I don’t want to see any premier league football club furloughing non playing staff.
If clubs are still paying 70% of players salary I am sure the 30% will more than cover the non playing staff wages - absolutely no need to use Government money

Presumably the gmnt will be asking other well off sectors off society to make similiar sacrifices?

Would add that before Hancock used them as a deflection perhaps and the media had a go that they the players were already organising something..

Yes. What the players do with their money is up to them - if they wish to donate back to the club or donate to charity that’s absolutely fine and it’s their choice .
This doesn’t get their clubs off the hook from taking money which they really don’t need to. |

Newcastle and spurs already have so it's been said. But mike Ashley is a complete moron!! He wanted to keep sports direct open apparently they're essential!!
Lots of players and managers from big teams have been donating large sums to charity too. For test kits, food, all sorts. Not just in this country but to their native countries as well.
I know plymouth argyle used the furlough (league 2) but will top up to 100% for everyone. Which is good considering theyve been skint for years. |

I don’t know a single person who doesn’t think (most) Premier League footballers aren’t overpaid.....some obscenely. Yet the minute a government minister is backed into a corner and calls them out the left lose their shit. This isn’t political discussion, it’s a ridiculous anti government agenda |

There is enough money in premiership football for players to take a 30% pay cut to help out non playing staff as well as lower league clubs.Snooker players are classed as self employed and whilst the top 40 in the one year rankings will hopefully be ok the guys from 41 to 128 could really struggle |

I think footballers get paid far too much for what they do, but that is not totally their fault. If someone gave me lots of money for what I do, I am not going to say no. As mentioned before a lot of footballers have already contributed financially durring the crises and have kept quite about it. I don't think footballers being badgered by the media is fair.
Besides, a lot of football clubs contract out catering and cleaning services to third party companies. It will be these companies that would have furlonged their staff, not necessarily the football club per say.  |

Why not furlough the players on £2500 per month and see how they like that!
Given that the players average over £2m a year each 30% seems pretty meagre. Of course there are others who should do the same, but it is no excuse not to take a pay cut when hundreds of non playing staff are going to struggle. |
