I did my weekly shop yesterday and as per usual I am amazed how much traffic there is around. The weather was great and perfect for getting the rag top down, but surely in these times people wouldn't need the wind in their hair, with the sun glinting off of their raybans? Turns out yeah, they are.

Im no expert, but I keep my windows closed, air con off and air re-circulating in the cabin. I use antibac wipes on the handle before opening the door and use some sanitiser when I get in. We are even being advised not to wash our cars. When I stopped to get fuel there was a guy driving his Lotus 7 replica who was very conscious about social distancing when we were queueing to pay. Maybe his aviator sunglasses grant him immunity? (added to amazon basket just in case)

I am probably being too careful.

Aviators are all the rage this season

Is there such a thing as being too careful these days?

If it makes you feel safe then I'd say not.

I'm not sure how having the top down on a cabriolet is any different to standing in a queue at the shops. Why would you be more susceptible to the virus in a car with the top down?

If I had a cabriolet the roof would be down unless it was raining

And why can't we wash our cars...

My roof's been down every time I've gone out for the past week. No different to standing in a queue at the supermarket virus or germ wise...

Possibly even a help as I believe the virus is destroyed by UV light.

No evidence that uv light from sunlight destroys the virus. Generated UVC wavelength light has been used to disinfect things such as buses in China (each night, post service) but with no humans coming into contact with that light as its harmful to humans. The ozone layer filters out the UVC wavelength light so that it doesn't hit the earths surface.

well actually as you can get pulled if your car has dirty windows or number plate it seems silly. My neighbours washed all 5 cars yesterday.. we had a car wash day too. People just used the other side of the road.

I'd guess they are suggesting that people not use public wash facilities not that they should not wash their cars

I cannot see a soft top making anyone any more or less vulnerable than breathing air outside

In answer to can a person be too careful in these times

Yes one could be needlessly paranoid that an action that cannot increase your risk will cause a risk I could cite 5g

Dettol baths not going into back garden for bbq

Not washing car at home

Locking one's self into a single room with a years supply of pasta bogroll and oxygen

I think generous social distancing 4 m plus and avoiding indoors and ventilation systems with good hand hygiene the absolute best precautions

Being careful thinking and reasoning very very wise

Paranoia potentially harmful????

Why ‘in these times’ can we not drop the tops on our cars and enjoy the wind in our hair as you put it ? Is there now a moratorium being announced that forbids pleasure, happiness, feeling good ?

I’ll drop my roof whenever the weather is good thank you and love feeling the sun on my sunglasses clad face. You stay inside in a dark room feeling miserable if u think that’s the right thing to do
