Hope we re going to make all the vaccines here, and not give it away like we always do. Our taxes have paid for it so we should make money out of it, don't want to hear it all the do gooders say we give it to mankind if another country made they would sell to us. |

From tonight's briefing there will be money made available to manufacture the vaccine here
Regarding making money from it. I feel the code for any vaccine should be made available to all countries free of charge so they can manufacture it themselves.
We need a fast solution to this global virus |

I really can't believe someone actually posted this. There are many countries working on a vaccine, if one of them gets it right and we don't do you think they should sell it to us ? It a global pandemic for goodness sake. |

What I'd like to know is.
Who is the vaccine for? The elderly and those at high risk or everyone.
Will it be mandatory?
If mandatory what happens to those that decline it?

I would imagine they would prioritise people with the objective of everyone.
I doubt they could force it on people, but I don't know what they would do with minors |

Why would they have numpty on their heads for declining a vaccine that is rushed out with no idea of any long term side effects?
I certainly won't be taking it. |

Spotted the anti-vaxxer!
The research and initial studies are being rushed once a viable vaccine is available. This is phase 1 where healthy volunteers are used to test safety alongside animal studies. It won't be rolled out to all and sundry after just one trial. SMH. |

"no me neither, the flu jab gave everybody i knew the bloody flu, its taking away and interfering with our bodies defense system.
"
The reasons for trials are to test for safety, establish the effective dose requirements etc. Part of the safety in the planning stages will involve not giving someone the live virus. Flu jabs are similar, not requiring live virus being given. |

Haha "spotted the anti vaxxer" because i refuse to take somthing that usually takes 4-6 years of testing.
And for a virus that stil effected less than 1% of the population and with if i was to get it have a 99% survival rating.
Ill take my chance with good diet, exercise and let my own body build up immune system to this.

If you refused vaccines in 1853 then you had to pay £1, a fair bit on money then. However, the 1907 act allows conscientious objection so they probably can't make it mandatory. |

I don't care what other countries do, this is for everyones benefit. It should be shared for no commercial gain.
To be honest, the lab that creates a vaccine will probably be in such high demand they will get benefit by default. |

"Well Miss covid19 has mutated into 33 strains now so let's hope the vaccine hits the current one. "
This is an instance of an overloaded scientific term (strain) as every unique genome we encounter will be counted as a separate strain. I've read the paper and it's referring to mutations which is very exciting from a science point of view as we get to track these 'strains' around the world. Most of the mutations/strains provide no advantage or disadvantage but some might and the drug and vaccine research will take these into account. |

The estimate is it will cost £2 billion to create the vaccine.
There are others in front of the British taxpayer who can stake a claim on its ownership, if you extend the thinking in your previous post.

Many pharmaceutical companies from various countries are already involved. The main research team is in Oxford, but there are many people involved in the project. |

How have 'our taxes' paid for it?" Have a look at how many medicines discovered that the research was funded by the UK taxpayer and then the government literally gives them away to the giant drug companies so they can fleece the sick. |

There are 4 phases in any clinical trial of a new drug to market. Phase 4 is when it’s live and any expected but out of normal range side effects recorded. |

It costs millions and Av. 10 years to bring a new drug to market. The price isn’t set by the manufacturer it’s set by a regulatory pricing scheme. |

Clearly you didnt read correctly.
30 strains of "coronavirus" ...yes. Including a couple of common cold viruses, several varieties of flu (H1N1, swine flu etc), the initial SARS virus, MERS etc.
Corona viruses are a whole family of viruses...Covid19 is ONE of them....there are "possibly" 3 slight variations...but one vaccine should cover them all. (IF one can be found of course)
Bad enough people quoting non-peer reviewed reports from questionable sources.....but to not even read them....? Jeez...find a VERY LARGE tin foil hat and stay under it! |

None of that makes any sense! When talking about strains of this particular virus it's due to the frequent mutations that occur in RNA viruses (approx every 2 weeks). The paper is solely concentrating on SARS-CoV-2, nothing else. What does flu have to do with it? It's not a coronavirus! That's like comparing E Coli to Streptococcus!
COVID-19 is not a virus, it's the name given to the medical condition you get if you test positive and display symptoms. COVID-19 = Coronavirus Disease 19 (where 19 is the year (2019) it was first detected). |

Thanks, drugs research is generally supported by large pharma and research companies, backed by institutional investors and shareholders.
The government have offered £20 million to the Oxford group and I think a similar sum to Imperial College, which in the grand scheme of things is a drop in the ocean for research of this nature. |

Indeed it is, and is refuted by all reliable news outlets.
I really wish people would check the facts before believing deliberately misleading stories on the internet. |

I don't have a tin foil hat, as a quick look at most of my posts would show you, but governments have agendas and ideologies and aren't always forthcoming with the complete truth, and this particular government are a case in point.
Do you blithely believe everything that the government tells you, or do you treat some of it with a healthy dose of scepticism? If it's the former then you are very naive indeed. |

Who says I have total trust in Bill Gates? I'm pretty sure he's no paragon of virtue, but I'm also pretty sure that he's far more benign than a lot of governments are. All of the ridiculous conspiracy theories about him, being peddled on the internet by idiots, belong in a science fiction novel.
Don't overreach yourself, because you've already cherry picked a quote from a post of mine that actually proves I don't have total trust in him. You obviously didn't realise that even whilst you were doing it, so I don't really think I need awareness lessons from you, thanks. |

You do realise that if they develop a vaccine in the laboratory, we have no vaccine-factory in UK capable of manufacture at scale. We would probably have to outsource the manufacturing to China or India |

Or not. Most are manufactured in the EU (like insulin etc). |

It's highly unlikely the vaccine will be made in the UK even if it's successfully developed here, like with everything else we don't have the necessary manufacturing ability or capability |

How have 'our taxes' paid for it?Have a look at how many medicines discovered that the research was funded by the UK taxpayer and then the government literally gives them away to the giant drug companies so they can fleece the sick.
It costs millions and Av. 10 years to bring a new drug to market. The price isn’t set by the manufacturer it’s set by a regulatory pricing scheme. " Those schemes are not working any longer as some companies are selling the drugs at as much as 500% above the price paid a few years ago the profit margin is huge and unethical My original reply was to do with the fact that a lot of drugs developed through 100% British taxpayer funding have the patents sold for next to nothing to foreign companies that then hugely hike up the prices and make massive profits |
