Should it not be the other way around? Bearing in mind the highest number of cases are in the USA and there appears to be widespread breaking of isolation measures. Mind you, the blessing is that the majority of americans don't own a passport. Good! |

"This is purely political. It’s a way to tap into the population’s entrenched views on outsiders and be “seen to be doing something”. "
Almost as if there's an election coming soon.... |

I quickly read it as immigration to settle, live, get a job (VISA). Stopping that allows American citizens to take employment again short term.
I'd have thought a large part of the economy is dependent on tourism so it would be needed again to get things working as they were before.
I do note details are however sketchy and it could just mean a blanket ban on incomings. |

Exactly. There is very little travel going on anyway at the moment, and the US has very much higher than average number of cases.

That was my first thought too. But then thought that would have little effect. It is people coming in regardless that is the issue. But then not much Trump is doing makes any sense and this is clearly just a signal to his fan base.

Yes, of course it is, in the same way that the $1200 cheques were delayed a few days because Trump wanted his name on each one! |

This is essentially bollox. He's appealing to his base and baiting a trap for Biden. US customs & Immigration services has been closed since mid march. He knows damn well an executive order like this will be challenged and likely overturned by the courts. But it will play well with those Americans worried about Mexicans coming to take their corona virus. |
