Lockdown hands...
Jump to: Newest in thread
My hands have aged about 127 years in lockdown and now look like the Claws of Doom. All that hand washing.
Now every time I look down and see them I shudder
Anyone else the same?
Think will have to sleep wearing gloves full of lard...

"Weirdly why are people suddenly having all this issues ? Have people
Not been washing before this virus occurred ? "
Not as much! Before I was mostly clean with a side of "germs are good for your immune system".
Now not so much. I was already prone to dermatitis, and I can't be as careful with that as I was. |

Quite the opposite.
Mine are the softest they have been since I finished school and incredibly clean without the usual cuts and grazes I pick up in my usual day to day life and hobbies. |

Now not so much. I was already prone to dermatitis, and I can't be as careful with that as I was. ohhhh I see ,,. Need to get some good quality gentle moisturiser and hand / body wash ,,, hope its clears soon for too
I suspect it'll be an issue for awhile, unfortunately. Soap does a number on my skin and I don't use it except on my hands (my body and face wash are non lathering).
I use hand cream when I'm not leaving the house or touching anything that has come into the house recently. I'm getting rashes and even some skin breaking, but needs must." as daft as it sounds , if your not touching things coming into the house since lockdown , you don't need to be so caution
Imo , just general basic hygiene , good luck xx |

Oh, I wash my hands very carefully going out, coming in, elevated toilet hygiene (it was never bad), and when handling groceries, which are the only things I'm bringing in apart from myself. It's enough to make my skin crack, sadly.
My skin sucks |

"Mine are very dry but when I remember I have DoubleBase hand cream that works very well. I just forget to put it on.
Prior to lockdown I wasn't a fan of hand cream, think from when I used to wear contact lenses, but now its preferable to these Hands of Gollum.. " actually it’s not a hand cream but a heavy duty moisturiser that I had on prescription because I suffer with a bit of contact eczema on my hands. I’ve realised detergent is the major cause during lockdown, albeit chilli and garlic aggravate it.
However I have loads of it so I won’t be running out anytime soon. |

Prior to this I didn't have to wash my hands every time I left the house or went shopping or got on public transport.
Fair enough if you did, but my subscription to the Howard Hughes fan club had lapsed... my bad I guess been a chef , it's always drummed into me , wash . Wash , wash ,,, but the way their is no hand wash available in shops etc is mental , but guess everyone stuck piling it
Oh I definitely always washed more handling food than anything else (apart from using the toilet). Now I actively consider what might carry virus. Every fucking thing " yes that's the worry about this bloody virus , seems to live a while on stuff , get some antibacterial spray and spray on items brought in , you should be ok |

I reckon I’m washing my hands about four times more often than I used to. I’m a bugger for not wearing marigolds when cleaning so they get fucked. |

If people are using alcohol based sanitisers regularly, it will strip the fats out of the skin and make it very dry. Most people did not use loads of sanitiser in addition to washing. Also wearing non breathable disposable gloves, as some are doing, can cause skin problems too. |

I suffer from cracking on my thumbs (cos I work so bloody hard) which can be painful doing a manual job, so I avoid the alcohol and use soap and water.
The best hand cream I have come across is O’keefe’s working hands, it’s sold in some chemists and at screwfix.
It’s like lard, but it’s magic.
They also do a foot cream for cracked heels - which is also very good for ladies who suffer with that during the summer months |

Much better now they do it in squeezy tubes rather than the small tubs |

My hands in tip top condition. Been down the allotment spreading manure for a few evenings... who knew it was so good for your skin?
(Is there a tongue in cheek emoji?) |

I'm the opposite, when I was still working in the office I was washing my hands for a lot longer and yes they became dry and red raw, since lockdown, I live alone, I'm working at home, I am barely outside so I really only do a proper hand wash when I come back in. But normal hand washing presumes with soap and hot water. |
