Government minister visits parents
Jump to: Newest in thread
It's perhaps not a big surprise that a government minister has been found visiting his parents, who live half an hours drive away.
Apparently he was delivering medicine and food. Their locals had been a making food deliveries to the m, so they weren't likely malnourished. |

I guess he was doing exactly the same as Labour MP Steven Kinnock - delivering essential medication for his elderly parents - as per government guidelines . (only difference being that Kinnock was seen socialising in the garden with his parents without medicines and essentials , where Jenrick actually had medicines and supplies and left them in the front garden, and then departed)
Funny The Guardian failed to mention the Steven Kinnock incident, which he also received a warning from South Wales police for...
Low level shit stirring journalism. |

Simple fact is most folk will do things for family despite the risks.
Is there anyone who can say that they have complied 100% with everything that has been requested / instructed? |

Yes, my Wife and I and also my Mother In Law. But I bet your bottom dollar that we will catch this disease due to some other wanker not following the guidelines. |

Funny, pharmacy2u with the help of Royal Mail have delivered my medication to my door. Didn't need my kids to deliver it.
These people all have an excuse to justify their actions. |

Yes I have.
Two of my children and two of my grandchildren live within a 15 minute walk. Birthdays, mother's day have come and gone and I've not seen them.
My youngest had the virus and I was unable to visit.
Sometimes it's not all about what you want, but some people will never get that. |

They are rules. We are being asked to stay in to save lives of others and your own relatives and save the NHS from being overloaded.
This is what is wrong with this country at the moment, people doing exactly what they want or thinking it doesn't apply to them |

Hands up here. I have twice been to see a lady friend about 10 miles away. Both times to deliver supplies including PPE that she couldnt get. She is an independent, self employed carer so cannot get stuff through an "organisation" or company etc.
Both times left on doorstep and had a short chat at a few metres distance.
Similar to what this minister did, from what I gather delivering essentials is allowed. |

Exactly, and depending on who it is, depends on whether they get away with it or not. It seems he also went to his house where his family where because " it was his family home "
A health expert in Scotland did the same and resigned because of the outrage from others

Oh I'm sticking to the guidelines... but I'm in the minority of people I know. Although yes I guess I'm only just within them... like I go the back road way to the shops or people I'm supporting.. just so I can have a drive that cheers me up...
I know I've not just got shopping when I've been shopping.. today for instance i grabbed chairs for my garden. Paint to finish off the house and bbq stuff.. but I did it in the same shopping trip and only one I've done this week for myself.
I'm going out by myself... but I carry on my carers duties. Sometimes that means I can't stick to the instructions with that |

I would agree that there are some grey areas that lack clarity regarding what are guidlines and what are rules.
I just do not believe though that anyone can apply everything 100% of the time. |

Yes he shouldn’t have driven there, but you get the impression someone wants to stir it up for him. What’s their motivation? To get him fired? Some kind of oneupman ship?
A local fireman told me there’s been loads of bbqs on a particular estate with people have their mates round. That’s more of a spreader than what that minister did. Neither of these examples should have happened, but everyone acts like they’ve never done anything wrong in their life. |

Yes visited his dad to celebrate his birthday taking essential supply of birthday cake. And the tone of The Guardian piece is subtly different to the Jenrick piece.
Has there been a thread on here about the Kinnock infringement ?

Yes 100%
There are always people trying to justify their reasons. People choose to follow the rules or not and that’s the problem.
I follow the rules. |

Yes! This should be the Answer from everyone - it's not hard. I go out once a week to shop (going only to one super market), I go alone, I get food for a relative and deliver I on my return (adding 30 minutes to my journey. I drop there shopping of on their doorstep, I don't stop to talk and I come straight home. I love to cycle long distances but doing so would be stretching the once a day fitness away from home rule so I've got my turbo trainer out and use that instead.
These rules aren't hard to follow. I wouldn't want to think that I had the virus and passed it on to someone who has then died (whilst putting the NHS under further strain.
Oh so simple, stay in unless you need food or are providing an essential service (I'm a NHS Volunteer) and wash your hands - we ain't much of a nation if we can't achieve that.m |

Ok having read both now, neither favoured one or the other.
What I will say is, the minister was the one telling us all to stay home as part of his job when he was doing one of the daily updates by the Government so he has less of an excuse as to what he did.
Do as I say and not as I do seems to be happening a lot lately |

Jenrick should have found someone else to deliver his parents medication and Kinnock shouldn’t have visited his dad to celebrate his birthday

This politician, a government Minister, has been insisting that the public comply with the rules to not go out. It's very simple to get medicines on prescription delivered to the home, including same day delivery - it doesn't need a personal long trip to do this and especially when locals are doing this too.Any type of politician should be 100% watertight in their adherence to the law. They should have to declare which Doctor prescribed and why it required almost 100 miles of travel - the details of this are important,as just his saying he dropped medicine off doesn't clarify what was going on.Eprescriptions can be retrieved by other pharmacies, if the local village Dr had sent it to the pharmacy 40 or more miles away, so his story sounds suspiciously wrong in many ways.
As for ourselves, I like most others am completely abiding by the law.I am a key worker, without PPE, delivering health care and aware of the risks that people who aren't respecting the ways to limit risks could individually be responsible for hundreds of infections alone. He's certainly a hypocrite, having made so many videos that he's posted insisting that people don't go out. Those in authority have to be particularly above reproach. The Scottish health adviser did the right thing quickly, resigning from her position. I'd personally feel that I had let down the people that I serve and be ashamed.
Most of us are completely following the rules that his government has implemented, we're not trying to find loopholes but solutions. |
