Regardless of whether you think lockdown is great or a waste of time did you know that your right to go outside whenever you wanted to was something that could be withdrawn if the government saw fit? |

Did you honestly think that they couldn't do this, we live in a dictatorship not a democracy. The "freedoms" and " rights" you think you have are only the ones they want you to have and can be taken away anytime they want. |

Yes, thanks I did. I also know that it's extremely unlikely to happen.
Try looking on the bright side OP, it's a lovely sunny day. |

Did you also know that the government can remove your human rights to drive at 150mph on the motorway - in case you kill someone !
or
Did you also know that the government can remove your human rights to fire a gun in the town centre in case you kill someone !
or
Did you also know that the government can remove your human rights to drive a 44 tonne truck twenty hours a day - in case you kill someone !
In the situation we are in at the moment staying in is just as sensible.
I hate the tories and what they stand for, but at the moment I do as they say and stay in as much as I can, not because I am being told to but because it is keeping me and mine as safe as I can.

Or in this case, the government can remove your right to freedom of movement for the safety of the wider community. |

Did you know that not every issue is black and white?
That cars have benefits but also risks?
That policy making is about balancing priorities and risk mitigation not elimination? |

It just seems such a massive infringement of our civil liberties that it should come with regular estimates of how much longer this policy will be implemented
Saying it won't be lifted until there is no chance of a second peak is too vague and could be anytime in the next 2 years |

I think our freedoms of movement come from
Magna Carta, if we had stayed in Europe it would have likely moved into law through some European human rights act, there’s numerous unresolved issues with private land , tolls, change of address and ID. So the government can actually do what they want in the UK in this area |

Nobody gains or loses human rights, they apply in the same way to everyone. In this example the right to liberty is limited therefore can be restricted...as long as it is for a fair and valid reason |

Go look at the statutory instrument. That's explicitly what it says. The fact you don't know that is immaterial. |

All Human rights across the whole of Europe can be curtailed by an authority calling it to act under 'prescient danger'.
Here's another idea too:
Swear at a Policeman under your right to free speech and when he/she tells you to desist . . . swear at him/her again . . . and see how long your right to fee speech lasts.

I’m not sure you understand them either if I’m totally honest. It’s my human right for my elected government at act in a way that safe guards me and other residents of the country. So if that restricts what I can/can not do for a period of time then so be it. Think you really should stop trying to fight an argument that isn’t there. The vast majority of UK residents are abiding by the rules in place because they value there lives. The lives of other and also our health service. This is done by choice. People are still choosing not to go out for anymore than is allowed. You can still go out. The government haven’t banned going out which would be against out humans rights as they allow us the right to shop for food, go to work (profession specific). They allowing us to go for medication and health care when needed. They even allowing time to exercise. Therefore allowing us all the things we need to survive. Yes we might not be living our best lives but at least we still have lives and if we follow the rules more of us will have our lives for much longer than if we didn’t follow them. Simple |

Human rights, the phrase is used so often to mean something I want to do that someone in authority has said I can't do'.
If the government were telling me to stay in for no reason I would be manning the barricades of protest, but to me (and I am not speaking for everyone - just me); this makes sense ! |

You are lucky this is not America and people are arming themselves to the teeth for when society breaks down in their eyes. What do you want to do. Go and have gatherings in various places like the idiot yanks adking for the seige to be lifted as they have a right to go outside etc. As already pointed out many times. They can do what is reasonable under the circumstances for the safety of the masses. |

"All Human rights across the whole of Europe can be curtailed by an authority calling it to act under 'prescient danger'.
Here's another idea too:
Swear at a Policeman under your right to free speech and when he/she tells you to desist . . . swear at him/her again . . . and see how long your right to fee speech lasts.
You see swearing at a police officer cannot be likened to walking around
Well OP, why not test out your free movement by playing hopscotch in a minefield. After all the signs saying, "Danger Do Not Enter" are just an instrument of the Government to curtail your Human Rights.. "

"It just seems such a massive infringement of our civil liberties that it should come with regular estimates of how much longer this policy will be implemented
Saying it won't be lifted until there is no chance of a second peak is too vague and could be anytime in the next 2 years
Which is why the statutory instrument is reviewed every three weeks...
But they are not saying anything every three weeks other than it's going to be another three weeks
there's only been one three week review so far?
In two weeks they will say it will be another three weeks and everyone on here will accept it - no questions asked
I honestly feel like you have too much time on your hands OP. Maybe you could use your time more productively and sign up to volunteer in your local NHS trust as they’re all struggling at the moment I’m sure they would value your input there. I say this as an NHS keyworker who is still working.

I'm not an expert in any way but I do know any virus cannot move itself, you and other people are it's best friend, without human contact it can't move.

"Regardless of whether you think lockdown is great or a waste of time did you know that your right to go outside whenever you wanted to was something that could be withdrawn if the government saw fit?
What exactly is your point OP?
To establish whether you knew your human rights were something that could be withdraw"
So, over the past hour or so we’ve established why (some) human rights can be limited and qualified. We’ve also established that this is entirely legal.
Has your query been resolved OP? |

Do you identify as a freeman of the land and what is your opinion on vaccination?"
I don't think we should ever promise to follow all laws that a government imposes because that would lead to us denouncing someone like Sophie Scholl who opposed the German government in 1942. With vaccination I would be more accepting of it if there was not so much money to be made from it and they were more honest about whats in them and their side effects |

Load of rubbish OP. Whoever was in charge at the moment would have imposed this. There was no choice. It was either this or watch 1000s of extra people die before their time. Cancer patients go undiagnosed all the time unfortunately as people put off going to see GP. Those with concerns are still able to seek medical attention and diagnosis n treatment is still happening. I know someone who has having treatment as an outpatient yesterday in a general hospital. As for young people not being able to buy a home. This isn’t a new thing because of covid. It’s been an issue on the horizon for years n years. And businesses will unfortunately fold. But I’m sure if you ask any business owner they’d rather be alive than dead. So on the whole they’ll follow the rules. |

I see cancer patients not being diagnosed or treated. I see young people's lives being destroyed with no chance of ever being able to afford a home of their own. I see thousands upon thousands of businesses being destroyed and unemployment hitting 5 or 6 million.
I see immunocompromised people being protected. I see the costs of letting it rip earlier being realised. I see a massively rich country which has the resources to protect lives and recover.
How can a country that owes over a trillion pounds be a massively rich country?
We're in the top ten economies globally
We over a trillion pounds. All this time under austerity has seen our debts keep rising"
Uk sebts will never be paid off. At the moment we are attempting (apparently) to keep on top of the interest. And failing. As westminster idiots keep borrowing more, then giving themselves pay rises. |

I think if you study global economics you’ll find nearly every country on the planet owe money. Yet we still class them as wealthy countries. "
There might be something wrong with our classification system then |

"I realise this, but debt isn't an uncommon problem. We have the resources more than many places."
In all honesty we have fewer resources than a good many other countries.
Our wealth came from sailing around plundering everywhere we went like pirate conquerors. Now it comes from ripping people offand charing interest.
Britain is bankrupt look at the debt. |

Haha you are funny if you don’t think we’re still a wealthy country compared to many. Either that or you’re not well travelled or have a grasp on what other countries are like to understand why we still wealthy |

I’d like to know there role in the nhs. Are they front line or not to see if they truly understand why we’re doing this. I’ll go first and say I’m a nurse. "
Well whatever you do don't tell the Op you've done something like a bit of dancing to stress out or lighten the mood, he's opposed to that too..
for what your doing.. |

Thank you. I’m not a dancer but I’ve personally loved the videos I’ve seen flying around other social media platforms. I love seeing other people doing it. Especially when times are so difficult. We need ways to get through the days |

"Even the very fact you are voicing your concerns is an indication you do not live in dictatorship.
There are different degrees of dictatorship. "
Well yeah I suppose there is. It's a sliding scale and like all things in life nothing is black or white, just different shades of grey. |

"Did you honestly think that they couldn't do this, we live in a dictatorship not a democracy. The "freedoms" and " rights" you think you have are only the ones they want you to have and can be taken away anytime they want. "
As its for the good of the majority I see very little choice as you always get the minority of idiots (or selfish) that only think of themselves and without understanding the bitter picture outside their own little world think they know better.

Looking at purely finances so are many countries our debt is less per capita than most (Italy, France , USA , Japan etc etc ) |

"Regardless of whether you think lockdown is great or a waste of time did you know that your right to go outside whenever you wanted to was something that could be withdrawn if the government saw fit?
Do you identify as a freeman of the land and what is your opinion on vaccination?
I don't think we should ever promise to follow all laws that a government imposes because that would lead to us denouncing someone like Sophie Scholl who opposed the German government in 1942. With vaccination I would be more accepting of it if there was not so much money to be made from it and they were more honest about whats in them and their side effects
You have the right to stand for election and when you elected you can change things. Can’t say fairer than that really.
We are living under a dictatorship. We just get to change who the dictators are every five years"
My husband works for an oil and gas company and travels to some countries which may, on paper, not be classed as a dictatorship but to our western eyes are most certainly not a democracy.
Try spending some time in one of these places and then come back and tell us all you live in a dictatorship.
I really hate to say this but grow up.
The only good thing, he's at home at the moment.
Please stay in. |
