"Does a Prime minister have to explain/apologise that a staged exit from lockdown is going to more complicated than..... Stay at Home. "
Of course it's more complicated.
Stay at home is self explanatory
Not staying at home isn't, so you have to stay alert when you're outside.
I'm not a genius but I kind of get that after Mr Johnson kindly explained it for me |

"How have other countries worded their messages for easing lockdown?
Media shows people going out in droves, no different to some places here."
New Zealand layed out the stages of lockdown from the start. Each stage had the rules and guidelines clearly stated.
The daily briefings were clear, concise and direct. The population knew the plan from the beginning, including what would need to happen for the stages of lockdown to come through from four to zero.
People payed attention there too. |

Whoever’s idea it was the pre brief the press 5 days before the announcements should be sacked because it gave the media days to put out their stories before the government then tried to pour cold water on them!
It needed to be simple blunt messaging.. that’s where I think sturgeon in Scotland has gotten it right and Johnson in Westminster has got it wrong!
Remember on Sunday we had the announcement, Monday they put out more details, and on Tuesday we were still to work it all out... that’s not good media messaging! |

The 2 people bit is bloody ridiculous. You meet mum outside 2m apart. Somehow you give her the virus. She goes home and gives it to dad. So why not meet them both at the same time still the 2m apart. I do understand it's still about minimising risk. But come on in this scenario it could be pot luck. "Only here does someone like him think that Stay Alert is fully adequate for this period. People have of course been fully alert since this whole mess started. "
I agree. Had Boris stayed alert, he wouldn’t have taken two weeks leave in February, wouldn’t have missed five COBRA meetings, not shaken hands in a hospital and would have observed social distancing possibly avoiding contracting COVID-19 along with Whitty, Hancock, Sedwill and Cummings. |

It really isn't rocket science, meeting others outside your household, needs to be one on one, at 2metres, in public place.
What is in the least bit confusing about that? |

This is why people are confused. This is the government's week so far:
1 Accidentally made it illegal to drive to Wales
2 Made it easier to see other people's parents than your own
3 Issued new advice that was officially ignored by Scotland, Wales, NI, and the councils of Manchester, Liverpool and Newcastle.
4 Admitted there WOULD be a border down the Irish Sea, after a year claiming there wouldn't
5 Said its ok for a child-minder to come into contact with your kids, as long as you "open a window"
6 Published advice that you can car-share, as long as the driver "doesn't look left"
7 Announced £2bn investment, so we could use public transport again
8 Told us it's our "civic duty" to avoid using public transport
9 Announced the PM would make a speech on Sunday, cos it had to be implemented Monday
10 Then, when challenged, said they meant Wednesday
11 Then said we must go to work
12 Then said we must not travel to work
13 Then said it was all explained in the published guidelines
14 Then had it pointed out to them in parliament that they hadn't published guidelines
15 Blamed the public for not understanding the new rules
16 Then went on TV to explain the rules, got them wrong, and had to be corrected by Piers Morgan
17 Then went to parliament to explain the rules, STILL got them wrong, and had to be corrected by the opposition
18 Said we should wear facemasks
19 Then said we shouldn't wear facemasks
20 Then said - again - we should wear facemasks
21 Clapped for NHS workers
22 Then introduced a 55% increase in the fee foreign staff pay to work for the NHS
23 Announced quarantine for new arrivals, a mere 73 days after being officially advised to quarantine new arrivals
24 Announced they had "only just started" recruiting people to do track and trace, a mere 110 days after being officially advised to urgently do track and trace
25 Issued a plan to open schools, which teachers said was unsafe
26 Then said doctors were brave, but teachers weren't
27 Then had to watch as doctors said the teachers were right, and it wasn't safe to open schools
28 Then announced tests for kids but not for teachers
29 Then had to have it explained on live TV that infected teachers can still infect kids
30 Scored 0% in a French poll of which govt was doing best for its people
31 Dropped 45 net approval points in UK opinion polling
And there are still 12 hours of this week to go |

The election resulted in a Conservative landslide majority of 80 seats, the party's largest since 1987. It made a net gain of 48 seats and won 43.6% of the vote — the highest percentage by any party since 1979.
The people seemed pretty certain he was the right choice.
Unfortunately the 56.4% that didn't vote for him don't count.

There was actually a story on Politico on Friday that said initially ALERT was supposed to be an acronym. The botched leaking of the message last weekend led to it being dropped, but it may be revived at a later date.
As with many of these things it comes from and "unnamed official working on the strategy". |

Talking straight doesn't hurt anyone.
For me I took it as we still need to be aware when going to work/ shops etc but I don't think it is the greatest of slogans to get their point across. They couldn't keep the stay at home one as they were telling people to go back to work.
I think people do need straight and concise directions in all this so that we all know what we should be doing...his do this this but don't do it wasn't exactly concise. |

It's a bloody mess, it's saying to people go back into the minefield whilst we are deciding a safe path or even whether you need a path..
Just use common sense, do your duty and it'll be OK..
Maybe as the MPs are not travelling to Westminster so much they can volunteer to do a day in their local primary schools for starters.. |

If the ALERT acronym story is true that would make sense for a government built on slogans, and the right, memorable acronym would be a good idea.
Stuffing up the launch is about right though, and this lot don't try to correct mistakes. They just double down and pretend it didn't happen. |

"The new government poster says

I must have no common sense because I don't really understand the "two people" bit.
If you choose to meet dad and he doesn't get it (mum's safe) but choose to meet mum and they both end up with it.
"
the way in understand is they had to stop the floodgates somewhere
your argument while making total sense also applies to a household where 3 people live, so now you can meet your mum and dad but not your sister at the same time, but they could just take it back and infect your sister easily anyway
so lets allows households of 3
now thats your mum and dad and sister but not your brother, same logic again and so on so forth
each time the number in a house hold is increased by 1 its actually increased by 2,( one each side) and what if i want to meet both my sisters at the same time who actually live in their own households with their own husbands , its only 2 people, but now if its 2 people they can bring along 2 from their household and their kids etc etc it starts to become exponential
they didnt tell you to choose parents, they just said meet them individually because the line had to be drawn somewhere and the simplest least complicated place was at 1
i do think there was a gap for single parents though that cannot meet anyone because they cant leave the kids at home, some easing for those groups would be helpful

"The new government poster says
Two People
Follow the Rules
Two metres
Keep the R down
I must have no common sense because I don't really understand the "two people" bit.
If you choose to meet dad and he doesn't get it (mum's safe) but choose to meet mum and they both end up with it.
the way in understand is they had to stop the floodgates somewhere
your argument while making total sense also applies to a household where 3 people live, so now you can meet your mum and dad but not your sister at the same time, but they could just take it back and infect your sister easily anyway
so lets allows households of 3
now thats your mum and dad and sister but not your brother, same logic again and so on so forth
each time the number in a house hold is increased by 1 its actually increased by 2,( one each side) and what if i want to meet both my sisters at the same time who actually live in their own households with their own husbands , its only 2 people, but now if its 2 people they can bring along 2 from their household and their kids etc etc it starts to become exponential
they didnt tell you to choose parents, they just said meet them individually because the line had to be drawn somewhere and the simplest least complicated place was at 1
i do think there was a gap for single parents though that cannot meet anyone because they cant leave the kids at home, some easing for those groups would be helpful
"
I agree, they had to draw a line somewhere. No matter what they said, as per your example, people would be annoyed. |

Well said , I just couldn't be bothered to write all that.
Hopefully it will help some of the easily confused.

"Use common sense...think for yourselves...don’t be a bellend
That is what teachers are doing but the government is telling them to ignore common sense and go back into the classroom. "
You mean like they are managing to do in Denmark, without the hand wringing nay sayers of the unions and some of the great British public. Hahaha.
Yes there is a 1.5 percent chance of death, so if you are obese, elderly or health condition vulnerable then don't go, stay home go sick pay.
Overwise crack on and do your bit for the children's futures that we know you care so much about.
