Just an idea that started in chat.
But post your thoughts on what you think about attending an Ice Rink social.
This would be a daytime social, so not requiring hotel room unless of course you wish to plan further activities.
This would be in the North West, so thinking about Blackburn Ice Arena (large) or Blackpool / Cleveleys (small).
No date planned yet until it's proven to be popular.
Ideal for those first timers who need verification in person - no pressure.

Just add your interest here.. that way it's a nice viewable list for all to see.
Perhaps we could pair skaters with non skaters of the opposite / same sex as required???
As this is still in the planning phase any suggestions for this Slippery Social are welcome.

There is als Altrincham Silver Blades in Manchester, Desside rink North Wales or a new rink at Widnes too so plenty of choice thats not to far away |

I'm thinking of a weekday towards the end of May or sometime in June, obviously before the school hols so the place should not be overun with kids whizzing around.
Blackburn runs 2-hourly public sessions, has loads of seating, ample parking and is only a 5 minute walk from the main train/bus station.
If this proves to be fun then more dates can be added in the future allowing others to join in for a laugh.
I don't see why there can't be a "Swingers on Ice" at other locations, starting locally and moving further outwards!!
Certainly a cool ice breaker for many first timers

Just bumping...
I think a date in June would be good, plenty of time to organise the meet and for those who work to arrange a day off.
Blackburn would be the first choice, easy access from the Train Station and has ample parking at the Rink.
So, Blackburn Ice Arena, June 2014

I have contacted the Ice Rink requesting their schedule for June 2014.
Their site is still displaying the Winter sessions which ended at the end of March this year.
The sessions are 2-hrs long and we will probably go for somewhere between 10am and 3pm to avoid the kids who will show us all up
As soon as I hear back I will post 2 possible dates and take it from there.
I'm away in Scotland for 4 days this weekend, so it might be next week before I get the chance to move forward with this.

Unfortunately not.
Real life got in the way and I had to simply put it all on hold.
I've certainly not forgotten but for now I don't have the time.
I'll re-find this thread in the not too distant future and revive it with a firm date |

Sorry this thread took a nose dive 
Work has kept me busy amongst other things.
Very short notice but I am thinking of checking out Blackburn Ice Arena this Friday, 22nd August.
Anyone interested? This can be just a preliminary visit to see how it goes and how busy it gets. It's obviously in the school holiday now so could be busy!
Just a social, drinks and a slide around the slippery stuff.
If it seems an alright place for a social then we can arrange something in school term time when it's going to be far quieter.
So Friday 22nd August, Afternoon session begins 2pm and ends 4:30pm
I won't be able to get there until 2:30pm and probably will have to be away at 4pm to beat traffic.
I'll be headed from Chorley direction and then back towards Preston, so I can offer a lift there from Chorley but only offer a lift back towards Preston.
If I get no response or it's deemed not enough time I will postpone this visit until after the school hols are over and then arrange as per original idea.
