"I've just been able to order one of the home testing kits from the gov.uk website. Has anybody else done one or had a test administered?"
Just? I thought the site had shut for the day after 15 minutes early this morning? |

"Can anyone order these or just essential workers?"
All essential workers in England, and members of their households who are showing symptoms of coronavirus will now be able to get tested, the government has announced.
This will mean individuals and people they live with will have the reassurance of knowing whether their symptoms are caused by coronavirus and can decide whether they are well enough to return to work.
A new campaign will help essential workers in England - including NHS and care staff, teachers, hospital cleaners, public servants, the emergency services, supermarket staff, delivery drivers, and other critical infrastructure staff - to access testing. |

Can we just ask - are you in the essential worker category as we thought it was just meant for them and their families initially |

The test kits are only for essential workers who are self-isolating.
If you're not experiencing any symptoms you shouldn't be ordering them.
Seeing as there's no restrictions on placing an order I suspect every tom, dick and harry has applied for one. |

Think you might be right with how quickly they are running out - people ordering them so they can try to justify to themselves breaking lockdown.
Fire is in the essential worker category but not displaying symptoms so his understanding is he wasn’t eligible for a home test kit. |

"All front line key workers need testing symptoms or not imo
D
Evidence shows it is useless if not showing symptoms. Total waste of testing and irrelevant result"
Given that studies have shown that between 50-75% of people who have it never display symptoms, I think testing as many people as possible is the best way to go. |

The problem with testing people without any signs is they will need to be tested regularly which will be impossible due to the sheer volume
It won't prove they've had the virus only if they currently have it

That’s exactly how I interpreted it too.
Both my son and I are eligible to order a test BUT ONLY if we have symptoms of the virus. As we don’t, we’re not. |

Don't forget that the tests are only about 70% accurate and that many NHS staff are doing 2 or 3 to allow for false negative results.
Makes you wonder why the Antibody test that is "only" 85% accurate is being rejected. You couldn't make it up |

The last anti body test results released were 30% accurate |

That must be correct then
Nearly every other tests were in the 80/85% bracket but obviously they were wrong |

Does anyone know of the accuracy of these as I've heard that even in hospitals some seem to be doing multiple swabbing because of questions nicer accuracy. |

My friends daughter has just been tested as she is showing signs but rest of family are not even thou her mum is a nurse ,it dosent make sense it clearly states on government site that if all family members will be tested if a member shows symptoms, i dont think nobody knows what they ate doing . |

Early on government took the heard approach and I think though now denied,it's still being used not as a policy but simply by the fact how those frontline workers in contact were just sent home to families without isolating but told to isolate with family (spread it there and high % population get it). This was a way arguably that makes frontline workers more resilient as they build up natural immunity. |
