 I didn't ask a question I replied to the op that those hotels you can walk to the rooms without the need for a key card.
Then you asked why and I will ask you again what is it you want to know why?

"all the IHG hotels do not need key cards to get into the room those include holiday inn express/ holiday inn/crown plaza and others under that brand."
The Holiday Inn Express at Walsall requires a key card and there is a sign at reception stating no unregistered guests |

 , oh ok all the one i have been don't must be the rough neighborhood  , thanks for the heads up one to avoid and will stick to the one i know lol. and i deffo get a lot of unregistered guests for a visit  |
