Has the virus turned the nation into a "I cant do this" country?

Everyone whinging about what they cant do, needing exact guidance in how to do things, refusing to do things until they are told exactly how to do things.

How do you catch the virus?

Through close physical contact with others. By touching your face with unclean hands after touching an infected surface.

Do risk assessments, eliminate the risks as far as possible and get back to doing things.

Keep 2m apart where possible.

Dont sit face to face in offices.

Put physical barriers between you and others (face coverings are just one kind of physical barrier).

Weve complained about the Nanny state for long enough, get a grip and get the country moving again.

Rant over, happy Friday

Might of helped if we hadn't had such a high death rate and a fucking shambles of a response.

We agree with you on a whole. When you look at death figures out of the total population, the percentage of deaths is extremely low.

The country needs to get back to normality.

The lockdown was done to prevent the NHS being overwhelmed. Hospitals are now sat empty.

Everything in life carries risk. It's time people used their own common sense, and took responsibility for themselves a little.

Applying this to teachers, who are all saying "why aren't the government advising us to wear face coverings when we go back?"

Why not just wear them?

The government dont advise you to put your shoes on, but you do.

Because of the massive amount of negativity? 0.27% of the population according to ONS (not the government the ONS) have covid 19. Dont need to be a maths teacher to figure out that means 99.73% dont have it.

Is it OK that I'm currently working in education in my living room, but wearing sandals?

I'd actually love to go back to work work (rather than living my life through a laptop screen), but FE colleges are not slated to re open any time soon. I'd personally go back tomorrow (well, Monday now) if it was allowed, if it was open etc.

My sister is a nurse and a single mum of two. She's mortgage free and has two other houses she rents out. She was able to resign as she didn't have to worry about money as she wasn't prepared to sacrifice herself, leaving her children alone because her employer wasn't able to supply her with protective gear to do the job.

to be honest i dont read articles now i read the comments ... there are teachers out there that dont want to to back and parents that dont want to send their kids... but to be honest for the most part when i read these comments it was a “why should we go to school if we cant see our family” rather than anyone actually saying the measures that might go into place were not enough

one even compared cinemas still being closed to schools potentially opening... people dont seem to be able to compartmentalise sections of life off as more important than the other ao go down the path of well if i cant do everything i want to do why should i be doing anything at all

Here here ..... I’m sick of nothing but negativity coming from the media, with very little in the way of positive or uplifting stories - which is what we (sometimes) need to hear.

I have been party to the truth behind a couple of the COViD-19 stories that have made the headlines, and whilst there is a degree of truth to some of it, the media undoubtedly twist and spin what they know will make a better story ... so stand by the adage .. never let the truth get in the way of a good story!

Makes me believe even less the stories I don’t know about, given the same twist will be applied to them!

Our students have to do things. It's compulsory! My staff are live teaching between 9am and 1pm (plus the odd later session for Latin America) - we are teaching across time zones from -6 to +9. After teaching or around it, staff are answering emails, planning lessons, marking, recording lectures, attending meetings and all the other guff that goes with teaching. They are working more than full time in most cases.

Some primary schools simply don't have the staff available to have all the children return, with social distancing. Given how social distancing means they'll need additional staff for splitting the classes into smaller groups.

I'm planning on my youngest returning in September, this is after the primary school sent, and posted online, a letter, explaining the situation.

(He isn't in key stage 1 or year 6)

We are doing home learning

It looks like collage will go back at some point next month as well, although my daughter is in the high priority groups, so she will return when they do

i think they might be talking garbage

in time of recession the interest rate goes down to encourage spending and stimulate the economy, a rise in the rate would encourage people with cash to save rather than invest and cause the people without money to default on their mortgages because the payments get too high... it would slow economic recovery hugely and wouldn't bring in anything extra for the government so would be pointless method to recoup what they are shelling out just now

we were only just starting to see rates rise after the last recession before all this started

On the negative point yes there are and were before but I think it's very important to not fall into the trap of stiff upper lip, over the top attitude and all will be well because frankly that's a con truck oft used by people in power to persuade the masses to take the hit..

"Applying this to teachers, who are all saying "why aren't the government advising us to wear face coverings when we go back?"

Why not just wear them?

The government dont advise you to put your shoes on, but you do.

But the government didn't give me step by step instructions how to put my shoes on. Which shoes? Can I wear my shoes in the bath? Do the shoes have to match? "

These are very childish comments.

It's not about government 'advice', it's about the responsibility employers have to give safety guidelines and provide the relevant equipment to their employees.

"Has the virus turned the nation into a "I cant do this" country?

So all the new infections since the lockdown I suppose they are the governments fault as well, not the fact that people are not listening and doing as they wish?

The first weekend people have a little freedom, let's wait for the rush to the coast, not the governments fault, its peoples stupidity.

People need to take responsibility for their own safety. Keep away from others and was their hands before picking their nose.

Think you should wear a face covering? Well chuffing wear one, dont wait to be told to wear one.

So you are cheerfully arguing for the removal of all laws. People need to be responsible for their own safety, after all!

This is why boris changed his mind and ordered lockdown, after initially trusting us with our health like sweden, they rapidly realised we are not responsible and need telling what to do

You’re wildly overestimating Johnson’s or his government’s thought processes here. The delayed lockdown was driven solely by economic concerns. The idea they had any thoughts concerning the health model and trust is fanciful at best.

Or is this a case of one rule for one...

No I'm not demanding all laws or restrictions as they actually are, police have no power to enforce the social distancing in public apparently.

Some teachers just don't want to go back, with or without face coverings

Nor did some nhs staff, or care home workers what choice were they given, none.

Because they knew they had a job to do. NHS parent the only people working through all this, supermarkets for instance, I feel much more of a risk than other places."

A government has responsibility for the economics of a country as well.

They have a duty to let their citizens back in to the country.

If we did an India style lockdown from day one how many people would have stuck to it? How many would be on the news complaining about it?

We could have done loads differently at the start of this and for years before it, but various governments (of all sides) didn't and so we are where we are.

Personally I'm in a branch of work where I have to visit (and work) everywhere from building sites, to care and nursing homes, food production plants, social housing, super markets, and schools.

I've worked at home when I can, been to the office when I had to, and been on various sites when needed.

Not once have I been on TV complaining I might have to work. I've gone to work, taken all precauctions I could. But still felt worried I would catch it somehow.

And next week I will be doing more of the same because we need to keep the country working to actually have a country worth fully reopening.

That is all you need. Out of respect for personal responsibility, I’m sure you appreciate having to work something out for yourself, rather than simply being told the answer!

Yes I have read my post thank you.

And I think you dont understand it. But we live in a country where we are both free to think our own things.

My original point was around negativity.

The government haven't said "you must wear a mask" or "you mustn't wear a mask"

People are complaining that they haven't been told to wear one.

Instead of complaining why not just take personal responsibility and wear one?

I'm pretty certain I've been consistent with my thoughts all the way through.

But I am open to discussion and having my mind and opinion changed, a sign of intelligence I've always thought

Considering that countries on the whole have only been testing hospital cases or those with serious symptoms, its known that 80% plus don't show symptoms or only minor symptoms so won't of been tested. There have been over 4 million positive tests worldwide..doesn't that show that in reality a min of 20 million plus have been infected..we believe the exposure and infection with recovery is far higher than many realise. The virus has been around in Europe and probably the UK for almost 5 months...many serious cases early wouldn't of been tested or shown in many countries especially December and January with this in mind we hope we are over the worst..a positive thought...

"Not a hating teachers thread just that they are the sector at the minute in the public limelight.

Many people have been going in to work all the time.

Our company did risk assessments and put control measures in place, way before any government guidelines, so we could ensure as far as practicably possible we all remained safe.

And lo and behold the government guidelines for our sector look identical to ours.

If only everyone took responsibility for their own safety.

Oh wait. Like the Health and Safety at Work Act says you should do.

How many 4 or 5 year olds do you have running round your work place, not listening to advice and snotting and sneezing all over the place.

Controls for adults are easy, for young children not so much"

And therein lies another problem, teachers are unable to control their pupils ?
