I think so and I find it interesting that there seems to be a direct link of those that are in the risk zone having deficiencies with mostly vitamin d, underlying problems and as well with diabetes which makes up 20 to 50% of the cases, it has nothing to do with age. |

your clutching at straws with such sweeping comments. The covid 19 virus has baffled doctors as it has manifested itself in many different ways, from the typical pneumonia, the "sticky blood" to organ failure..add to that the fact most show none or very little symptoms and shrug it off with apparently no lingering effects.. |

You do realise vitamin D deficiencies, underlying health problems and diabetes all increase with age right? |

I think given the ages that have died it clearly is ti do with age even if that is just because the elderly are more likely to have comorbidities |

Apparently most of the people that have sady died would have died from underlying health conditions anyway
There is a good interview with Lord Sumption go take a look |

Probably not
Having underlying conditions doesn't mean people are terminally ill. They can live with conditions for many many years and it still may not kill them
Underlying issues are also not just for an older person. |

I agree. It's as if the ill and elderly are expendable and it doesn’t matter if their lives are cut short by years. |

Over 40% of population of first world nations measured in recent studies, with levels higher in disadvantaged and ethnic communities despite food supplementation. The levels are also particularly low I Sandinavian countries because of levels of sunlight across the year.
Therefore as a potential precursor to covid it seems too non-specific |

Maybe it has been a virus devolved and paid for by insurance company’s who provide medical insurance as a friend of mine in the USA says they have now stopped insuring people over 70 many have never claimed anything and just paid there premiums every year now those policy’s have been told are no longer valid food for thought maybe |

We're still researching and learning. It's caused by a virus, with a range of risk factors that increase individuals' potential for increased symptom severity and risks of death.
If it's pigeon-holed too much, it can be perceived to be not a problem for them, which can have fatal consequences. Better assumed as a possible problem that we may all suffer from as well as pass on to others. This is particularly important due to the high volumes of people who are asymptomatic.
Ee also don't know if there are any longer-term consequences from having been infected. Certainly many will live with the health impacts for a very long time, potentially the rest of their lives. |

I'm a young ish woman with no underlying health conditions and I had it in March (well 111 were pretty certain it was!) Even though it was only mild I'm still finding that I get breathless very easily, I'm tired a lot and I have very low energy and its 3 months on. I can imagine anyone who had a severe case of it is going to be suffering even worse |

Having a long term health condition isn't necessarily a death sentence. Many live for years with these conditions, which are controlled. However this virus kills, often within days. Not being dramatic just reflecting what I am seeing day in, day out. |

At the time when coronavirus struck here (middle of an awful spring) I would bet that most people in the U.K. regardless of age would have a vitamin D deficiency.
I was luckily already taking supplements for it (pregnant) but winter and the aftermath of winter causes vitamin D deficiency to go up because of the lack of sunshine. |

I lot of people will pillory me for saying this but it does perhaps need saying.
So population just grows on and on until there is no wild life left, Hey but man has survived, Rhino's haven't but who cares about them eh. the planet is clogged with plastic, the climate is wrecked. All the worlds resources are exploited, there's nowhere left nice to visit because it's been stripped bare by pollution.
I'm sure those elderly folk would agree that generally they've had a good life. This could be a long overdue natural break on longevity. We are living too long and there's far too many of us. Maybe the virus is doing us a little favour and is a wake up call. Just a thought to chuck into the melting pot of thought. |

I know a guy with diabetes type 1 survived covid. But it maybe due to the great care he got and the viral load. We were obviously in lockdown when he contracted it. He had minimal contact with small number of staff. Doesn't even go out for exercise and still contracted it. Was ill for 5 days with fever and his bg all over the place. |

I read an article how pollution is another factor for spreading covid as it lingers in the air longer in polluted areas. |

Anyone can HAVE it but those over 70 and particularly over 80 are MASSIVELY more likely to die. The biggest underlying factor IS age, though of course that will include more underlying factors too. |
