Shopping in China town is good place to shop cheaper than the stores. Then you've broadway in Bryant park you see some of the stars do snippets of the broadway shows. Some are free some a few bucks. |

Time is of essence here, how long does this take? We are literally trying to fit everything into two and a half days so anything taking longer than a few hours is going to be tough to squeeze in |

If time is important and you only have a little over two days then I would suggest serious planning. It takes longer to get around NYC than you would think.
Use the subway! I know a lot of people are afraid of it, and it isn't the cleanest place in the world, but it's the fastest and cheapest way of getting around. Look at the subway map in advance so you have an understanding out how it works (black dots are local stop, white dots are express stops. Local stops have trains less frequently. Check the website for work disturbances because I've heard there have been a lot of those lately).
If you're going to Brooklyn, hit up the Brooklyn Promenade in Brooklyn Heights. It's lovely on a nice summer day, and it's where most of the movie/famous pictures of Manhattan are taken.
Also go to the Brooklyn Ice cream factory on Fulton ferry landing pier in Brooklyn. It's really good, creamy ice cream and the location is lovely. The river cafe nearby does amazing food, with beautiful views, although it's pretty expensive.
There's a lot to do in Brooklyn if you want to see the old ethnic neighborhoods. If you're hanging mostly around Manhattan, then I would avoid most of the tourist shit (like Times square) because it's tacky and not really anything special. You can head up to Harlem if you'd like, although I don't think there's much for tourists there. It's safe these days, but I would go before it gets dark if you're unfamiliar with the area. It takes a while to get there, though, so keep that in mind.
I'll try to think of other ideas. Have fun! |

This might not be suitable but last year we went to New York and we booked a 9 hour tour, it took us round all the main tourist attractions. There were people with kids on the tour too and it wasn't overbearing but we got to see and do almost everything we wanted to do in a short space of time then the rest of the time we had to do at our own pace. We are going back in September and have so much planned and booked already that we didn't have time to do last time - you'll never do it all in one trip so just prioritise what you want to see and do. |

"Hi, we are going to be there for a week next week....."
One world observatory is amazing...
Walk around if the weather is fine as the whole of manhatten isn't too large depending on little ones.
If you are there on Sunday pick up some bikes and cycle around Central Park... takes about 3 hours and you can get some great deals for bikes online while you are there |
