a friend's (now ex)husband was an escort, made more in a day than I did in a week.

Has got scam written all over it. No reason why you would need to pay up front. If the agency were legit they could just take their cut when you got paid.
Have heard of similar scams for movie extras and models where people paid up and turned out to be a scam. Never risk paying up front. |
