firms using virus as pr stunt

is it just me that feels a lot of firms are using virus as a public relations opportunity to big up there companies? They offer free stuff but paste it all over facebook and the like saying how great they are. If you want to help then help but don't have to tell everyone just how great you are giving a few pizzas out or something. |

Maybe it's the best was to spread the info to the target audience?
I felt that with my letter about travel my company had thrown in some unnecessary adjectives to big themselves up tbh. |

Yes, it's a turn-off for me, akin to bragging out of misfortune. Very unpalatable.
They'll likely be writing things off against tax anyway, so it's not altruism but opportunistic freeriding on others suffering |

Companies will be damned if they do and damned if they don't.
Taxi firms in this area are offering free rides to work for NHS staff. It's great publicity for them but it is also a very nice gesture in my opinion.
A lot of people are virtue signalling like crazy at the moment.

I've said this about the free food etc that we receive at the hospital. While it's all very nice the cynic in me says it is all freeish publicity for them.
The NHS has always worked hard and dine great things. Brings me back to the point I've just made in another thread that it'd be nice if the appreciation we are getting now lasts because it wasn't there from alot of quarters a month ago. |

Strange then. Have done the job 25 years but can only recall getting freebies the last 3 weeks. |

Seemed to be more 10-15% discount. Free delivery for some fast food, etc.
Maybe better if all acts were cash towards PPE but also some pizza kitchens for example might just want to be a part of things. And as with clapping atm hopefully we can all be a part of protecting the NHS AC.
I feel the OP is a tad cynical but I suppose that's the way the world was/is and sadly will always be. |

If companies do something for the benefit of others, particularly front end essential service providers, they can big themselves up to the mountain tops for all I cate.
Even if they'll be offsetting it against their tax, A) they don't have to help and B) they've still got to spend the money in the first place, before they can claim it back.
Personally, I don't care where the support for front end essential service providers comes from, as long as it's reaching them.

Organisation's that offer help to key worker's should be applauded. When people write like this perhaps they might think twice next time. If they want a bit of pr in return that might just help them to get through this too. Or we can have a dig at them until they stop offering help. |

This is nothing new. Although I am cautious about drawing comparisons with wartime, it’s about the best comparison available.
Tobacco companies sent cigarettes to frontline troops. Other examples were: Nestle condensed milk, Bourneville chocolate and many more.
I don’t see why it should be a problem and if those receiving it have such an issue, they can refuse it.

"Heinz are now doing delivery’s, only free to NHS staff.
NHS staff particularly nurses would like decent pay...thanks in advance "
As a key worker myself I understand this |

Absolutely.
Anything that helps front line staff get through the day should be applauded, not slated.

I think you are confusing NHS discounts that indeed have been around for years with all the free curries and pizzas getting sent to wards now. That certainly hasn't happened until the last few weeks |

As I'm oft of saying on the fora, it's frequently the politics of envy that drives shite like this..... |

am aware of a company that has been doing some work at a healthcare facility that bigged themselves up saying they were working to help prepare for covid but failed to say they were getting well paid to do the job. was like they were doing it for free and being hero`s. |

Are heinz able to increase your pay? The 2 are unrelated and they are doing the only thing they offer as help within their capacity |
