social distancing and for commuter a funny yellow car with square wheels ( but it must be ulez compliant) or be fully electric.
I have solutions for most of the worlds problems just ask or send me a pm and I will solve it for you. Hope these help. |

Don’t see how a single staircase in a 5 story commercial building would meet build regs In the first place. Calling up or down to see who is on the stairs may be the only solution.

some sort of traffic light system at top and bottom of each flight, green for safe / red do not enter. two way switch lights, or continuous sounding alarm when some one is on stairs. Issue whistles or personal alarm to each person that they must sound when in stairwell to warn others. Proximity sensors. Depends what budget you have.
If there is more than one stairway use one for ascending and other for decending. Hope this might help

Convex / concave mirrors to see around corners changes direction in stair case

The hospital here doesn't have anything in place for the stairs. I think it's a case of don't touch and keep to one side.
As yours is just a set of 5 steps between each floor, I'll presume it's easy to see whether anyone is coming up or down so it'd just be considerate for people to wait on the floor they're on until the others have passed? |

Sadly it’s five steps to a mini break then five more to the landing and all around corners, the issue is you can’t see at all as two corners to see round to each landing. |

One of my places of work is opening the back stairs..the fire escape stairs, to make a oobe way system.
But it's worth remembering that 2m social distancing is only one way of limiting contact. It's unlikely, unless some one infected coughs as you walk past, or touches you, or you touch the banister and forget to wash your hands, that you are going to contract a virus. I feel its time we got a grip and calculate what the actual risks are here.

Sorry .. 'get a grip' isn't what I mean. That was a bit insensitive. But calculated, informed choices and risks, good hygeine and a realistic approach. There's alot of fear and blanket advice which is making things like passing on staircases feel desperately unsafe. Im not so sure that it is.

Can mirrors be put up in the corners?
Otherwise, is it possible to call up/down?
Or would a one-way system work? |
