Government financial help

I am unable to work at the moment because afew people i worked directly with fell ill with coronavirus symptoms but obviously unable to be tested. I am on a zero hour contract so far as I am aware, all I would get is statutory sick pay and possible help with paying the rent. Anyone going through the same situation?

When the PM and chancellor stood in front of the cameras and swore to stand begind each and everyone of us I thought that was wonderful and posted as much.

It was with some disappointment that I discovered that this support did not cover the directors of LLCs. It seems that even in these times the war against this sector remains unabated.

For those who show no sympathy, I have no sympathy.

For those who believe there is only one package of support that they do not qualify for it is worth noting, and fully exploring, there are many different types of direct and in-direct support that has been introduced, which if considered carefully will help.

Many firms jumped on furlough however realisation is dawning that they will not survive past furlough so staving off the inevitable

This is correct in that there are lots of different schemes depending upon people’s situation.

Anyone unsure, or even if you thought you were sure last week as things have changed, then please contact your local citizens advice bureau. They have dedicated phone lines to help everyone affected by this and highly trained advisers.

Have you been furloughed? If so, yesterday’s guidance to employers is “ Employees can be on any type of employment contract, including full-time, part-time, agency, flexible or zero-hour contracts” - clearly states your employer can furlough and pay you.

When the chancellor said loans would be available to the Business Interuption Scheme we all cheered.

Where is this money?

Banks receiving their funding at 0% interest and then lending it on at 30%. Directors being asked to provide collateral?

Is that a response?

Now we have banks undermining the intentions of the government to the detriment of the country and their punishment is.... Nothing.

OP as suggested above find out if the firm you work for can furlough you. If you not as long as your NI history is ok you should be able to claim SSP or ESA. They are about 95 and 80 quid a week respectively they have just gone up for the first time in many years. If you don't have savings of over 16k you should be able to claim some help with your rent. The other alternative is to claim universal credit. It almost certainly be several weeks before you recieve anything.

This is correct in that there are lots of different schemes depending upon people’s situation.

There are also lots of other organisations who will act in a sign posting capacity. They are free and can help. (check your local LEP)

There is more than one option available to businesses - use as many of them as you can to ease the current burden.

We need to go back to why these bailouts were introduced in the first place. They were to encourage people to stay at home and stop spreading the disease.

By ostracising an entire sector of the community from this campaign he is sending them out to work. Does he think they will stay at home and starve? Yes directors can furlough on their basic £719. But they mostly are paid through dividends on profits they no longer make because of debtors who cannot/will not pay them.

Have you tried contacting your local council for council tax and housing benefits? Also try doing an online benefits check is always a good idea. I've used the turn2us one.

Initially yes, but there has been some adjustments by the chancellor and new instructions to the banks which should now allow business owners to feel more confident about making use of what is available.

I do think you cant just rely on a one prong strategy to deal with current issues... there are lots of support mechanisms being opened up, and the best chance to get through this is to utilise all or as many as possible.
