Well we've just looked out of our window at the VE street party. Everyone mixing together. What we can't believe is there are a couple of people who work in care homes mixing and keeping no social distance. So why do we have a break out of the virus in care homes?? Others in our street have not stayed in over the last few weeks either, perfect breeding ground we believe. We are safe behind our door

We're all fed up of the lock down. But some people out socialising and partying will make it last longer for everyone.

I saw a few parties going on in gardens etc with lots of people.

we have a break out in care homes because the government moved people with coronavirus from hospital to care homes

Very very true in our case.

Everyone seems to be being sensible round my neck of the woods , tho if I was witnessing street parties with no regard to social distancing I'd be on the phone to the police to have a drive round

Reading

We are going to have one today. Markers set out for distancing and they are more that 2 metres. We are all pretty savvy here. Mostly staying on our drive way near the front door and have requested that no one enter our boundary

Have fun and stay safe all

"The mixed messaging has been terrible!"

I think the press have to take a large share of the blame for that

Boris: we might start to consider some loosening of restrictions from as early as monday

Media: magic monday freedom from lockdown

To be fair he said (I watched PMQs) that he would discuss/reveal future plans on Sunday...Starmer been asking for this for weeks. Said very limited easing could start on Monday.

Wales and Scotland already said more than one exercise is ok and looking at opening garden centres but other than that keep social distancing and stay in other than that already "allowed".

Most of the mixed messages have come from usual press coverage and interpretation by "fabexperts".

True, to an extent. Remember, the twat went round shaking hands with Covid patients and told people not to go to the pub, but left them open.

I await the Boris Brigade to jump on me again and explain why how he is doing such an amazing job

I am not claiming anyone is amazing but honestly i think a greater portion of the population are swayed by the media than they are by the prime minister , and since the second lockdown started, the media have been obsessed with how and when it will end, they have been stoking the exact opposite message of stay home and the government have no control over and cannot take the blame for that

Sorry to disagree but the statement is not true to an extent its totally true.

The shaking hands thing was stupid I agree but has nothing to do with this thread

As ever the press try to seek out a story so take the quote and twist it. Then they will be the same people reporting on people not following the rules

We have a family member in a home nd he went to hospital for some tests back in March. He came back to the home and they put him in isolation which we said great, that's exactly what they should do and expected him to be in his room for 7 days. 2 days later they let him back in the social areas. Good job he didn't end up showing symptoms. The home got that wrong but fortunately got away with it. The homes stupidity not the government confusing the guidelines for them.

This..

It hasn't been clear at all. Look at the confusion over construction sites for example. Work from home unless you can't. Well there has been next to no social distancing in many workplaces where people can't work from home. It's been a shambles.

The home she works in is a nursing home and got it horribly wrong 21 deaths not all confirmed as covid19

80 % of staff have been tested positive over the period of 4 weeks.

Including the Mrs who then passed it onto me.

It really was money before the residents and carers health.

In fairness the mixed messages and hype from the media about the easing of lockdown has influenced people's behaviour.

You're free to disagree of course.

Yawn heres another .

Just waiting on the rest.

Sorry,we should all just think he is amazing. You carry on with blind adulation. I prefer to look at the evidence.

I have no political allegiance.

Where I praised anyone in the government.

I voted labour all my life up until the war criminal.

Then voted Tory.

Then just stopped when I realised they were all the same.

Politics bores me to death these days.

You on the other hand have a hatred for anything Tory.

It's not healthy to hate on something you cant do anything about.

You choose the wrong horse in a 2 horse race.

Its not the end of the world.

Relax and breath .

Why do you post so much on political threads if it bores you so much?

I'm not interested in people who want to bone eachother without condoms. So I don't post on the bareback sex threads. Actually, I don't even read them.

That's the point they are not political threads until the haters turn up lol.

Thanks for that."

Don't have to comment if you don't like it. Nobody making you.

"The mixed messaging has been terrible!

I think the press have to take a large share of the blame for that

Boris: we might start to consider some loosening of restrictions from as early as monday

Media: magic monday freedom from lockdown

True, to an extent. Remember, the twat went round shaking hands with Covid patients and told people not to go to the pub, but left them open.

I await the Boris Brigade to jump on me again and explain why how he is doing such an amazing job

People believe that politics and the media impact everyday life. Such as this issue of people ignoring the social distancing guidelines to have a VE street party.

Should people be censored if they have these opinions?

I am not claiming anyone is amazing but honestly i think a greater portion of the population are swayed by the media than they are by the prime minister , and since the second lockdown started, the media have been obsessed with how and when it will end, they have been stoking the exact opposite message of stay home and the government have no control over and cannot take the blame for that

Not all the media, the usual suspects..

True but with most people not leaving the house to buy newspapers , the usual suspects are the ones more visible online and reaching a higher audience

Type anything about corona into google and its all the garbage tabloids that come up as the first search results, its the garbage tabloids that must be paying for advertising on social media to pop up in my newsfeed when i dont even read them let alone follow them

Carol Cadwalladr....good journalism and very apt with regards to what you just mentioned"

That's so unfair to Boris. Yes it's true we have the highest death rate in Europe but everyone makes mistakes. Imagine if a few thousand people died needlessly because you didn't do your job properly and ignored the advice of experts. I'm sure everyone would be patting you on the back and congratulating you for a job well done.

Speaking of jobs. Doesn't the Health and Safety at Work act of 1974 specificly prohibit endangering yourself and others by ignoring safety rules and not using correct PPE? Is this not against the law?

"Well we've just looked out of our window at the VE street party. Everyone mixing together. What we can't believe is there are a couple of people who work in care homes mixing and keeping no social distance. So why do we have a break out of the virus in care homes?? Others in our street have not stayed in over the last few weeks either, perfect breeding ground we believe. We are safe behind our doorwe have a break out in care homes because the government moved people with coronavirus from hospital to care homes

no the government actually released people with coronavirus back into care homes if you chose not to believe it that's just fine

This thread is about parties and how they contravene lockdown rules.

My comment is how a population is expected to follow lockdown rules when the PM and NHS are in contravention of legislation and it is completely ignored.

Leadership is something which flows from the top down. If the government don't think rules need to be obeyed then the general population will follow suit.

If I were to be hospitalized because of not following safety regulations and not using prescribed PPE at work, I would be facing prosecution.

Perhaps we need a new law book that states who needs to follow the laws of the land and who are exempt. Then there would be less confusion.

We will be staying in and well away from those not adhering to social distance. To all those staying in their property boundaries and having a VE party safe, have a great party showing respect and honouring the Heroes.

"back to the main post, almost everyone on our street are out in their gardens. Lots of music and food but all keeping to there own gardens just making most of the situation "

They all sound like great respectful neighbours. We have been wanting to move for quite some time but we have invested a lot of money and time getting our property the way we like it. This party outside just gives us more resolve really so we'll see how everything pans out. We are having our VE party for two safely in our home

Yawn .

Same old hatred.

Another thread hijacked.

In fairness the mixed messages and hype from the media about the easing of lockdown has influenced people's behaviour.

You're free to disagree of course.

Yawn heres another .

Just waiting on the rest."

This isn't really workign for you is it?

Here's my take.

When every national newspaper is under the impression that Momday is going to be some kind of watershed in the progress of the lockdown, it's either a collective delusion or the governemnt's messaging has gone wrong. I think it's the latter. You may disagree, but that's a hard palce for you to be in since collective delusions are not unknow, (google tulip mania for instance) but rarer than we think. What's more one clear, calm statement from Boris could have solved all this, but he's incapable of it.

Boris is an extrovert, larger than life. He's dishonest, feckless, nasty and narcissistic. He's a risk taker, not a risk manager. This clusterfuck, where people have told me today that their street party doesn't matter because lockdown (and therefore social distancing) ends on Monday, is his fault.

I dont think it really matters who is running them, if you work in a care home you have a moral responsibility to not be out mixing with people in the street unnecessarily and then potentially taking the virus to work with you

We have live music and a pa system for music. Someone has complained though as had a police car just. They have had a cold drink... some cake and gone again though "

"Does anyone else see the irony of celebrating our freedom at a time we are less free than ever.

Sort of.

I see the irony in celebrating beating fascism where we have spent the last 3 years seeing Farage talking about booting out foreigners. please show me a link where he saying he wants to boot out foreigners that are here illegally.

Blimey have you never heard of him? Just Google "Farage" and you'll find his bullshit well documented.

If he has such a hatred of foreigners how do you explain the fact his wife is German?

How can I be sexist when my own mother is a woman?"

There have been nearly 50,000 deaths registered this March (approximately 300 more than in March 2017) that number will increase as time goes on because the number registered by the end of the month is always lower than the actual number of deaths. Bureaucracy is a slow beast and the true number will not be known for a while yet.

I’m still working, more (unpaid) hours than before lock down, I want to see it continue until it’s safe for it to end.

the point being there having been loads of extra deaths really considering.

Yawn .

Same old hatred.

Correct, there have been loads of extra deaths, they just haven’t all been registered yet.

What extra deaths do you think there will have been in April due to the lock down?

the extra suicides..the deaths caused by people to afraid to go to get something checked out. The deaths that will fall totally under the radar as always.. I can tell you that mental health is going to be in a bad way for quite some time.

Anyway back to the ve day party. I've loves ours. We have had a big bbq .. cakes delivered from different neighbours and the entertainment has been great. Mostly enjoying themselves... kids playing football with a pitch divided into 4 for thr four groups playing. All the tables are at least 4metres if not more apart. But I wouldn't say everyone is from the same houses.

Well they’ll all be recorded so we’ll be able to tell if they outnumber the deaths from Covid19. Of course there are those who will tell you that the lock down shouldn’t be taken into account as the people would’ve committed suicide anyway, as they have said about the vulnerable people who have died of Covid 19.

HOUGHTON LE SPRING

Boris must have passed covid onto hundreds of people with his handshaking / contact, hope he can live with the guilt of his irresponsible actions and the number of people that he may have directly infected and died of covid.

Sorry to disagree but the statement is not true to an extent its totally true.

The shaking hands thing was stupid I agree but has nothing to do with this thread

As ever the press try to seek out a story so take the quote and twist it. Then they will be the same people reporting on people not following the rules

Are you responding to the correct part or even thread

This thread is about parties and how they contravene lockdown rules.

My comment is how a population is expected to follow lockdown rules when the PM and NHS are in contravention of legislation and it is completely ignored.

Leadership is something which flows from the top down. If the government don't think rules need to be obeyed then the general population will follow suit.

If I were to be hospitalized because of not following safety regulations and not using prescribed PPE at work, I would be facing prosecution.

Perhaps we need a new law book that states who needs to follow the laws of the land and who are exempt. Then there would be less confusion.

How are the NHS not following the rules?"

It is the responsibility of the employer to provide saftey equipment for employees to their job safely. It is illegal to request an employee to knowingly comit a safety violation that endangers himself or herself or others.

Whilst the NHS workers have a valid defense in that complying with the law would have cost lives the NHS as an organisation are in violation of the law by not preparing adequately and providing PPE.

Boris Johnson is also in contravention of this law for not wearing the correct PPE when performing the duty of shaking peoples hands in hospitals during a pandemic and participating in activities that posed a danger to himself and others.

On my street people were sensible, households keeping to their front gardens. Indeed I've seen very few incidents of people not obeying the social distancing rules here.

Exactly and care home staff were last to get any protective equipment.

Aren't care homes privately run businesses? "

Think 84% now are privately run and charging ridiculous fees others are council run so should be for them to supply PPE.

Was it the government that personally removed the people from the hospital to a care home or was it the hospital that discharged them, just a thought

Not sure who discharged them from hospital to the home where the mrs works.

But I am sure the owners are getting a pretty penny for it.

I remember my grandma's stories of VE day and how the street was full of tables, people singing and dancing, eating and drinking.

Today our street managed to have a very socially distant street party, it wasn't a patch on parties from 1945 but we all stayed in our own front gardens.

Music blaring, talking to neighbours four gardens over by shouting, everyone respecting the rules even after loads of drink.

We couldn't be more proud of the way our street has acted today. We didn't see anyone flouting the rules, a perfect way to pay our respects to the fallen souls who layed their lives for our freedom.
