It's looking like us in scotland are having another 3 week lockdown as nicola is wanting to be sure 100 % that it is safe to relax it. Which I totally agree as all this would be for nothing also the fact that more people are getting pissed off at the people who think the rules don't apply to them resulting in longer a lockdown |

"BRITAIN'S lockdown was extended by three weeks yesterday - after Boris Johnson urged "maximum caution".
Dominic Raab confirmed the news that there is "no change" yet as the virus is still "deadly and infectious", but some minor tweaks are expected in the coming days.
The PM will address the nation at the weekend and is expected to relax some small measures - like being able to have a picnic and taking longer exercise - but the lockdown will carry on in most forms.
Mr Raab told the public at yesterday afternoon's press conference:"I've said it very clearly - there is no change in the rules today.
"What the PM will do is set out a roadmap with milestones, that can look to the future." |

I think they should continue to shield the vulnerable, implement track and trace as soon as possible, and let everyone else return to some sense of normality before the economy is completely unrecoverable. The curve has been flattened, the NHS has the capacity (they stated this was the reason for lockdown at the beginning, not to stop most people inevitably catching it).
I base this opinion on absolutely no scientific fact however - I just want my life back. |

Lockdown is not working and now experts agree, the losses outweigh the gains. ONS think 80,000 more deaths because of it, plus the economy is on life support. |

Please define "safe"
Because seriously the very last word that should be used to justify any relaxing of social restrictions is "SAFE"
in fact the total irony is it will be more dangerous as complacency will be there
No country should be relaxing ever if the benchmark is "SAFE"
A country should be relaxing because its fucking absolutely NOT safe however because we understand a little more we can mitigate the danger appropriately
I'm a climber kite surfer mountain biker sailer
People say "ooooooo that's dangerous"
I reply
I'd prefer to do something perceived dangerous and take the correct training and precautions
Than nonchalantly do something perceived safe without any preparation or knowledge
This use of
"I'll go out when its safe" is possible one of the greatest misnomers I've heard
It's not going to be "safe" without self preservation measures ppe etc for 2-5 years if ever
Quite realistically is was never "safe" before
But using the word " safe" imho is misleading and dangerous

"Has traffic slowed or been restricted for travel to Ireland and Northern Ireland?"
Do you mean have we closed the border?
No.
It would be impossible for many reasons
People live on one side work on other
Plus there is no border as such, hundreds of small roads and boreens
then there's the nut jobs that wouldn't take kindly to it |

""BRITAIN'S lockdown was extended by three weeks yesterday - after Boris Johnson urged "maximum caution".
"What the PM will do is set out a roadmap with milestones, that can look to the future.""
I cannot see anything on BBC news that actually states lockdown is definitely extended for three weeks. All it says is we should not expect any major changes to the current situation. Any changes, however minor they may or may not be, will not be announced till Sunday. |

Never had much time for her and her separatist ways, but credit where it's due, she's handled herself extremely well through this so far.
And it must just be lockdown fever, but she's starting to look damn good to me these days |

We have almost no clue how good or bad things are, in terms of how many people have been or are infected, as we decided not to test much. We should not be thought to be in a position to be able to decide when to change course, until we've got this information. We could do this in 3 weeks. You don't always get the results you want though |

The lock down will continue next week but some much need changes are coming Sunday ... more outside time - picnics - and more shops opening would be my guess. Working from home will continue for all those that can - and shops will have to enforce distancing measures. Depending on the outcome of that we can expect more easing a fortnight after that ... |

And then 2 to 6 weeks later a tightening as the deaths increase
As soon as people start using public transport and feel "safe" the new wave will begin

That is indeed a possibility we won’t know till it’s tried ... we need to get moving again and some form of easing is the way forwards a staggered release - change some rules - see the effect - adjust as needed. A Big Bang lift is not the way but it is most definitely time for easing. |

Now is the time for our experts not government to design effective health and safety practices that can be effectively taught understood and practiced
Locking down is a fantastic effective blunt tool for short term learning and containment it is not a long term solution
Nor is telling people to stay 2 arbitrary meters (that's more than the arbitrary non equivalent 6 feet) and wash hands
These absolutely help but they are not effective long term preventions

Again only to a very small minority of the survivors and only of those severe enough to be hospitalised which again is still a small minority.
Unlike what many would have you believe here the vast majority will recover without ongoing effects - even the simple flu can cause sepsis in those who are likely to suffer from sepsis. And people are plenty happy to take the yearly risk of that. As has been said time and again we are realistically at least a year off a vaccine even if one is possible ... and the virus is not going to be irradiated. |

It wont ever be safe
We may be able to educate and reasonably reduce our danger
Dont tell the kids the dilute hydrochloric acid they are using is safe
Express how important it is they take effective precautions and educate them on how to handle the dangerous acid without harm
Dont tell them it's safe !!!

"lockdown doesn't change the death rate if it did why did the numbers keep on increasing for 5 weeks after lockdown. "
That's incorrect. Deaths peaked on April 8th, and have been on a very consistent trend downwards since.
The government presentations obfuscate this significantly by taking and reporting on the number of deaths reported to include covid on the last 24 hours. However, a significant proportion of this is always very old data, stretching back a number of weeks and months.

Or more accurately wales has announced another 3 weeks lockdown with an easing on the rules - no limit on outside exercises and some shops / libraries / waste centres to reopen !
Wasn't exercise start and finish at your home and no long distances. Meaning not going out in your car to exercise somewhere?no you are allowed to travel short distances by car for exercise some folks live in concrete jungles with no access to green areas
I'm talking about Wales, are you?"
The people of Wales will disregard anything the Assembly says if Westminster comes out with something they prefer. This is what we usually do. The WAG is a pointless institution. |

Spain hasn't had a surge in new deaths. It had a dip over the early May weekend, which as always rose again above that level once it got back into the working week. The seven day average continues to drop, and it's that you need to follow.

I don't think we should lift the lockdown regardless of Spain's new deaths.
It will be interesting to see if there are any tweaks to the restrictions on Sunday or if they say exercise can be longer, etc. |

"More mixed messages from fucking Boris
Is lockdown ending and how and when?
No one fucking knows cause no proper leadership"
Or more likely because it’s not Sunday and he’s not done the address to the country yet so we are aware of what’s changing.. |

A terrible balancing act and hope like most it goes well. Guess keeping an eye on other countries that are also slowly lifting restrictions will help
I notice Germany has warned if their figures start to get worse they may go straight back into restrictions
I want my life back but I'm not prepared to risk someone else's life to achieve it |

There will ALWAYS be new deaths but in Spain in particular new infections, new deaths and hospital admissions are all falling daily so you don't really have a point |

"It's looking like us in scotland are having another 3 week lockdown as nicola is wanting to be sure 100 % that it is safe to relax it. Which I totally agree as all this would be for nothing also the fact that more people are getting pissed off at the people who think the rules don't apply to them resulting in longer a lockdown"
It won’t be 100% safe in 3 days, weeks or even 3 months, we can’t stay in lockdown for 3 years though... We need very gradual changes, the difficulty is each change will take 3 weeks perhaps more, before its impact on the rate of transmission shows. If we can’t eradicate it without most of us having had it and we get stuck at 20,000 new infections per day, that’s nearly 2 months per million people infected, we will facing this for years |

""BRITAIN'S lockdown was extended by three weeks yesterday - after Boris Johnson urged "maximum caution".
"What the PM will do is set out a roadmap with milestones, that can look to the future."
I cannot see anything on BBC news that actually states lockdown is definitely extended for three weeks. All it says is we should not expect any major changes to the current situation. Any changes, however minor they may or may not be, will not be announced till Sunday.
I think Scotland stated it was extending it another three weeks and that was getting annoced on Saturday. Might be wrong.
Your right Nicola said today another 3 weeks for us Scots

My bet is on a vaccine being developed in record time. A lot of red tape will be cut to get a vaccine out sooner. |

But just in case any of you are enough off your rockers to take a vaccine rushed out in record time be aware the vaccine will be developed by an organisation demanding full and total legal immunity from any and all prosecution |

A lot of the time taken to develop new pharma is red tape. Anyone who has worked under FDA regulations knows it takes a lot of paperwork to get anything done. A lot of that paperwork is redicilously pedantic and I really think a lot of it could have money thrown at it to expedite things.
I guess an argument could be made that there is probably more risk in smoking but without any benefit but people still take the risk. |

In the development of a new pharmaceutical how much of that time do you think is spend developing and testing and how much time do you think is spent getting it through the bureaucratic blender and how much time actually producing the pharmaceutical? |

Thank you
Bear in mind that coronaviruses are not new. They were working on a SARS vaccine when it disappeared. They aren't so different from each other.
Also bear in mind that the pharmaceutical industry is the richest industry in the world. It makes more money than oil & gas. There is a lot of money being thrown at this and some very clever people putting a solution together. It might be rushed but I'll take my chances on it only having half the number of signatures on it.
But hey... there's people out there drinking bleach.... |

On this day 8th May 1980 the WHO declared that we had effectively eradicated smallpox from humanity.
Something else we might remember on VE day. A significant day in human history and glimmer of hope. |
