Watch out for the police who patrol the dunes on quad bikes. I was out there in June and they were regular visitors. Not sure if they were having a peeve or just checking up on crime.
Yes they were there last year in October when we went, but just drove along on their quads...never saw any of them stop but suspect that they were just showing that they were there....suppose if your nice and cosy in one of the stone circles then they are not likely to bother you unless there is a bunch of guys all stood up wanking over you!!
Quad bike police are there to Protect people!! They are there as a deterrent against thieves and pervs we think. They never seem to stop just show their presence.

See more of the life guard in the pick up truck than you do the policia local.. but if you head to the right place there is always fun to be had ...as op says more to show a deterrent than stop you enjoying the al fresco fun..
