So I saw a thing on Reddit that said that the Japanese government had swxisws to exclude sex workers from support during the coronavirus situation as it considers them 'unworthy of receiving public funds':

This made me wonder what the situation was in this country - obviously, it'd be difficult to practise social distancing if you're working as an escort, so presumably the choice would be to either keep working, putting your health and that our your clients at risk, or to stop for the duration. If someone decided to stop, would they be entitled to support from the government? I have to admit, I've no idea whether escorts pay tax or would be able to provide proof of their earnings, so I thought I'd ask here.

Yes, that would sound about right. I would guess that their ability to claim would be the same as any other self employed person (I.e a valid tax return and average of the previous 3 years earnings or furlough themselves thru their Ltd Company?)

I'd rather defer to those who actually do sex work but this is an important question

I can’t see most street workers paying tax ,so they wouldn’t be eligible for help

If a sex worker has registered their income then they pay taxes.

Cam models most are registered in the UK and pay taxes. If you get caught not paying its the same punishment as for any other type of business not declaring income and paying tax on it.

Declaring the work means you're self employed which will disrupt benefits. If you don't earn enough on slow days basically tough shit. Which is why most do camwork to supplement their work income than relying solely on it. Some cam workers do extremely well some don't it's all about their appeal. It's not an ideal industry to rely on for income be it escorting or cam work, especially cam work as you can work 10 hours and barely make a penny other days can work an hour and have satisfactory payout for it. So relying solely on that income and registering you're self employment is risky. The government makes a pretty penny on some of the most successful cam workers. Even being an internet "trender" have to declare the income.

As I discovered even making stuff as a jewellery craft hobbyist more than a specific amount of sales in a month then have to declare it as income since it becomes a business not a hobby in their eyes.
