I dropped in to Cap D'Agde on my BMW for a couple of nights camping on a bike trip through Spain and France in the summer. Didn't book, just turned up. Great place to stay. I also rode the Pyrenees with my wife and we stayed in Sitges which has a naked beach. |

A good bike trip is to get the ferry from Portsmouth to Santander and then ride the long way back. You can then decide how soon you head north depending on the weather in France. |

Thanks for the advice. It does sound like a good trip. We will be doing our route planning over the next month or so so may be in touch with more questions |

Good tip about using Santander/Bilbao route. Expensive but gives you the chance to explore northern Spain, an area we intend to tour next year.
The ride through central northern France is dead boring as it's very flat with straight roads for hours on end. Once you get to Clermont-Ferrand things get a bit more interesting.
Take a look at the Haut-Languedoc park, especially round the Caroux-Espinouse.
Genuinely some of the best riding routes in Europe. Bike magazines regularly test bikes around there.
But you'll have fun wherever you end up....

Thanks for the advice. We are seriously considering taking a ferry to Santander and then make our way down to Cap and on the way back up spending some time at a favourite holiday destination not far from Bordeaux |

"Quite like the idea of a bike week in France , might head down on the trike" end of Aug is bike week - some amazing machines here. Mainly Harley & gold wing but quite a few trikes too!

You only have to have one available in case you stop on a motorway/main road where upon you have to don the said garment. I have always found the 'French' coppers more than fair, been stopped a few times too with a word of advice to take it steady. I and a few mates usually end up in France every year on the bikes, fantastic biking country. Might see if the lads want to explore Cap one day lol. |
