"The infection rate in the UK has increased and is close to the point where coronavirus cases could increase, government scientific advice says.
The so-called "R-number" needs to be kept below one in order to stay in control of cases.
But the revised figures from the SAGE group of scientific advisors say the R-number now sits between 0.7 and 1.0.
And they do not factor in the changes to lockdown announced by the prime minister on Sunday." |

I've just watched the daily update, and that is over all settings and am estimate. The woman said that it is probably lower in the community, it's pushed up due to the high infection rate in closed environments such as care homes and hospitals. I dont the R has gone up, I think they just have a more accurate estimate due to tests being done, and infections in care homes being carried out and monitored better |

The government are peddling backwards to keep their heads above water.
Boris said further measures would be imposed if R went to 1.0 multiple reports today say it’s at 1.0 so why have those measures not been imposed?.
Living by the coast and the weather being good over the weekend it’s a massive worry. |

Current gov announcement puts it at between 0.7 and 1 so no it’s not definitely at 1 or above |

They said the rates are a week or two behind actual r rates...I think it will be a lot higher then the 1% in a fair few regions...london has gone down but the north is still high. |

Don't know so how does the government it an estimated, need to test the whole population every day to know the real facts. |

Watching this on BBC right now.
Contradiction like you've never seen going on.
R number is between 0.7-1. Measures are being reconsidered but the death rate is dropping even though infections have gone up except that doesn't mean the R number has increased unless your in care homes then it has except there are no new cases in care homes so the R number increase isn't at 1 yet!!!!
Who the fuck understood that?????? |

What would be helpful is if they put the data up by regions/towns ect. This would pinpoint the areas and maybe people will be more cautious in the hot areas. |

My head hurts just trying to keep up with it now, all i know is people are still dying from it, infection rate is still too high, people's jobs and livelihoods are now beginning to be lost and the great british government stand behind yellow signs every evening at 5pm and talk about nothing that makes sense. |

It's all guess work as this is a brand spanking new virus! Mistakes will be made whoever runs the country, different regions are way behind London and other big cities so there has to be an element of estimating numbers I personally think we will have to o be aware of social distance for a good while yet and can see a free for all in England this weekend if the sun is out! |

Its perfectly practicable to travel across the UK beaches and snowdonia and maintain a social distance that will hardly affect infection rate
It is not possible to permit public transport trains buses or tube must be stopped
Outside infection is tiny beer compared to shared office space and confined public transport

"Let’s give it a week or so and see how it goes. It doesn’t make sense to me though. If it’s 0.7 then you have some wriggle room but if it’s 1 then we are all stuffed again. " Remember they use 5 different ways of working it out, and get 5 different numbers. So it's only an estimated or made up number.

Not necessarily stuffed. I'm sure I read that Germany's R rate had gone above 1 after lockdown was lifted/ relaxed, but then it came down again. |
