Headline in Worcester News. 2 city centre pubs to re-open.
Seen on newsagents hoarding on way to my allotment this afternoon. Didn't get the paper so not checked the details....could bo online but haven't been arsed to look yet. |

I'm pretty sure the government gets the final say on when and whether places get to open again.
I think Mr Martin is just being bullish and trying to force the issue (Or at least get parliament to discuss it) seeing as there seems to be little idea or indication at present coming from those in charge.
My guess is that restaurants and cafes will be allowed to open up before pubs will (easier to maintain social distancing) so Wetherspoons will probably apply to open it's food services in line with this? |

Agreed with you, however if Wetherspoons food services are open, two people could grab a table and just order a couple of pints. Instantly turning it into pub.

Yes, there may well be a policy introduced that drinks could only be served with food... although this could result in a new "nibbles" menu being introduced. Hence potentially creating many parts of the countries first ever Izakaya? |

We don’t really need pubs anyways, pubs were meeting places because there was fuck all to do other than go to the pub or club back in the day.
Now we have so much more to do they are not such a great loss |

My village local has its hardend locals but there is never any more than 15 people in (from what I've seen).

Most venues will probably go food only but even then I can't see how that's a viable solution if wearing face masks is inforced

I would think it's hard to sell anywhere it's not really a seller's market, I don't even know if you can view places to buy, I think places might end up getting repossessed and left empty, possibly squatters in, I don't really know what else can happen, it's quite worrying. |

I'd be disappointed to see more pubs have to finish in business, except Wetherspoons, due to its repugnant owner
I think it's probably too soon though. Our physical distancing got to lower infection rates but pubs could reverse that - just for minimum wage staff to be lambs for the slaughter. If they could manage ultra low customer volumes, using beer gardens etc but it's probably not feasible for them and could get the virus passed around.
Pub drimkers are mixed but this epidemic is disproportionately killing the poorer people here, perhaps more highly representive of pub users.

4 pubs within walking distance to us have already reopened their doors, 3 micro pubs and one proper pub offering a take out service on real ales. They are proving to be very popular with large ques forming.
I note with interest Simon Dolan has served notice on Matt Hancock of his intention to sue the government over the lockdown.
Its my view that other rich and powerful business people such as Tim Martin will follow suit.
Being realistic they are not just going to sit back and let their empires be destroyed

I'm living in hope that pubs and restaurants open soon, and with the noises the government is making, they will.
It's all about numbers, but if my works canteen can manage 100 staff, then I'm damn sure my local boozer and indian restaurant can too.
Pre-booked tables like in the restaurant trade, passing trade only if there is availability. Take customer temperature on way in with a gun (already in use in many U.K. Workplaces as a control). Space the tables out, limit the numbers accordingly, order drinks in one place, collect in another. It's not rocket science is it?
Hospitality makes up a large part of the UK economy, so th government will open it back up as soon as they can (it's not just the customer, it's the whole supply chain, glass bottles, malted barley, sugar, breweries, logistics, distributors before we even get to the pub). It's a huge amount of jobs that are at risk.
The 2m distancing has dropped to 1m in some parts of Europe - which is still quite a distance in general. The most important thing people can do is isolate themselves if they are ill - which we've done really well so far.
Ever the optimist, but we can do this.

this is not going to be the case at all. Cinemas are expected to be open by the end of August as far as I'm aware..restaurants much sooner

I love people saying they are going to wait for a vaccine before retuning to normal ha ha so funny. We have a flu vaccine the nhs give it out every year, so how come we still have the flu. There will never be a vaccine we have to just get immune to it like all other viruses. |

The majority of the UK public are not in favour of things opening back up and life returning to something similar to before - and especially for pubs to be opening soon. This is the latest survey data just published. Less than 10% think pubs should be opened soon. |

At no point has anyone said any business will be shut for that long. It's ridiculous to even think that. The government wont pay wages for that long and too many people will end up unemployed. |

Life has to get back to some semblance of reality and the economy restarted with or without a vaccine. Logically pubs clubs music venues and sport will be last to reopen. Pubs and restaurants perhaps with limited capacity will reopen in time. however It’s going to be 2021 before we see live music and sport returning in my view |

Sadly I think youre wrong shag and it's another one of many ticking timebombs caused by lockdown. An awful lot of people are in for a sudden shock when they find that they cant drink every day at the end of this |

I don't think it will make a massive difference, alcohol can still be bought and cheaper than in pubs.

Maybe but some I know are drinking a bit more, it's a stressful time for many.. "
That is also right but it is never the solution, a night drinking in the pub could equal to more than 1000kcal, many dont take into consideration the liquid calories, there are other things like exercising is a good substitute as well. |

I've tended to go shopping either first thing in the morning or mid afternoon and have had no problems with social distancing at all. |

Pubs.. public houses .. purpose as I see it was for groups of people to gather together, be sociable and enjoy a drink
So .. given that is now not possible IMHO pubs need to stay closed for the foreseeable .. it may end them of course but mankind is a resourceful creature and will find other ways after all this of getting together in groups and having a drink or two .. Social isolation and 'pubs' for me won't work so I won't be going to any .. |

I guarantee all you lot on your high horse will at some point use another major chain company who are just as bad without even knowing it, and some will be eating a spoons meal within a few months of it opening again.
