Do American woman really love the British accent?
Jump to: Newest in thread
My experience is yes. I once went on holiday to Jamaica, it was a part of a wedding party and I was single at the time. The hotel had a lot of American guests, and let’s just say, picking up ladies was like catching fish in a barrel. I was in my element, happy memories.

I think that might have been more to do with your cock than your accent... Could be wrong had lots ask about the Beatles when they heard me speak... Or should that be Speke after all that's JOHN Lennon now |

It depends where you go, when I was in Texas and New Orleans my accent got a bit of attention as it was a novelty (although far too many Texans thought it sounded Australian!)
In Boston, not so much. I suppose it depends on how many British tourists/expats in each area/city? |

Definitely some regional variation, but in Los Angeles/San Fran the accent proved irresistible. New York it had some effect, but I did get the sense there was less of a fetish for the accent. |

Can't imagine they do tbh , it's like all American accents sound like Forrest gump to me so guess all our Brit accents sound just as grating to them ? Let's face it there's nothing sexy about the British accents lol |

Remember the scene is Love Actually when Colin goes into the all American bar? I had exactly that when I was in Dallas. Alas the ladies concerned were as rough as hell and about 20 years older than me. I did not take advantage of the situation. |

MANY moons ago I went to Florida and New york for a period of time.
I'm American by birth, but raised in the UK.
I was only 16 at the time, played rugby, looked ALMOST as sexy as I do now! and I CLEANED up in Florida. not so much in NY.. they seemed a little more wise to the 'cockney charm'
It was a fun few months. |

You do realise that Scottish accents have significant variations too and some of them really aren't pleasant at all? |

I think different accents can be a turn on. Being a Yank over here has opened a few doors for me. I once met a British Friend at Caliente in Florida. She was a mid 30's English blonde with a sexy English accent. At a 'party' and few hotel meets that we attended, everyone wanted her to speak. Lets just say she was very popular with both sexes. Her accent was a great icebreaker.. |

I'm very fond of the Geordie as typified by the 1960s rock group 'The Animals'. To this day their lead singer Eric Burdon reveals his upbringing in Newcastle despite years living in the USA. I wonder what the Yanks think of RP, received pronouciation which can still be detected in the way David Attenborough and the Queen speak. I think it's ridiculously archaic and not a sign of class but unfair entitlement which we in the UK are still burdened with. |

I've been to USA a fair few times. The American ladies love an English accent. Shame I was with the kids and my ex wife as I could have been a very naughty lad a few times. They used to flirt really bad with me and didn't seem to care that I was with my wife and children. |

You do realize that's why I attached an 's' to "accent" to make "accents"? As in acknowledging there's several, as in more than one, Scottish accent(s)?
Weird, thought you'd catch that.
Also, I'll be the judge of which ones are pleasant or unpleasant. Thank you very much. That's all subjective. Different strokes for different folks. |

Having been born just across the water from Sean Connery in Fife, and able to order a vodka martini on the rocks, shaken not stirred, in the same tone of voice always goes down well in the company of Americans. Then throw in the the fact that it was actually St Andrews, the home of golf where I was born, and I get very well treated by every lovely American I've ever met. |

The Liverpool (scouse) accent still has a very out dated stigma attached to it thanks to Harry Enfield in this country.
But in the USA they love it. Especially in New York, Nashville and the deep south. The women over there love our accents. X |

It depends where you are in America. The tourist hot spots then no because they here it all of the time. In the countryside then some find it cute. |

A lot actually do
I’ve had several comments when on road trips
“With that accent you can have whatever you like”
“I could listen to you all day”
and similar stuff

Depends where you are.
More than 10 years ago, those in places like LA would adore it and ask you about it etc... I find that less common however. In smaller places or major cities that don’t receive many tourists, then possibly.
Some Americans however just can not absorb accents and may just ignore it.
I have found Brits speaking to other Brits cannot hear the British accent or they won’t care and start telling you they’re from the UK too etc.. |

Let's all be proud of our accents as they give us our identities. Having said that I have heard my recorded voice and I don't like because it sounds posh. I don't want to be thought of as posh. I don't feel I am and my job is certainly not. |

Yes, but why? When I taught English as a Foreign Language, my students were far more interested in the USA and its cultureb than the UK. We could do with adopting some of the American English spellings, and 'fall' is much more descriptive than 'autumn'. By the way, I have a soft spot for redhead ladies. |

"try being a geordie once visited florida on holiday and the looks i got when i forgot to tone down the accent haha"
I can relate to that ^^^
Do all American ladies think all British men sound like Rodger Moore? I remember being in Las Vegas strip joint acting as interpreter for my brother who was talking to a stripper.
The poor lady couldn't understand him, although my brother did sound like Oz from Auf Wiedersehen Pet.

100% agree it depends location. Big cities either have heard alot of English accents or residents have been to UK.
Get into remote areas and they love it. I used to spend time in Nervarda with the military and the locals there loved a English accent |

I thought the knickers were only for Tom Jones. I doubt the attraction was the accent and more about reflected glory and perceived wealth. |

The whole 'latin lover' theory is due to the catholic church.
If you want to succeed with a girl who is saving herself for marriage, you have to try really hard.
If you are in a more liberal society, where sex is not so hard to get, you don't have to try so hard.
Then imagine those two different cultures colliding in post war Europe, with cheap package holidays... |

"There is no such thing as a British accent. We have dozens of different accents, so we can be different just 30 miles apart. "
Depends on who is listening.... I have been told several times in the US that I sound like Adele despite having a Cheshire accent with a Manchester twang.
I also get told I sound Australian, asked if I'm Scottish and if I know the queen. To a lot of Americans we are just British.....
Same as to a lot of British they are just Americans despite their accent differences too! |

"There is no such thing as a British accent. We have dozens of different accents, so we can be different just 30 miles apart.
Definitely Adele
As long as you are talking about Adele Tomlinson from Oldham |

"When i was in texas 3 years ago i had a different women each night due to my british accent"
A second vote for Texas…..I got a date out of just going to Sam’s and trying some strawberry jam.
I initially said “No, thank you….I’m fine” to the young lady doing the promotion; her face lit up with a huge grin and I got the “Oh my God, you’re English!”. I ended up trying the sample, chatted with her for a couple of minutes, walked of with her number and went out a couple of nights later. |

"Apart from the deep south and the far north east they all sound the same to my ears , maybe the American people think us Brits all sound the same lol
They must certainly don’t to the experienced and trained ear.
"

"Three cheers for Mancunians. Could we tell the difference between an American and a Canadian, or between an Australian and a New Zealander speaking English? I'd struggle. "
The Canadian would be at great pains to tell you he wasn’t an American lol
And if he was one of those French Canadians he’d sound like the policeman out of allo allo lol |

In California yes they do! I spent about 6 weeks out there and heard "oh my gaaawd I looove your accent!" so many times.
I didn't visit anywhere else in the US though so can't say if that's the same in other areas. |
