"I don't really understand how Boris and co can say we are over the peak when the numbers are still pretty high. Slightly lower some days, but not consistently so.
Enlightened me...."
In a word ...money.
But it's a big bloody gamble if it goes wrong.
Personally I think it's too early |

"Balancing act from here on out. It’s not going to go away. The NHS has showed it can cope for the time being. "
A big balancing act indeed.
We only have 5 months to get used to responsibly living with this until flu season starts |

The only peak they are interested in is the hospitalisation numbers and those peaked mid April. There’s no point in going off people testing positive because those numbers are reliant on testing. |

But did they? April might of had the biggest daily number but since then it's been a bit all over the place. |

Thats why they look at the 7 day trend....it drops at weekends as reporting of deaths can be delayed (figures given Sunday and Monday for Saturday and Sunday) it then spikes on Tuesdays as this then includes some weekend deaths as well as Monday's. Overall...week to week it has been dropping since early April. Hospital admissions have also dropped significantly. These are the same criteria other countries are using and are lifting some of their restrictions. Do not expect any big moves tho. If any of these figures start to rise again measures could be brought back. |

"It means they can no longer afford the lockdown as is and we all need to go back to work "
This but it isn't that simplistic, sadly some won't be going back to work for months if at all as we learn to live and adapt with how this will change lives and working for a while..

All the data shows, hospital admissions, ICU admissions, daily deaths are all falling.
Just look at the data and graphs, the 7 day rolling average is used to smooth out the daily variances. They are not being deceptive or secretive it's the normal way of doing things. |

"People are still catching it - how? Is it health workers, shop staff? "
I guess if people are asymptomatic then they’re spreading it unknowingly. I know of two people who had no symptoms and were in admin in a care home. They tested positive recently. You can see how it’s still out there and spreading. |

The crux of it is that if people still have the virus, others can still catch it. The numbers are showing reductions in the number of people who have the virus, which is great. The unanswerable question is: how low does that number have to get before measures can be reduced? The government’s five criteria enable them to judge when they are in a position where they can attempt a change. But the changes (when they come) will be small, and they’ll need to assess the impact of them before deciding whether to allow further freedoms or to reintroduce the current measures.
So it’s a case of trial and error going forwards really. |

It seems like it’s being ignored... almost normal in an abnormal world. The danger is that the changing mood creates a sense of everything’s ok the sun is out and I’m not sick!
Most have kids off school so it’s getting harder to entertain teach feed and muck out occasionally... those that don’t want to go to Mac Donald s b&q and Costa! ( me too of being honest) but would I risk it? Not sure at the moment... another wave can easy wash us all out to sea |

I'm doing my bestest!
I watched the briefing and it made more sense re the peak seeing the weekly plotted numbers against the daily tally. |
