Autism Diagnosis Referral

Hi all,

I live in the West Midlands, I'm 43, male, suspect I may have high masking autism.

I've recently filled in an AQ 15 form and dropped it back into the doctor's.

Just wondering if anyone knows how long I can expect to wait before hearing back from the doctors?

And if they give a green light on being referred for a diagnosis, how long should I expect to wait for that?

If anyone has any personal experience with that I would really appreciate your thoughts.

Thanks and all the best

I was diagnosed in my mid to late 30s with Asperger's (it all comes under the ASD umbrella now)

I found my diagnosis helped others to understand why I'm the way I am

I've known from a very young age that I was neuro diverse

Hi, I was diagnosed in my late 30s but my referral came through my cpn and psychiatrist and that did take some time. In fact I'm still waiting for the ADHD assessment and that was put in about 4 years ago.

I went privately for my 21 year old son's assessment as he needed it quickly to gain access to exam support at uni. Went to St Andrews Hospital in Northampton (it's a specialist mental health hospital and has been featured on a number of TV programmes).

Hi,

It doesn’t need to take as long as it does through the usual channels. Check out the Clinical Partners website, using the Right To Choose route. When you ask your doctor to make a referral, ask them to refer through the Clinical Partners website. There’s a link on the webpage for them to use. Then webpage tells you how long you should expect to wait. Not many GPs know about it though, so you have to tell them.

Hope this helps.
