Peak admission of cases into hospital was 6000 on 4th April so we should have passed peak deaths. Nightingale hospital in London has 'two dozen patients'. Looks like we are post peak and in 2 weeks no. cases should be in the 100's if pattern similar to other countries. Fingers crossed for 3 weeks to lock down end. |

"Just because lock down is over, when is it safe to swing? I'm sure there's others with underlying health problems, in my case, heart, that might want to wait longer, to be sure. "
The virus will be with us for a good while yet, may end up being like hiv, hep b etc..
An asymptomatic person doesn't even know they've got it so that will present particular issues for people who enjoy this aspect.. |

Some form of social distancing will still be in place even after the lockdown has been lifted to avoid a second wave which could be far worse than we are experiencing at the moment. |

They still don’t know enough about this virus to say if people could become reinfected. |

I've always said it will end after six or seven weeks, there is no sense for it to continue longer, of course depending on how many of us have had it and not really had definite symptoms there may be a second burst of cases and the need for a second lockdown, hopefully by then a antibody test will be around by then |

People are still meeting now, at work and in supermarkets, I suspect there will be restrictions on pubs restaurants etc for some time |

Can i ask where your source for this admission data is? I've found lots of historical data but nothing that is particularly "live".
I have been following the deaths rates, and modelled it that we are at, or just past the peak now |

"I dont think a date has been set as yet. Heard the 18th mentioned twice now but not found anything from the government "
Govt meet and decide (not to release lockdown) tomorrow. It is likely they will keep us all where we are for another three weeks and then make another decision.
The infection/hospital admission and death statistics nearer then will give a better indication if the lockdown comes off, or is in some ways reduced at that time.
If the current ‘curve flattening’ holds and starts reducing we might see an easing of restrictions then.........a lot of ifs and maybes but there will be growing pressure to start easing off if the numbers are acceptable.
It will be more clear then.....but there are a lot of buts. |

Whenever it happens, restrictions will be lifted slowly, forever watching the infection rates before moving to the next stage. I think when the government finally allow pubs and restaurants to open, it will be under restrictions. So for instance, booking tables in restaurants, spaces the tables out, no walk ins, limit on number of people in the venue. Pubs that are allowed to open, may only be able to do so if they sell food and people will be expected to book.
There is no way the government will just allow a mass opening of public facilities. It will be a slow and controlled process. Swinging clubs and pubs will be amongst the last to be allowed to open for walk ins and unlimited numbers. |

Just had an argument with four blokes who had obviously agreed to meet up for a chat/drugs or whatever as it is a long way away from where you'd go.
Stood in a huddle about 2ft from each other on a path expecting me to walk through the middle of them !

I almost had an argument when I was queuing up to get served in my local shop. I was standing two meters behind the customer in front when a guy wearing gloves and a mask, stood being me almost touching me.

Are you actually serious? You can't be with that post . Just because a couple restrictions may be removed in May ie a slow return to certain non essential work with strict social distancing in place doesn't mean anything will change . Where do you think the virus is going ? You think it's just going to disappear into thin air? Nothing will significantly change until a vaccine is found and distributed which by all accounts is a minimum of 18 months away. Until then, social distancing has to be a way of life and any social interaction will be risky and that of an intimate nature will be the equivalent to playing Russian roulette. This virus is , as we now see, can be deadly for even younger and healthier people and I'm afraid it ain't going anywhere |

Crossing the road can be deadly, if you dont want to take any risk then it's very simple, stay in. Others realise that the virus will needed to be caught by most and the huge majority will not be badly affected, the only reason for lockdown us to slow admissions to hospital for the small percentage, it's not because it can be avoided, for all you know you could have already had it. When its lifted in three weeks I doubt pubs or clubs etc will open for a while, we need an antibody test so the gov can see how many have been infected and how many are left before we reach herd immunity |

Like posters said, its not going to go back to normal anytime soon. There will be no mass events likes music or sports. Retail will probably be the first they will open up. Don't what they'll do about mass transport. Distance and remote learning might get education going again. Restaurants will probably have to half their capacity |

I disagree. It made sense when the scientific expert on the podium last week stated to watch for plateauing hospital admission numbers - that's happening now. Following which we'll have our peak fatalities. So 2-3 weeks from the beginning of the plateau (a few days ago?) means the peak has yet to come. You cannot assess peak by a day's numbers due to all sorts of variations. |

If you look at new cases they peaked on 4th April.. death rates should fall 2 weeks from that date so soon. On Social distancing all measures are a waste if time if they keep the tube running ..go on it in rush hour and see ! Controversial but look at Sweden. No lock down restaurants open and far fewer cases than the UK as a proportion of the population. However a slow opening up is likely from mid may ..given the above, any later we won't have an economy left. If you are in poor health or over 65 worth staying locked down a lot lot longer |

It’s very difficult to compare Sweden with the UK. They have a similar population to London but Sweden is nearly twice the size of UK hence a much lesser density of population. Sweden has a much higher death rate per million population than Norway and Denmark who did lock down. |

Sweden is now possibly staring down a barrel. The people trusted the government in not implementing lockdown but not so much now. It's spreading and the original plan for 'herd immunity' is on the verge of failure |

We just don't know. The current lockdown should be feeding through with lower infection rates but the government hasn't given their criteria for knowing when it will end.
They may watch what happens in the other places ending it, to observe the effects. |

My friends from Germany saying their figures is reflected on more efficient testing and accurate recording of deaths. Their health care is more sufficient for the critically sick. If only our government didn't spend last 15 years destroying our nhs, would we be still in this mess with such high numbers? People's behaviour or government failings? |

Seems unlikely to me.

This is exactly it. The government know the lockdown has a limit of 6 - 9 weeks before the British public have enough and start to rebel.
We were always going to get the usual morons who can't even abide by the laws during normal times who would ignore the lockdown. A few more weeks though and many of the people talking about how important the lockdown is and 'doing there bit' will start to crack and rebel themselves. Unfortunately this isn't the same generation of people who lived through the second world war. People are far too selfish now.
Throw in the fact that the economy simply will not survive it and the government will have no option to start opening things up. With the new icu beds and additional staff that have returned it will be very much mission accomplished and I think they have done an incredible job during the lockdown.
Im not suggesting we will go back to normal for a while though. Schools will open people will go back to work and the shops will open back up along with most restaurants although I think social distancing measures will still dictate limited numbers in each of those.
Pubs will be a while yet I think. Unfortunately I think we have to hope that between now and the vaccine they find better ways to treat the virus in the hope it saves lives as there needs to be a balance between safety and also people able to live their lives.
My grandad is in his 80's and said he would rather have three months left if it was three months seeing friends and family rather than 18 months cooped up on his own.
Its hard to disagree with him. |

"Whenever it happens, restrictions will be lifted slowly, forever watching the infection rates before moving to the next stage.

Nope, not until seven or so days after the new infection rate stops.
The decline in new cases only proves that lockdown is working to slow it down but there's no cure so until the entire population has had it or has immunity to it curfew measure will persist. |

Even if they do lift the lock down, it won't be back to business as usual because that would simply mean another spike in deaths. There may be a partial reopening and then another lock down if the virus begins to spread again, and we could go on in that manner until and if a vaccine is developed and is widely available.
There's no point in hoping for a quick return to how things were, because that won't happen for the foreseeable future.
Like her or loath her, Nadine Dorries had it right when she said there's no way out without a vaccine.
Well, I suppose there is one way out, but that will be at the expense of hundreds of thousands of deaths in this country alone, and that could include any one of us. The next 18 months to two years are going to be grim. |

People will have to be a lot more careful.

Where’s the evidence of a second wave in China? WHO reports no deaths and only 52 new cases in the latest report. "
The CCP really has done an excellent job in their management of this pandemic. When are they going to share with the rest of the world the secrets to keeping the numbers so low for a country of 1.3 billion people. Its remarkable for a population so densely populated in cities that they have hardly any new cases now. Whilst in Europe the numbers are still rising daily even though under strict lockdown rules. I just can't understand why these strict restrictions are not working for us. |

Possibly because we didn't do an excellent job in managing this pandemic. We were too slow off the mark, and haven't done rigorous tracing and testing. |

Because they monitor your every movement with app on citizens phones.
China's population are linked to their mobile phones like you and I are linked to a nation insurance number. You can't buy a phone there without ID.
That goes for signing in and out of neighbourhood and even into shopping centers.
1984 isnt a book of fiction their, its a blueprint for social control
And the lockdown has not been lifted there. Schools haven't repoend and residents in some areas, such as certain provinces of wuhan are under more stringent lockdown measures than Europe.
Want to fly into mainland china from Europe or the USA?
Sure spend 2 weeks inside an isolation hotel at your own expense wich the ccp will decide which one it will be upon your arrival. During which point any time you can be thrown and sent back at their decision.
Their measures work becuase chinas political power is a dictatorship. You don't get to decide what measures they use. They tell you.
There are people in west who won't even vaccinate their children against know diseases with established vaccinations.
Do you think anyone in the West would stand for having to download an app on their phone just to walk into a supermarket.
They are more in control of the virus their because dictatorships are... More in control period.
Thats not to say they havent completely fudged their numbers and lied but that's nothing new for the ccp |

Have you even looked at the numbers? It is working, it was never going to happen overnight, it takes weeks. "
Well it hasn't been working were I am, and its a strictly enforced lockdown here. The infection rate goes up around 5000 everyday and we are not even lifting restrictions until the earliest 11 th May, that date could even change for a later date. |

Because China’s lockdown is stricter. We still have idiots having parties and gatherings in parks. We’re also allowing flights with 15,000 a day into the country. China stopped all flights.
I deal with China through my work and they went in to lockdown before their Chinese New Year. Some parts of Asia are still in lockdown.

Lockdown will take ages to be lifted completely, we've still got more daily deaths than anywhere else in the world except the USA, the numbers aren't going down yet. We shoudl have locked down much earlier, look at how well that worked for Greece, fewer deaths in that whole country than my county has had. Our govt's handling of this has been appalling. |

Yes I understand they have a traffic light system on their phones. Opening the borders with neighbouring provinces was to let stuck people out of Wuhan, but were obviously clear of the virus. As I understand it they have lockdown again.
No I wouldn't trust a single word that comes officially out of China, as you say the regime there is good at keeping tabs on its citizens and enforcing control. |
