all loved up

Can we post links here to none covid related or positive stories. Its proving hard to find them.

So thought it could be a lift in these hard times. Or do you have a happy story.

My positive story will be about all the smaller shops like local farm shops that are currently thriving. A butchers I use has told me that they are struggling to keep up with demand. It's not the cheapest place but they havent put their prices up.. and for me their eggs and lamb are worth going to.

Our local shops are being quite well supported too. People are trying to keep them going. Many places have changed how they operate so they deliver.

During the 'whats happened to all the loo roll' period our local shops also done very well. I think now that's past most have gone back to supermarkets sect. I hope people remember the support from smaller shops in time to come

That made me smile - our local shops still had loo roll then too.

The people stuck at home seem to be using local shops because they can go during the day. Workers having to go later in the day are stuck as only supermarkets open then.

Northampton Somewhere

I've been using my farm shop loads more, they have a fish van outside on Wednesdays so I'm going tomorrow to get some. I'll get some yeast to I think. I've also used an independent garden centre who were brilliant, very well organised.

I'm definitely going to give the big boys less of my money when we are out of this.

The farm shop had a coffee van the other day, my first take away coffee for 6 weeks ~ heavenly!

Except one scummy corner shop round our town who had his windows put through for trippling his prices when all this started, such as £19.99 for a tiny bottle of calpol. Scumbag shut up shop as no one would shop there haha.

I've learnt how to cook a mean Sunday Roast. Does that count?

I've also learnt never to attempt to cut my own hair again with a beard trimmer.

Serendipity

Our small local shops are doing a good trade and have been looking after the elderly/ vulnerable. Even our little sweet shop has been doing deliveries. I got some kopp kopps yesterday, forgotten how lovely they are.

My teens have discovered they can hoover, that’s a good news story in itself.

There is a local bakery that sells coffee, so we have been fortunate in that front.

Central

I know a small egg farmer who lost his restaurant demand for his eggs but has picked up lots of local customers who struggled to get eggs initially in shops but now buy directly from him. He's much happier, as his new large batch of fertilised eggs were starting to hatch into gorgeous little chicks. Local customers are also content to see the local source of their food supplies.

Quite a few in Staffordshire.

I'm looking forward to fish and chips for the first time this year, possibly this week if I find 1

Great that small local shops are doing well and most not profiteering. People are learning how to source good local fresh food which is good

I would never in a million years have bought bananas from Home Bargains . . . but having done so because someone said try them, they are by far the freshest I've ever had.

Morrison's for everything else - bananas from Home Bargains.

The small IT company I work for are doing really well inspite of Covid. We weathered the initial drop off in trade and now find because a lot of our rivals furloughed that we are getting good trade. We are doing our best to impress and hoping to keep the custom once our rivals un-furlough with USPs and extra services that keep them coming back for more.

It's an ill wind as they say.
