We think the total should be counted on how many results are issued in the day surely not the number of tests taken and samples waiting to be tested. As its monday and the post and delivery services are working again maybe they will get more of the samples returned to the labs to process them and issue results..what is crucial though is that people dont abuse the taking of the test, if you've been in contact with someone who tested positive or shows symptoms then yes take a test but if not why have the test done ? As it shows only that you have the virus at the time the test was taken not that you've had the virus..we know most folks will have minor or possibly no symptoms but we are sure many more who have symptoms or know there in contact with people who have it are waiting to be tested. |

And are you saying that law abiding people who have contributed to society, paid their dues maybe even served their community and country may also do so..

It's not just the figures though. When they're blatantly lying about the test numbers it erodes trust in whatever else they say and people like Icke take advantage of that.
It's much easier to get the gullible on board with tin-foil hat theories when you can prove that the people in charge are dishonest. |

Governments of all types lie, its not news as they allways have and will continue to do it..
To get votes, to gain power, to look like they are doing better than they are..
Hence today they are saying that 25% of 'us' not turning up is why the numbers are down..
Not the best excuse given the maths but again it will be swallowed..
Pretty stupid of Hancock to pluck a figure out of the air, suppose it wasn't 250 thousand though..

Not really government figures though, they are from Public Health England, the NHS and from devolved government nations health services. |

A lot of people need a test. Just because the rules says that you don't qualify unless you are a key worker, it doesn't mean that non-keyworkers don't need it.
If a non-keyworker develops symptoms and call 111 they would simply tell them to stay at home and shut up, no test, no assistance. |

The test is a waste of time and effort.
The test is only 70% accurate and only tells you if you have got COVID-19!
Test does not say whether you have already had it or whether you are going to get it!

The whole test thing got turned into a political football - I'm sure it's nice to have a test but seeing that a negative result is good for about 10 minutes, are they of any real value. |

They wanted to prove a point that day......cynical old me!you cant test 100 thousand people a day if there is not 100 thousand that need testing, no point in testing if you are not showing symptoms as it is a waste and will show nothing, having a daily figure is pointless, what matters is all those that need/require a test can get one when required surely.
This
I know all governments lie, but this one is raising the bar. The incompetence is frankly breathtaking. The only other thing that is more shocking is how people seem to be aware they are and just don't really care! where is the lies in the statement above exactly??, I am saying there is no point testing 100k a day just for the sake of it to meet a figure, what's matters is all that need a test can get one when required is the important thing isn't it, or do you just want 100k a day done no matter what? If they only tested 77k on Sunday was this because that's all there was that needed testing? I will admit I dnt know the answer to this but I also suspect neither do you.
A lot of people need a test. Just because the rules says that you don't qualify unless you are a key worker, it doesn't mean that non-keyworkers don't need it.
If a non-keyworker develops symptoms and call 111 they would simply tell them to stay at home and shut up, no test, no assistance. This is not true, it is open to anyone that is working or travelling to and from work now regardless of whether or not they are key workers, people of 65 etc, have a look at the Gov website."
Which isn't the majority of people anyway... |

It was always going to happen since getting to the target was a superficial stunt rather than the growth of testing we were actually seeing. |

Can someone please tell me how else you would count the number of home tests, if not the day they are sent out.
They will be arriving at people's houses on different days, they will take the test on different days and send them back on different days.
The only consistent and measurable fact, is the day they were sent out. |

That's the thing, they could hit 100k tests by pulling in the tests from before not recorded and the tests given out that will have results in the future.
But the problem with that is that the number of tests for a period afterwards will look shit by comparison.
Time will tell.

How about being happy that 77,000 tests are being done?"
People would have been happy with that if the govt had admitted failure of attaining the target. |

You should count them on the day on which you have the result of the test.
Saying that you completed a test if you don't have the result is stupid. This way you can post 1 million test in one day and never get them back. You will have 1 million official tests done and 0 results. Does is make sense to you? |

IMO all tests should be counted when they have been tested and digitally recorded. |

no point in testing if you are not showing symptoms as it is a waste and will show nothing
So you're saying your scientific examinations have determined any test for covid-19 will not show you have the virus if you are not showing any symptoms.....that's how viruses spread so easily, you're the most infections before you show any symptoms.

There " But you cannot get tested unless you are showing symptoms unless you are key worker or NHS, everyone else can only get a test if they are showing symptoms, so what you are saying is everyone should be tested no matter if they show symptoms or not, and to this I agree, but seeing as this is not the case at the minute, you can only test the number of people who have met the criteria no matter how many there are, and if its 70k a day that's what it is. No where did I talk about my scientific calculations, I am not a scientist and dont profess to be one either.
I am fully aware a lot of people are asymptomatic and from personal experience I know the tests are not totally reliable and sometimes have to be done more than once as was mine. |

You're vastly expanding now on the section of your post I was commenting on
You said
"

"
Of course it will show something, it'll show if you are carrying the virus or not carrying the virus, obviously depending on the accuracy of the test.
Secondly if they are say only testing people with symptoms then the test is going to show if the symptoms people have relates to them actually having the virus or not.
So either way, whoever is tested, there is a point to doing testing and it's not a waste of time and it won't show nothing as you claimed if people don't have symptoms. |

It was pretty obvious what you meant tbh, and now you're engaging in obfuscation to try and weasel out of it. Are you a government minister by any chance? |

1st May - 122,347 tests (30/04)
2nd May - 105,937 tests (01/05)
3rd May - 76,496 tests (02/05)
4th May - 85,186 tests (03/05)
Scrutiny is required if the downward trend continues. But it was the weekend so possibly less tests were posted/requested then? |

How about when they are sent back and tested? Until then they are Schrodinger's tests, they both exist and don't exist at the same time. |

Notice how there are no headlines saying all the test are taken in the first hour of the website opening. I'm guessing people can't be arsed to sign up for them now they are freely available. What with having to drive all that way to the test centre. |

Just checked on Gov website.
Drive through tests are still available to be booked in all regions except Wales.
Tests via post are still available today.
Perhaps all the people elligible for tests have had them?
Cant test people who aren't booking one.

Massive amount of work and effort put in to creating testing infrastructure and opened up who can request a test.
What has the government not done that would see the number of daily tests taken up decrease?
Is it the old adage "you can lead a horse to water but you cant make it drink"?
