Just to give studland devotees a heads up, if you dont already know, dorset cc are imposing a clearway a along the ferry road as of 22nd may until november any cars parked along there will be towed away.check out the dcc website not sure if they had one last year, but people were parking and blocking emergency vehicles and buses, so they are having zero tolerance this year

Well that is a massive crock of shit. They're more pissed not to be making money out of the motorists. It takes into account the 3.6km of road between where the yellow lines end just past Knoll House to near the Shell Bar ferry kiosk. So let's says that the road usually has 2km of cars on both sides of the road and a parked car is 6m long - thats over 600 cars they will need to make provision for, or else there are going to be jams all along the causeway. As for towing tbem away- those trucks are going nowhere!!

Ridiculous behaviour from Dorset CC

Be interesting to know their plan when the car parks fill up (quickly no doubt) and those that have travelled for miles can’t park up. Traffic jams for miles as you say either exiting at Corfe junction end or queues for the ferry!

Crazy thing is, every time I’ve parked up near “the path”, it’s easily possible to get your vehicle well off the carriageway, so where’s the problem?

The problem is they’re not making money from people parking on the roadside Absolute madness, I’ve heard the carpark fills up by mid morning and the extortionate price... people who travel from far away are going to be p***ed off when they can’t park anywhere within 5 miles of the beach. I dare say they won’t be able to tow the amount of cars that will be parked up when people are fed up of being stuck in traffic or travelling from miles and can’t get a space and end up ditching it on the roadside, all it will take is 1 car and the rest will follow

Meerkats are only really around the centre of the nude section (by the path through to ferry road) and in the dunes, stay elsewhere and you won’t see or be bothered by them IMO

Totally agree, if you go in the dunes then they will be there but we stay on the main beach and have had no problems whatsoever

The parking is covered in the Swanage News website on 7 May titled Studland to get vehicle tow-away zone for summer. Reading this it says parking will still be allowed, ‘ Vehicles will still be able to park along Ferry Road where it is allowed, but where vehicles are parked illegally, they may be towed away.’.

So my take is that you have always been allowed to park in certain areas of Ferry Road and that will continue, but what was seen last year and was unprecedented as we all know where it became a single track road effectively and therefore gridlock will not be allowed - and quite rightly in my view! In normal times there has always been plenty of roadside parking without causing an issue - Lockdown/people on Furlough just saw pent up demand last summer.

We are going this Wednesday 19th. Just want to get this clear are we saying that parking near the bus stop is OK or not? We've always parked near the bus stop a few hundred meters from the ferry. That still OK or might we get towed?

I believe from other posts that there are designated parking areas along Ferry Road. I’m not local so can’t say for sure and have searched through Dorset County Council website but with no joy. So it will be what you see - it will have to be clearly signed and certainly in that first mile away from the Ferry the road is very wide and there is plenty of room off the side of the road.

Enjoy, keep out of the wind and report back!!

Debriefing on our mission guaranteed sir. I agree with you that where the road is wide allowing generous safe parking off the lines it's fair square good to go

I get the feeling as it is not on the council website that a few people are trying to make out you can’t park to put people off going so it is quieter

It gets even worse though as they are trying to stop boats anchoring in the bay as they want to protect the sea grass abs the seahorses ( which live in a small area)

The way I understand it, the parking rules are the same. The difference is if you break the rules, you get towed instead of just getting a PCN. So don't block emergency gates/road, and stay "outside" the road by not crossing the yellow line. Lots of cars violated those rules last year.

this has always been the rule but last year people were just doing dumb things like double parking etc so park sensibly and you'll be fine

Maybe see you there

Didn’t see any new parking signs on ferry road so think as long as you’re over the yellow lines you’ll be fine, I expect them to add signage for the summer though. Was some new “you might see naked people, behave yourselves” signs though so behave yourselves!

You can still park along the Ferry Road.

They will be towing cars that are blocking gates and entrances and those over the white lines.

Nothing much is changing parking wise.
