OK. This story is over 20 years old so things may have changed.
Myself and a friend were in Corfu and the Albanian coastline was visible and didn't look so far away. We heard that there was a ferry from Corfu town so we went to the office to ask some details.
The conversation went pretty much like this.
Hi we'd like to go to Albania.
Why? asked the agent.
Because it's there and we'd like to take a look, we replied.
There's nothing to look at, said the agent.
Surely there must be something we asked.
Yes, lots of men hanging around street corners looking threatening, he said.
Then we will find a bar and just get a drink, we said.
There are no bars, he replied.
So what is there in Albania? We asked.
Other than the risk that you might never be seen again, nothing.
He then waved us away and returned to his back room.
As I said it was many years ago but when anyone mentions Albania it always remind me of that conversation. |

Well luckily we wouldn’t be going alone as it’s a big well known music festival in Dhermi
We have heard it’s a very poor country so stuff is cheap
Told it’s a beautiful place so we looking forward to it |

The wife has been twice both times travelling from Corfu, she says it's obviously a poor country but the people were friendly enough.
They are working hard to improve there reputation to boost the tourism side of things.
You'll have a great time. X |

Albania is amazing, sat in Ksimil now and it is like the Caribbean, never seen a sea so blue. Saranda is 30 minutes away and it has great bars and restaurants, a fantastic promenade and a marina area. The Albanian people are warm and love visitors. It is relatively cheap. The apartments and condos with sea views costs between £250 - £350 a month (not including July, when they are much higher. 300 days of sunshine a year. In shorts and T-shirt April - November. |
