Cap D'Agde - Johnny Wokkers
Jump to: Newest in thread
One of us has been back in the UK for the last week, so tonight we went for a walk via Johnny Wokkers. We regret to bring you the news ( and apologies if this is posted elsewhere) that it appears to be closed for good. There is a for sale sign by the front door. The terrace and steps have been removed. The satellite dish and camera have also been removed. Sad end of an era. We not really know what else to say. |

That is so sad! Johnny did hint at this last year but we didn't want to believe it would happen! What a great couple! They will be missed. We so loved our early evening drinks there ( |

Well, we did say it appears to be shut. Apparently not so. We are meeting up with John and Jenny tomorrow, and will update then with why the annual opening is ' delayed' , and why the sale sign is there, and why the terrace has gone etc. Stand By! |

They did say they were enjoying their golf a couple of weeks ago but this is still a shock. No doubt Johnny has been recruited out of retirement by MI 6 to track down Jihadi John so the bar has to close as even Jennifer won't be able to manage on her own. Well Johnny was always one for a good rumour all part of the charm. |

Well today the piece of wood nailing up the side door was removed. No sight of the owners, no terrace, and still for sale. We had to settle for a drink on the new terrace at Le Mississippi. All very strange. |

This is a precis of a complicated problem. Background is that while JW owns the bar, the terrace is owned by an official organisation. Same people have control over Mississippi Terrace area, and onwards to the whole of Le Horizon. JW has to pay them rent every year for the terrace area, otherwise he loses it. They have insisted that JW demolished his entire terrace (which was completed today) before they may give permission for another version which has to be dismantled in October, and then may be again erected next year if they give further permission. The initial price is rather high. As of lunchtime today, JW did not have an opening date. Le Mississippi likewise have to remove their terrace in October. We will update again when more becomes apparent. However, an offer of two euro for the bar was turned down today lol. |

I wonder if the terrace generates enough revenue to be worth the bother ? Would the bar area by itself not provide enough cash ? It would save Jen the bother of running up and down the ramp as well.
I'll offer 3E if there is a bidding war starting. |

"In terms of crowd funding, we seem a bit short so far by about 274,993 Euro. And we need someone to run it. " well it may have been tongue in cheek, but a consortium wouldn't be out of the question! 30 people @ 10k is doable! Food for thought...... |

I hope this is a joke 10k Some one needs to get out more." based on a minimum 10k investment, 30 investors' could buy it based on sale price. Obviously, working capital is extra. Not an ideal amount of people, but it make 2/3 consider it? Very much depends on the accounts? |

Will be popping up there later. Will update then. If no news today from Le Fonctionaire who is deciding on the terrace, then there will be none before Monday as all of France shuts down for yet another bank holiday tomorrow (Mayday)! |

I have no control on the Facebook Page, which is run by a friendly German as far as can be told. Our social media skills do not stretch to such expertise as yet!
Anyway, having had another pleasant drink at Le Mississippi (olives and peanuts with the drinks, but no cheese this time), my anonymous source told me that JW got permission from Le Fonctionairre today for the new terrace. The anonymous source also told me that the time taken from telling an architect to start the work to installation was two weeks, if JW decided that they wanted such a construction. Meanwhile, the For Sale sign is still up, and the satellite dish has not been re-installed. However, with some certainty, we can say that JW will not be open in April 2015. Can't believe this matter has not appeared in any of the UK Election Manifestos. (After all plenty of them spend the summer recess and their expenses at the Cap)
There needs to be a campaign for a J_nny Wokkers Independence Party (Independent from Le Fonctionaire that is!!)
It's about the only thing we would turn out to vote for |

Yes they are open again, popped in for a drink last night. Work on the terrace also started yesterday, but so far it's only 4 upright posts, guess it will be done in a week or so... |

"Great news, will be practicing our beer to place mat movements, we all know how Jenny feels about not using beer mats lol"
You want to see what happens when you absent mindedly rip up a beer mat !! |

Will you not do this to us, opened the forum and nearly had a breakdown with JW closing. Glad its sorted out now, looking forward to propping up the bar when we arrive June 19th, might even get to sit on the new terrace, as long as Jenny and J_nny are still the ones pulling the pints life does not get better, except maybe doing with all the great folk we meet at JWs |

We are there now. New terrace, J_nny and Jen all looking great despite the incredible stress of the past twelve months. Lesser folk would have gone under; they are assured of our usual level of support now and in September! |
