so all these big temporary hospitals are not being built for use now they are being built for the second bigger wave in the autumn months .... said a friend .... the nhs is busy but not yet at capacity in most areas so it kinda makes sense now as to why they are still building temporary hospitals and morgues ... is the second wave gonna be bigger ??
its not adding up admissions are slowing the curve is happening yet it seems we are waiting for something bigger they are still wanting everything.... i really hope not but no hope of a vaccine until at least next year...
what do you think .... building for a second wave or just being over cautious .... |

I think the hospitals and morgue are just in case. Imagine the outcry if the government didn't do this, and things took a turn for the worse.
I thought that Nightingale Excel had started taking patients. |

As the UK was determined not to test properly, unless admitted to hospital or after death, they have remained somewhat ignorant about how many people are infected.
Hospitals in places were also forecast to have no spaces, if infection rates didnt fall, so the temp hospitals were possibly to be needed from about now. Possibly. It's tougher forecasting with patchy figures, due no testing.
A second wave could come but the first is still here. It's likely to reduce its rate of increase or fall, if social distancing gives results.
With exponential growth in infection rates doybling the numbers of people every 3 days or so, it's easy to see how substantially more beds could have been urgently needed.
If there's a later rise, after a decline, it's likely to be after isolation relaxes or ends. We started it very late.
How long lockdown continues is going to be determined by how the next few weeks pans out. Continued lockdown puts conference venues etc out of business until further notice.
Unless total lockdown is implemented, a huge drive to test everyone and contacts of infected people are traced, the uk will continue with infections for months or longer. |

They could use the Nightingale hospitals for coronavirus only patients and use the pre-existing hospitals for the non-infected 'usual' procedures like operations, treatments etc until a vaccine is produced |

"Maybe they can use all these new hospitals for mental health after all this. As there was already a lack of beds and facilities and that was before all the added cases now presenting x"
Unlikely, they are all being hosted in conference centres, which will go back to their usual purpose once they can. |

There will definitely be a second wave but not the way you expect it, cities are suffering right now but geography and lockdown means rural areas are way behind the curve, when the cities are unlocked there will still be dormant or even active cases, those that have had the virus may become carriers, this will then see a wave spreading through the rural areas, kids will bring it home from school and so in, there will be little immunity in these areas as they didn’t receive much exposure in the first instance.
The hospitals are definitely temporary, the Excel, NEC and the like cannot trade whilst they exist, be honest would you go there for a concert while it was still active as a hospital, I think there is a lot of misinformation spread through fear and speculation, whilst I don’t for one moment think the world has been told the full story, I will wait to pass judgement. |

They are saying it could be in existence by then but realistically 12 months before production could be scaled to have it available to all |

Wow some of you in here are actually willing to take a untested vaccine?
Vaccines have years of testing before its released.
Even bill gates said on BBC1 the weekend that theres going to be a "trade off" of rushing through a vaccine and that will be the saftey measures.
Theres no telling what side effects this may have in the long term.
Erm no thanks ill let my own immune system build up resistance to this.
Can't believe some people are queing up to take some vaccine thats getting rushed through with no long term testing and is a saftey risk.
Id sooner take the risk my body building up its own resistance to it.
Question is will these vaccines be mandatory and if you dont take it then you dont get to rejoin society or able to join gatherings, or work, or leave country.
Guess we will find out when it comes in 12-18 months |
