Following a career change, I’m now a real life London cabbie.
Over the last couple of weeks, Uber have given out free rides to NHS staff and I’ve had quite a few of them in the back of my cab. All are frazzled, one Dr had had CV19 and was returning to his A&E department.
They wanted to know if people were listening to the lockdown and I said in the main they have. So as the lockdown has progressed I’ve taken to asking people where they’re off to.
Some have legitimate journeys, one woman told me she was off to her cousins for a sleepover, another guy had spent the day with a friend doing university work together and wanted to go home. Today a guy was off to see his friend for the day at his place.
None of those are anywhere near essential journeys, so I’ve told them to get out as I’m not driving them.
I’ve reported each rider and explained why. The apps are treating it seriously as they’ve said they will investigate and ban them if necessary. Be good to hear other fabbers views.
I’m doing the right thing, I hope the other cab and taxi drivers aren’t taking everyone without question, thinking of the lost income  |

Well the student went straight back to his app and tried to rebook a journey. Got me again  so I declined the journey.
The others will have probably tried to do the same and change their story about needing a cab... |

I think you are absolutely doing the right thing. Lots of people would have just thought of the money and have taken them anyway. Unless the idiots take this seriously lots more people are going to die unnecessarily and we are going to end up having this lockdown extended much longer than any of us want! |

I do believe in letting people use their brain and make a choice. People know if they are ill or not and if the journey they make is safe.
O.P. Have you had a test for Covid19 to show you are not a spreader ?

If the fare was the doctor retuning to work..they wouldn't be a need to..as the only way the doctor would be returning is after they are clear... |
