Average death rate in the uk is 17000 per year due to pandemic flu.
The worst ever was sars at 28000.
Just wondering what will be both the economical and mental health costs of what feels like a social experience.
Please don’t respect the deaths with propaganda. |

Fake data.
17000 si much much much much more than the average.
And anyway SARS-CoV-2 already did much more victims in few weeks. |

"What's also concerning are the cancer patients who are at risk from lack of treatment or diagnosis.
Hospitals are still seeing people? The problem is people not going "
No, cancelled or delayed. |

This is true, but has nothing to do with the lockdown. It is happening because of the pandemic. Because if you get SARS-CoV-2 while under cancer treatment your are almost certainly dead.
Being in lockdown or not won't make any difference. |

But it reduces the risk of catching it not being in hospital
My friend is still going for her infusion for her colitis medication and my appointments still happening via phone call |

Lots of cancer treatments have stopped they just cancel appointments then ring to say you’ll be fine , cancer will kill more people than this virus and with heart trouble and strokes make up what’s really dangerous |

So almost 20,000 people dead in approximately 6 weeks is acceptable then just because flu kill's people every year?
What number of deaths do you think it's actually important to take notice??
The situations are totally different and a ridiculous comparison.
It's like comparing the amount of people killed whilst paragliding to shark attacks.
Pointless |

Yes and all the people who are too afraid to go to hospital and are dying at home instead, unavailable transplants, dv incidents, child incidents, overdoses, the list goes on and on and on, everyone is fixated on covid-19 the bigger picture is much worse and the death figures when they are published will reflect it. |

Better to do some real modelling of the actual data, if you have any point, otherwise it's a swirl of opinion. Anything that detracts from the current horrors being experienced by the public, health, care and support workers diminishes their suffering and the leadership that's not planned and managed appropriately from October 2016, when epidemic readiness testing showed how we were lacking. Not to mention from January 2020 when shortcomings could have been addressed. |

What I find unbelievable is posts still comparing this to flu. Let's get real about the deaths to this.
There was a piece on news night 2 nights back and taking data from ons and the cqc they think the total figure is over 41000 deaths to COVID-19.
I dont know about the mental health part...but it will most definitely be affecting 41000+ families... |

"No, she is correct. Annual deaths from flu is 290,000 worldwide including 17,000 in the UK"
Yeah just under 17000 is correct but the number of deaths vary widely from nearly 29000 one year down to less than 2000 another. If we socially isolated the number of flu deaths would be very small.Regardless the death toll from covid 19 is going to out strip even the highest flu death rate easily and that is with social distancing measures in place. |

I think we've become so fixated with covid 19 that we are missing the bigger picture and in danger of sleepwalking in to worse problems |

I'm pretty sure that the families of the dead won't see it as being fixated!!!

No, obviously it's a massive issue and challenge. Maybe I should have used the term overshadowed? I think it's important not to lose sight of other issues which could create problems just as big further down the line. |

The deaths due to pneumonia have gone off a cliff - so we must factor in that a lot of people who have died of covid - 19 would have died in the near future of pneumonia. Obviously a tragedy whatever anyone dies of |

I am sure they will not.
However the families of the children who are attempting suicide right now because they cannot recieve the help they need would use fixated as reasonable choice of words, support in all areas needs to be focused on not just covid-19. |
