"Ugg they already insane figures we plan a trip to Niagara falls and prices going to go through the roof."
Same here. It’s the only commodity that seems to go up when demand falls. How long is the drive by the way? And could you not do it in a Chinese electric car - as I’m afraid that’s the future! |

"Is this because of the fuel pipeline being hacked or something else?"
Yes…. A ransomware hack by a Russian hack group demanding 20 million dollars… because the whole pipeline stopped flowing they have to make sure the entire pipeline from Texas to New Jersey is working section by section…. |

"Happening that quickly then ?
Yes Down south.damn Russians ! I remember the cold war between the UK and Russia back in the 70s "
I think it’s funny that these Russian hackers took such a hit that they had to put out a statement saying it was not government sponsored and that their actions were based on pure greed rather than politically motivated…. And that they are sorry for the disruption caused and will choose targets more carefully in future….. which is awfully nice of them!!!!
Anyway… we have been here before… remember the North Korean ransomware attack a few years ago that crippled half the world and was stopped by a Brit who accidentally found the kill switch for it….. |

"Good time to have a locking gas cap! Back in the 2014-2015 timeframe when fuel was an issue, there was a lot of siphoning of fuel going on."
But this is not a production issue….. it’s a distribution issue! |

"But your amazing health care is free."
Not quite… we pay for it via national insurance.. but our health bills are a lot less than yours….
You could argue that we get better value for money for what is spent…..
Also I don’t get why you rag on the nhs and socialised healthcare so much when Medicare and Medicaid are the largest socialised healthcare programs on the planet
Unless you are suggesting they get rid of them as well…. Oooh want to take a stab at VA services as well… that’s a horribly socialised program as well….
Damn… hijack… back to fuel
As was pointed out…. The problem this time is not production and supply… it’s distribution! So want to take another go at answering that rather than the last nonsensical post |

An unknown rogue collection of Russian hackers shut down a major pipeline...just a couple of months after a guy that 'guarantees an end to fossil fuels' gets into office? C'mon man!
When the Russians do it it's terrorism.... when he does it it's government policy. |

Very good observation, although I wouldn’t expect that fact to deter the crafty siphoning of fuel from those who are vulnerable. |

It’s not that it’s tough in comparison to your prices, but that rationale doesn’t make it easier for people who haven’t accounted for those higher prices. Imagine business owners with vehicles who are now paying out twice as much as what they accounted for. Those impacts have second and third order effects which result in cost cutting elsewhere, like lay offs, inability to get services, etc. Comparisons to economic norms in other countries in this instance are only argumentative and unnecessary.

"3.09 here a gallon.
That must be so tough.
Assuming that is dollars per US gallon we pay $7.30 here - most of which is tax." you have to bare in mind that in the UK we have been used to high fuel prices for years , it's our normal , for anyone faced with big increases outside of the norm is a worry and can have devastating knock on issues |

Prices on everything going up because transportation costs are increasing. It's not just fuel prices. |
