Press trying to stir up trouble

Stepps (Glasgow)

It is clear that while there has been some decent journalism at points during this crisis and fortunately some journalists who are not afraid to ask some probing questions, there are some who really just want to stir up trouble and create a story where there is none.

I watched Nicola Sturgeon's daily briefing today and when asked if she agreed with the PM that we can be certain the peak /worst of virus has passed she said "she was optimistic regarding signs but didn't want to go as far as saying the worse is definitely over".

However just been reading some news articles where they are displaying headlines "Sturgeon criticises PM" which heavily implies that she had a go at Boris Jonson during her briefing.

This was clearly not the case all she did was express she had a slightly different view on matter, there are no doubt that some of the press really do having nothing better than try to create friction just for the sake of stirring up a story at times, pretty contemptible at the current time i think.

I agree. So many news 'stories' with misleading incendiary headlines. They seem to be twisting things to wind the public up.

One day the media are banging on about how lockdown will be ending soon. The next day they are saying it will last all year.

So true, saw other day her getting accused of trying to embarrass Westminster because of her statement about face covering coming out before they had said anything, it's pathetic..... Westminster don't need anyone to embarrass them

We get the press that can be monetised with adverts on our phones.

I believe reuters is one of the last truely unbiased news outlets in the world.

Business news apps like investing and bloomberg tend to be politically unbiased but it's usually to fiance related for most people

The misinformation sells newspapers unfortunately and that's what it is all about. I personally have not bought a newspaper in over 20 years. Enough said

We get exactly the press we choose. Turn it off, read Reuter’s, Wall Street journal ,Al Jazeera or Bloomberg if you want decent news. I expect most people want click bait though

I think they do tbf

There are good journalists out there and do some good work (mp claims scandal for a start)however there are some proper dregs which sadly seem to be The most popular ones on there.

I think the way the press has dealt with the whole thing is disgusting, exaggerating everything just for a story, asking the same questions over and over there has been very little constructive journalism.

This is very true I'm afraid

As mentioned by others there are some top reporters but sadly far to many that are only interested in gloom and handing out blame (like they could do better)

Sadly many reporters are politicians in training

Or is it the other way around

News reporters are loving being the voice of doom n gloom. Saw one reporter asking the nurse at a hospital that was packed with PPE saying do you have enough to which she replied yes she’s so busy sorting it all out boxes upon boxes only for the reporter to not like her answer so added ..”for the day” .......putting words into her mouth .....nope he was not happy she had a lot of ppe

I feel the press have become a truly poisonous element of our society. I have no idea what the answer is but feel there needs to be much stricter regulations to prevent 'fake news'.

They really do create huge divisions between people and cause unnecessary panic and anxiety. It must be exhausting for politicians / celebrities etc seeing themselves continually misquoted.

Reading some forums on here you would think only the UK had problems with PPE ect. Now and again you see reports about other countries in Europe but they prefer to skirt around thier problems which are the same as ours.

Well done to the naked German health workers who brought attention that they are also out of PPE ( some hot doc's too lol)

How dare the press or those who can't stand the tories criticize this reliable and transparent government??!! How dare they?

1 It's not as if these guys had promised 365M to the NHS before Brexit before admitting it was a lot of bull.

2 It's also the same lot who told us that they create 50000 jobs for nurses by taking into account those won't leave.

3 It's also the same lot who told us we need a strong and stable government. Who would dare questioning this. The last three years have been so strong and stable.

4 How dare we questioning this superb government who let the Cheltenham festival or the Liverpool-Madrid match take place when other countries were already locked down?

5 Johnson has told us that so far the whole thing has been a success. Who are those cynical people to criticize a gvt that has failed to provide a lot of nurses with the most basic of equipment.

6 27 500 and counting. We still manage about 750 a day. Hats off guys, what a great success. Shame on the horrible journalists!

Poor tories. I feel so sorry for them. Life is so unfair for them. These horrible journalists are so evil.

What is conservative about the current conservative party who has pretty much nationalised the railways, spent more money than any Labour politician would dare spending?
