"We’re going to the ultracon in Harrogate today lol. Suppose to be amazing. Especially after looking at videos on YouTube of it last year at Doncaster "
Yeah UltraCon is good. Rob the organiser puts a lot of work into it.
We'd have gone today but... things are a bit complicated with him and us lol.

Been to the Lincoln one twice and it was getting better. Went Preston the other weekend and despite a bigger venue etc wasn't impressed.
However, Off to 'For the love of Sci Fi' in Manchester beginning December and that looks epic! |

First year I went venue was way too small for numbers; minimal guests and traders etc and not a lot else. Sounds like potentially went backwards this year then but shouldn't expect massive things from the small local ones I think. |

Hiya, I try to make the odd comic con when I can, especially if their local to York/Hull - I usually take a stall and sell off some of my older collections, but would be fab to meet like-minded comic/fantasy/sf fans and swingers...
Take care, Matt |

"I used to. Now I can't afford it so I don't anymore.
~Mia
Some are only a fiver for entry. It's if you start spending on the stalls or on autographs that it can get expensive."
Even then still have travel down which is expensive enough in itself. And work and life gets in the way.
Unfortunately it's not something I indulge in anymore.

"How do you find a list of Cons? Keep seeing them too late to arrange time to go lol
Facebook search for a group called The Convention List.
Join it.
Keep an eye on the pinned post at the top."
Ah cool, thanks |

You're welcome.
I try to keep it updated as well as possible. I do miss the odd one or two but not many. It's a pretty full list. |

"There's this site too if that helps
http://www.comicconventions.co.uk/uk-comic-conventions-expos-and-popular-culture-shows-in-2017/"
There's hardly anything on that site
Example... weekend on 25/26 November, all it has listed is Reading.
It completely ignores Pudsey and Leigh on 25th, or Doncaster on 26th.
It is missing hundreds of cons I'm afraid. |

"Anyone ever been to SanDiego? "
Would love to do SanDiago one day. I’ve looked into a few times but tickets seem to sell fast as do hotel rooms nearby.
We go to London’s Film & Conic Con by showmasters every year. Met some amazing guests over the years to. |

"Anyone ever been to SanDiego?
Never been to America. I can't even begin to imagine how big SDCC is. I have visions of it being like a small city in size! "
Its my daughters absolute goal. Not even looked at it I reckon it'll be a fortune.
Went to Sheffield s couple of years ago that was really good. |

"Went to Blackpool one couple of years ago. Was great! "
Lol that con still gets talked about as one of the biggest tragedies on the convention scene in history.
You wouldn't see it as a regular con goer, but behind the scenes it was a disaster. The guests didn't get paid, the fire exits were padlocked shut, the organisers did a runner, etc etc. It was a catalogue of catastrophe! |

"Oooh spotted this thread.
Does anyone know if there's one around the Sussex area, can travel, Surrey Kent etc.
My son is dying to go to one "
Grays Comic-Con on 5th November if that's any good to you?
My geography of the south of England is a tad crap!
If you go on Fb and do a search for the group The Convention List and join it, check the pinned post at the top. |

I had a table up on the balcony, and the vibe throughout the day just got weirder and weirder for us. We knew something strange was happening but we didn't know what. |

It was just a strange day. Mutterings among the traders about things being off, and so on. |

"This is an awesome thread guys. Had no idea there were this many cons on besides the MCM / Thought Bubble / London Film & TV ones....
....or that there were so many fabsters into cons "
There are literally dozens and dozens of cons! They're hugely popular.

I regularly attend cons, often in cosplay.
I tend to go to the London Mcm cons as I have a large group of friends there and then attend smaller northwest cons. I've also been to some if the huge north American cons too. Alwas up for saying hi to fellow Fabers or rocking up to a club in cosplay! |

Hyper Japan (currently on this weekend in Central London) is also worth a shout.
It's been getting bigger & better over the last few years, although I admit I haven't been recently. Similarities with Comic Con - just less of an emphasis on comics/media, more on Japan/culture. Really similar crowds & cosplay, too, though |

Just didn't realise everywhere else was getting into the action!
Would you guys have any recommendations to visit?"
Yeah... any of ours lol
But ours are in Yorkshire, whereas you're London based, so a bit far.
LFCC is probably the best for you, so I hear. Enormous. Not that I've been. |

Nobody has mentioned LICAF yet, the Lakes International Comic Art Festival held in Kendal. Less about meeting actors who did a bit on the telly, but huge with the actual creators of comics, the artists and writers. It takes over the entire town for a weekend. You can find yourself buying a coffee and the next person in the queue is the guy who drew Watchmen, or talking to a group of women in a bar who turn out to be a feminist art collective from Finland... Last year had a lovely chat with the guy who has drawn the "Firkin the Cat" strip in Fiesta for thirty years or more |
