We're coming to Belfast for a couple of days next month and neither of us have been. What is there to see? What's it like?
I grew up in a time when "the troubles" were always on the news and I have to ask the question is it safe? We're going to the SSE Arena and staying in the town centre. Is there anything to worry about?
I don't mean to use some cliché. I just wanted to check. |

Belfast is getting crazy expensive for hotels, especially at the weekends. Are yous going to visit tourist places or just a few days away to enjoy the good drinking and eating places lol x |

Yes it's as safe as any other UK city.
Cathedral Quarter is great for food and drink - try The Duke of York, Muriel's, The Dirty Onion, The Spaniard, etc...spoilt for choice really. Food-wise, Made in Belfast is good for modern casual dining with a local twist and if curry is your thing try Mumbai 27. They do a fabulous set lunch menu too.
On the tourist attractions side of things - Titanic, Crumlin Road Gaol, City Hall, St Anne's Cathedral, Ulster Museum, Botanic Gardens, Belfast Castle and Cavehill. And its always worth a visit to St. George's market.
It's a great wee city...friendly, lots to see and do and always plenty of craic.
Oh, and if you need a hangover breakfast try Granny Annie's |

Realistically it's as safe as any similar sized city, no where is 100% safe including Belfast but ask yourself if you'd wander around the tough estates of birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool etc ?
Don't let fear stop you from going just be sensible as it's chalk and cheese from how it was in the dark days.
Some great places in the city and if you get a chance to hire a car go to the coast for the causeway(I doubt you'll find time)
I would do the "black cab" tour to learn about the troubled times you mentioned as you'll learn 100x more than the news ever told you.
Some great people over there and I count myself lucky to visit regularly both now and during the old days. |

Hi,
We are over there quite often and found it to be just looking me being in any other city in the uk in fact probably a lot friendlier than other cities in the uk, nightlife is awesome, something for everyone and for the daytime would definitely recommend either one of the open top bus tours or one of the black taxi tours,
Can’t really comment on the fab fun side of things as we haven’t had any over there ,,,yet !! |
