No tests, no checks... and no sense: Hundreds of passengers arrive at Heathrow from virus hotspots - and they're not even stopped for Covid-19 screening.
That's what the government is doing to slow down the virus. |

"Where can they go to spread it we are all being told to stay home and distance ourselves from others not in our household "
Public transport from the airport, for starters, after they've left airport staff behind them. |

"I don't see the sense in testing them for something before they fly in.
Especially with lockdown here and being as likely to get it here "
They don't have to be tested but they should have quarantine by 14 days |

Of course. In stores also. It is full of places where they can infect others |

I think with all the hotels shut they could make one or two close to the airport to be quarantine hotels for 14 days lockdown...also they pay for the hotel...as they do in china. |

What is this based on? Is there a link or just conjecture? People are being repatriated but no one is flying from 'virus hotspots' to the UK for shits and giggles. Let's not forget the UK is very much a hotspot itself! Planes are not flying with anyone other than those with right to be in the UK or essential business. |

Most planes coming into Heathrow are actually cargo planes anyway...that and repatriation as has been stated before.....but that wouldn't be making mischief would it? |

I think that the current numbers being measured in hundreds when Heathrow alone would normally be measured in tens if not hundreds of thousands of passagengers a day says it all. |

Due to the 5 plus day incubation period you could be clear on a test before your flight but after you are back delvelop the virus so unless everyone arriving here goes into isolation for 2 weeks would not achieve anything |

Are we testing people as they leave their own front door as they have just as much chance of having it and taking it to public transport and stores
This hasn’t been a “foreign” virus for a significant amount of time now and by that I mean, although it originated from a foreign location, it is now spreading domestically so foreign travellers pose no greater risk to us than our own citizens, until we bring our infection rate down and start testing/ vaccinating everyone at which point they could be reintroducing infection from abroad but we are miles off that
Quarantining people off planes at our expense to check they don’t have something that a huge number of our population already have is just a total waste of resources |

You just don't understand. These people should be quarantined for two weeks. Only with symptoms can they have a test done. Like most of us. |

I dont even understand what you mean ?
Could we have stopped this by testing and quarantining people at borders in february ... yes , but that horse bolted a long time ago
Flights are now grounded because people shouldnt be leaving the house unless they are a key workers ... if we bring tourists in we need hotels and restaurants etc open and that can’t happen just now
The flights coming in are either bringing uk citizens home where they will follow lockdown sane as everyone else, bringing in supplies or bringing workers in (for fruit picking) who will be limited to concentrated areas and are needed do the crops dont get spoiled and leave food shortages |

Because these people will go home to their own houses where they will follow lockdown same as the rest of us, who are not yet being routinely tested and quarantined first so for the government to spend money testing and quarantining them somewhere , paying for the test, the facility overheads, supervision, food and hygiene essentials,(you cant just lock these people in some where and leave them) ... total waste of money
Maybe another way to help explain because no matter who says what it doesn’t seem to be landing ... the lady that just came from her house to tesco, via the bus, who just like me and you hasnt been tested ... statistically she has pretty much the same level of risk as the lady who did the same straight from heathrow ... |

Ah the only flaw in that is that just today they have found 30 different strains of COVID-19... so there is a cautionary tale there when coming from different countries. Maybe we should show a little more caution then the woman on the bus eh... |

Do we know how many strains are already in our country?
and did you watch todays briefing where the experts said the impact of people coming into the country at the moment who can spread in terms of numbers vs numbers in the country already spreading is hugely insignificant but they dont rule out any and all options available once we bring existing infection down |

Masked and Distant |
And today's briefing also said...pointless testing incoming people, may not show symptoms for up to 14 days, if at all.
Better to do as we are all being told to do.....stay away from other people. The virus cant spread if we stay away from others, wash our hands and dont stick our dirty fingers in our noses. |

Some people here are obsessed with testing. Why?
First of all, people returning home should be quarantined. If they are infected and return home they will infect other people. Infected people will start to infect others. That's why I think quarantine should apply. For everyone's safety.
That's how it should work and writing about wasting money during quarantine is nonsense. Some of those infected will need hospitalization. But let's save money |

"Just a thought - how did the virus get here in the first place ?"
Thats been covered above already, we could have prevented it by quarantining people coming in back in early february... we missed that opportunity a long time ago and that strategy is no use now |

So we put everyone into quarantine for 2 weeks, then 10 minutes after they leave quarantine they get covid. Let them go home and enjoy the lock down with the rest of us. If they get ill then they'll go to hospital from home not from some quarantine centre. |

You convenient to ignore the explanation of why quarantine makes sense.
This is my opinion on this subject and I have the right to disagree with another.
I have one because such quarantine works in other countries. |

"Some people here are obsessed with testing.
But let's save money
You conveniently ignore all the responses where people explain why quarantine would be a waste
You convenient to ignore the explanation of why quarantine makes sense.
This is my opinion on this subject and I have the right to disagree with another.
I have one because such quarantine works in other countries." I dont kniow why the government waste money on these scientific experts when they could just ask you for free. |

I haven’t ignored it i have challenged it directly a number of times, just because other countries have done it doesn’t mean our circumstances are the same and it will work for us or that they are not just throwing cash at a fruitless exercise to make it look like they are doing something
There are people walking about in masks every day too despite being repeatedly told by the experts its not necessary unless you have symptoms because they are for stopping spreading the illness not catching it and if not used properly you csn actually up your chances because the virus particles will be stuck in it getting breathed in
These people obviously follow your logic.... who cares about the expert advice , i saw someone else doing it so i must be seen to do it too |

Believe it or not some people bought the face masks that do stop it months ago..they know how to fit them and how to sterilise them.
They maybe people who cannot afford to catch it,and cannot stop indoors for 12 weeks.
They maybe the same people who done social distancing long before the government or the experts told them to do so.
The experts as you call them or the scientists have all had differing views on this...so it's hardly likely that we as individuals will all agree.

You might have the same equipment then as the ppe provided to hospitals but a paper mask or fabric mask with a coffee filter inside are serving no purpose other than thinking they are now safe and being more careless
Similar with gloves although they have the opposite effect of protecting the wearer rather than people around them , unless you change them between everything you touch you are still just moving the virus from surface to surface and washing your hands is a better option ... people seem to get annoyed when they see someone without gloves ... the gloves only protect them not you |

On the gloves I agree with you...I carry gel. But I still think wearing any type of mask stops the transmission of the virus. And yes mine are the proper masks |

"I think with all the hotels shut they could make one or two close to the airport to be quarantine hotels for 14 days lockdown...also they pay for the hotel...as they do in china."
They secured the Holiday Inn, Heathrow Airport Ariel in February/March as a venue to be used for incoming passenger quarantine. There were some issues, perhaps we weren't ready as a society then?
Other countries had incoming passengers automatically quarantined too, which is possibly a reasonable precaution, for their own and the publics health, if it's managed appropriately. |

" Well the one the government are using explained it in pretty simple terms yesterday and made sense to me,if you have any links to scientists disproving it under the current circumstances in the uk i would be happy to take a look and maybe change my mind. |

That's not actually true, the gloves only protect anybody for the few seconds you first lit them on, then they are potentially contaminated in exactly the same way your hands wlkld be.
Absolutely pointless
