I been thinking, c19 is only the start of issues in 2020, I'm also a little concerned about what follows, the fallout afterwards as we all know this is about to cause one hell of a recession globally. We've already seen a number of companies call in administration.
Hopefully we can all pull together for the good of us all. |

I hope we are not just at the beginning of a long disaster |

You’re spot on, this will take almost a generation to fully pay back what’s happening right now. Just my luck I buy a house 3 months ago to develop and sell on, if the housing market doesn’t crash 20%+ I’ll be shocked |

I’m worrying about exactly the same thing.

An insolvency pratice. I use a business networking site ( L***edIn) and the number of people offering business support and help getting government backed loans is astonishing not to mention the vultures using the crisis to plug their cloud communications business or simply to post a cringe worthy ""Thank you to our amazing team at this time...." when they could just send an email to them but I guess that wouldn't get them free publicity,. |

It'll hide all the negative impacts of Brexit though too.
What would previously have been blamed on that will now be masked by this. But hey - Boris is still adamant that we'll be out at the end of the year.
Priorities, eh.......

Hmmm. I’m very much a remainer. However, I’m not sure that this won’t be a bigger shock to the EU than Brexit. The worst affected countries are Spain and Italy. Their already shaky economies are going to be on the floor. Will Germany and France really want to prop them up? |

It'll be an issue for the world, including the EU.
But they'd have been less impacted by brexit than us.
Now everyone's fucked. Corona is the great economic leveller.

It's not going to be an easy road. The government is trying it's best and the cost of running the country in lockdown is huge. Millions of people on benefit before this time and millions have come back from all over the world to join on benefit.Lots of companies shut down,no payment of tax and staffs on 80% wages and companies that are operating in this pandemic situation on tax relief. Some high street shops still got to pay rent some amounting to 65 to 100,000 per annum. America has pumped in 2.2trillion still no much difference rather unemployment on increase. So when this is over every country will be fighting to survive but then trade is gona be shit.Cost of living will increase and banks will struggle too. I pray the world heals and I pray we humans understand too our actions have great impact on our environment. We're battling covid 19 and next will be the radiation impact of 5g
Priorities, eh.......

We could be paying for this for far longer depending on how long it goes on for.

We never had any financial responsibility for the economies of Spain, Italy or anywhere else when we were still in the EU.

Yes, I fear there will be a long recession and We will be paying for this for decades to come. The government somehow needs to reboot the economy.
The only way I can see this happening is if we test test test for c19.
Imagine if the entire population could take a test every morning, you could then narrow down the risks very quickly. Those who have had c19 or dont have it can go back out to work, back to bars and restaurants and start spending again. Those who have stay in in isolation until they are clear and then can get out and work and more importantly spend. Those at risk must stay in isolation, I am afraid, until a vaccine.
Clearly daily testing impossible and impractical, but, and here's my point, you use testing as the tool to reboot the economy by allowing those who don't have c19 to re engage in economic activity.
The current lockdown is a very blunt instrument and is not sustainable. |

Recession?
Already there, in it. This will result in a depression, this will take a decade to recover, all those companies gone/going need replacing. Those government bailouts will need to be repaid too in taxes for a start....the economic fallout looks stark. |

A lot of the 'headline' companies were already at a point where they were already vulnerable to collapse if their cash flow was interrupted for more than a few days anyway.
Latest one I've seen is Debenhams - a business that went into Administration in 2019 but carried on trading.

This will be much more than a recession, so much is going to change. Gold and Crypto are already looking like the new currencies as they resilient to hyper inflation. The careers of the best generation could be very different to what they had planned, this could be the catalyst to a demise in the reliance on capitalism that many believe was needed anyway. Watch places like New Zealand, their thinking is way ahead. |

I'm no financial expert, but it seems to me that 'currency' is an artificial construct and, if the entire world is going to have a recession, pressing the 'reset button' to put things back the way they were beforehand would benefit the world in genEtal.
As I said though, I'm no financial expert... |

You dont think there is a moral dimension to this?
The NHS has been starved of funds and as a consequence of the current situation is struggling to cope.
In the midst of this a member of the same government is exploiting the situation to make money.

Has he made a policy decision to benefit himself? "
Absolutely. You bet he has. Look at his voting record. Look at the work the ERG did in promoting brexit as a good example. And look at how he personally stands to make a shit tonne of cash.
If you're comfortable with people like him, there are many he just makes a good example, mixing business and personal profit with politics then what can anyone say. |

"This will cause economic problems for decades to come.
We've only just finished paying for world war two!
who did we borrow from for ww2
America.
Some people are already making a killing from this.
Jacob Rees-Moggs investment firm is busy making a shit tonne of cash off businesses suffering from the Coronovirus. Ontop of the big bucks he's earned currency trading due the Brexit.
Be a shit investment firm if it wasn’t trying to make cash.
You dont think there is a moral dimension to this?
The NHS has been starved of funds and as a consequence of the current situation is struggling to cope.
In the midst of this a member of the same government is exploiting the situation to make money.
How much funding does the NHS need? I’m not talking about now, I mean in normal times
You would need to ask an expert on that.A lot I'd say?
Is £140 billion a lot?
It depends on highly you value the health of our population I'd say?"
Enough to put a price on it...or should it be a bottomless pit? |

If you were JRM what would you do?
He’s a shareholder in an investment firm it’s their job to make money. They are not directly responsible for funding the NHS. Nor are any other rich people.
The responsibility for that is the government.
People involved in business like this shouldn't be able to stand for election to government. Otherwise they will make policy decisions to benefit themselves.
IE JRM.

I don’t know much about his voting record. Like
I said he’s odious
Can you link his voting record to investments that Somerset Capital have made? |

Its funding has been cut by over £850 in 5 years between 2015 and 2020.
Are you suggesting the NHS is awash with cash? |

"I been thinking, c19 is only the start of issues in 2020, I'm also a little concerned about what follows, the fallout afterwards as we all know this is about to cause one hell of a recession globally. We've already seen a number of companies call in administration.
Hopefully we can all pull together for the good of us all. "
Fear not the stock market accounted for this a few weeks back. Hence the 30% reduction in the value of companies to reflect the potential impact on current and future earnings of companies. |

Every year since inception has seen more funding than the previous one. I’m not suggesting anything other than it is not starved of funds. |

Also important to not think of government borrowing as one country lending to another.
That's not how it works. The Marshall plan after wwii was different to normal government debt.
For example a lot of Italian debt is owned by Italians. Through investments and pension schemes and companies.
The UK government borrows mainly from
UK pension funds/insurance companies (29%)
Private corporations / other financial institutions
UK building societies. (e.g. building societies buy government gilts to invest their savings to get a decent return.)
UK Banks
UK Private investors
Foreign investors (foreign banks and foreign investment firms (2018 approx 20%)
Bank of England Asset Purchase facility (Quantitative easing) |

And every year the gmnt has been getting more tax.
You wouldnt say an £850 million reduction is significant?
They are treating more people with less resources.
Have a look at the mental health services in particular.

Demand for healthcare is virtually unlimited.
Therefore the only limit on health care is the price.
In the UK because the price is not bourne by the person demanding it the a queuing system (waiting lists) or a rationing system (NICE) are used as a substitute for a pricing mechanism. |

There hasn’t been any reduction, funding just hasn’t risen at pre recession rates.
I’m not saying they aren’t stretched but equally any business has to prioritise it’s needs and spending. For too long the NHS has been awash with non clinical staff earning more than those patient facing. As for procurement and some contracts in place they beggar belief.
