Even during this pandemic other vital operations etc are still going on in hospitals. There is now a shortage of blood.

If you have or have not previously given blood then get on to blood.co.uk and do your bit.

I hadnt donated for a while but just made an appointment for next Sunday.

Its win, win as it gets you out of the house for a while too!!

Have they made it easier.

Was a right ball ache when I tried last time. Could not find any free spots. I have quite a rare blood type so they can have as much as I can healthily give.

Last time I went they told me that mine is special and goes to neonatal. Each donation goes to 5 babies.

That made me smile.

Me too especially as I have the "best" blood. O neg is given to patients when they cannot test them and don't know their group.

Hope they're testing that blood for covid too now, before giving it to anybody else.

I have rare AB+ blood, I know how much in demand it is.

I used to give blood but can't because of my heart and my medication.

I did at the time I wasn’t going to just turn up. I registered and then could never get a spot. Which is a positive thing I suppose.

Will log on and see if I can find a local one.

Oh, apparently they don't as no evidence coronavirus can be transmitted by blood donations.

I used to love giving blood, liked watching it coming out. I'm O- too but I've been treated with blood products so they don't want mine now.

I could donate tomorrow if anything. However my nearest venue didn't even come up in the search for the next 5 months, the next date at a venue further away is in June and is fully booked (session is for 4 hours only) and the next one available on Isle of Wight is beginning of August. That puts me off from looking to donate (used to). It's almost as if they don't want it.

If there was the shortage - wouldn't there be more venues and/or dates available?

I had a similar situation when I moved to where I live. I'm on the border of two counties and live in one but closer to the main towns (and work) in another. When I phoned up the operative was adamant that I needed to drive 40 miles rather than 4 and when I refused I was told that "I was obviously making excuses"

I didn't go for years and then a friend's dad needed loads and she asked people to go in his memory.

I now try to book in advance and get into a routine.

I wish I could. I used to, and have made 50 donations and got my gold heart badge and certificate. Not long after my 50th I had to have 4 blood transfusions, so can no longer donate.

They are begging us to do so. Because of moving and work I hadn't given for about 18 months...needed a kick up the ass. Only a few to go for my gold badge...

Dont forget that if like me you have A- blood that you can also donate platelets which are suitable for all blood types and you can donate more often, once a month rather than every three months. It takes a bit longer to take the donation but its a really good thing to do.

If they don't have that blood, O neg can be used. Only 15% of world's population have neg blood groups.

Nah, but YOU might be . I understand the negative factor in relation to future pregnancies, but not the groups. O neg does not affect the blood of the recipient. The negative aspect is the absence of the rhesus protein found in 85% of all humans. I believe it's named after the Rhesus monkey.

Would happily, but not sure most people who play on fab can tick all the boxes.

You cannot give if:-

- You are a man who has had oral or anal sex with a man or men, with or without protection, in the last 3 months

- You are a person who in the past 3 months has had sex with a man or men who have had oral or anal sex with a man or men, with or without protection

So any bi guys, even if had a safe oral only, is excluded.

Seeing how many emails we get from "fab straight" guys saying they are bi but blatently lie, then not sure many frequent players can be 100% sure they aren't in the second category.

The current rules are an improvement on a few years ago and we could probably now slot in a time now! Used to be 12mths/ever didn't it?

But even so, makes it difficult to give blood with 100% certainty if you play frequently

It would be the same exclusion for women who had sex with bi or fab straight men. You have no way of knowing what the person is up to when not with you, so would have to assume any fab meet is bi and had sex with someone else just before having it with you.

This goes for everyone, not just Fabbers, unless you have a 24 hour tracker on your partner. It isn't just swingers who can have multiple partners!
